East of Everlook, should be called Ice Thistle Cave. The Ice Thistle Patriarch is where I got my horns from. The Matriarch barely drop any for me.

I got mine from inside the cave. One dropped from a Matriarch and one dropped from a Patriarch; both were inside the five point star cave area. You can't miss it on your minimap! ;-)

Not sure if that was a coincidence, but I grinded down so many Yeti before hand... it was only a matter of time.

haha, when I did this it took me 3 hours and well over 100 kills. I hope you don't have as bad luck as I did.

Got really lucky and finished this quest within an hour. Got one from a Patriarch and got one from a Matriarch.

Drop rate is very low, about accurate to wowheads reading (4.1%) HOWEVER, I did this at Level 56 as a shadow priest, it's really easy to kill them and fast. And good exp(340-400 non rested @ my level), so it's not a total waste of time. Even better if you are a skinner

They use skills like "Tendon Rip" Which reduce your speed by 70% & Frost breath which deals frost damage toward you.

Also, they have a skill called "Rushing Charge" But I've only seen Matriarchs use it.

They're all located at

67,42 (Ice thistle Hills / Ice Thistle Cave)

This is usually a 'farm' area pick up for Miners, as 1 or 2 thorium veins spawn inside the cave, Along with truesilver veins.So watch it.

Soloed as a 55 Combat Rogue. Overall drop rate was terrible, seemed like under 5%. The cave did help as there are many Patriarchs and Matriarchs there. Got the horns from both types of Yeti.

However this quest was an excellent grind, since the mobs are widely distributed except for a small bunch.

I killed the Matriarchs and Patriarchs for around 45 minutes until I realized they were just not dropping.

I did something that I have successfully done in the past when this happens, and the next two kills i got gave the two horns.

I recommend '''logging out and logging back in.''' It has worked around half the time for me before, and if you have been grinding these guys for around an hour, I think it's worth a shot.

Might be coincidence but I killed about 15 before going into that star shaped area of cave, got none. But within three kills in that area got both.

This is not an rly rly hard quest, the only thing they is hard here, is to get those horns. The Yeti's drop rate is only on 10% i think. I took my about 1 houer to finish it. If u can't find those Yeti's then go inside the Cave, there u will find alot.

LOL talk about a long grind.. took me about 20 mins .. I got the first one from a Matriarch and the second 7 kills later from a Patriarch .. I guess that's the pattern.. Matriarch then Patriarch..

In a party, the Pristine Yeti Horns will only drop for one member at a time. They are not group quest items.

Had to run the cave front to back, no drops. On the way out they had respawned, got the two horns within four kills.

Went through the cave about 4 times, with 1 dropping on the second clearing

EDIT" Typical, went back on to WoW and got the 2nd horn on the 4th kill :D

This quest has the sickest drop rate I've seen since I was trying to get bloodpetals in Un'Goro, It's more of a test of you patience than anything. I killed for an hour trying to get these horns, nothing, I killed through the star shaped room at least twice, still nothing, went into the room with the bridge-type thing, killed 2 yeti's got my two horns.

Drop rate was really nice for me. I killed around 10 at most, got both horns. Only thing was died, these guys are pretty tough, I was a 56 killing 58's (who act like warriors). Once I used expose armor it was a lot better though.

About 50% drop rate here. They dont drop from the ice thistle yeti's. =)

When I started this quest i got the first horn off my second drop. The second one took about three hours. In the end i gained about 40000xp killing yeti in that cave. Very easy kills as a 55 warrior.

I went into this quest as a lvl 60 holy spec Blood Elf Paladin. My first kill yeilded my first drop. It only took me 6 more kills to get my second drop . I followed coords, and quest script info and complete this quest in only 8 kills . To all of you with drop issuse i bid you GOOD LUCK!

Just did it then. Got first on first kill. Got second on 50+ kill. Gained at least 50k exp at 54. (Edit: With rest exp mind you.)

Drop rates:
Lv. 57 Ice Thistle Patriarch - 0 Horns / 10 Kills = 0%
Lv. 58 Ice Thistle Patriarch - 0 Horns / 7 Kills = 0%
Lv. 56 Ice Thistle Matriarch - 1 Horn / 6 Kills = 16.6%
Lv. 57 Ice Thistle Matriarch - 1 Horn/ 7 Kills = 14.2%

Overall:
Patriarchs = 0%
Matriarchs = 15.4% or about 1 horn per 6-7 kills.

This is just from my run through. The matriarchs appear to drop more often, but it may be even.

Drop rate is very very low for this quest.
The yeti's have an instant cast (which they can use even while stunned) that freezes you for 2 seconds,
but otherwise fairly easy to kill.

6750 Exp as of 2.3. It might be just me, but the droprate also seemed to have improved. I got the 2 horns in about 5 Patriarchs/Matriarchs.

Be warned, it can be quite a long grind, I cleared the cave at least 3 times before I got the horns.

Having said that it's a very easy grind with mobs almost always pull-able in ones.

For what this quest lacks in drops and drop rate it makes up for in XP. While it was annoying that I didn't get the horns until 100+ kills and an hour later, I gained about 1/4 level in the process on my 56 hunter. So while it is annoying to have such a bad drop rate, you sure do level a lot faster than expected =P

Just a funny note, i did this quest some minutes ago and got the horns on my first 2 kills = 100% droprate! =P
All i did was to kill 2 matriarchs on the way up to the cave.
So either you're very lucky, or you're stuck for an hour.

The drop rate on the Pristine Yeti Horn seems very random. The drop / loot system in World of Warcraft is decided upon world spawn. So most likely only a handful of the Ice Thistle Matriarch or Ice Thistle Patriarch will have the Pristine Yeti Horn in it's loot table. It all depends on luck really.

I suggest going in the cave at 67.5, 41.3 and killing the Ice Thistle Matriarch or Ice Thistle Patriarch around there. You will run into Ice Thistle Yeti often, even outside the cave, these do not drop the quest item you need.

Best of luck. And if you are a skinner, good amounts of Rugged Leather drops and for tailors Runecloth. Have fun, and help Winterspring in it's battle against the Yeti! Also, this quest line is extremely worth it, if you like scaring goblins.

Things to note:

Only one Pristine Yeti Horn drops at a time. No group sharing or anything.
Experienced earned is decent, if you are unlucky and keep grinding expect to get a few bubbles.
This quest is fun! Well it is in my opinion, if your drop rate is bad, go back later. Do some other quests for you don't burn yourself out.

I must say, this was a very irritating quest.. I killed about 30-40 of them before i got what i needed, and if that wasnt enough, this level 49 elite rarespawn dragon, called Azouras or something, killed me.. But i recommend you to do it, because its a lot of xp..

There is a cave wich is full of the Yeti's you need.

did this whole cave once without a single drop.
and on my 2nd time going in and i was sitting there drinking for mana and a small thorium vien just randomly spawns over my characters body hahaha i thought it was pretty funny
and also, did anyone else just seem to agro like everything? id attack one yeti and end up having to take on 3

I dont know if something was changed in patch 2.4 or if i was extremely lucky..... but i killed a total of 3 patriarchs, and 5 matriarchs, and got both horns and turned in within 12 minutes. around 66.7 , 42.0

Random note ~ if you're a frost mage, bypass this. They are highly resistant to frost. Sigh.

The XP reward for this quest is not worth it. The droprate is terrible, about 5% at most. Skip this is you are trying to get to Outlands quickly.

Yep, I tossed this quest after running the cave FOUR TIMES and not getting a single horn drop. It did account for three-quarters of my way through level 57 though, just killing yetis. But it just gets boring after a few hours of grinding and getting nothing. Blizzard really overdo it sometimes.

This quest was easy for me mainly because of luck, i killed 6 Ice Thistle Patriarchs outside the cave and got my first horn on the 3rd kill and my next on the 6th kill.The whole thing only took me about 5 minutes.

Very painful for me as a Frost Mage - Many resists from my spells.
The drop rate wasn't very good for me either, while it may have been improved.
Nice grinding though, and if in the cave suggested above, keep an eye out for roaming pats.

Must have killed atleast 50 before I had them drop one after the other. -_- Also as a 60 frost mage I had one mob resist 7 times in a row. Sigh.

you can kill them anywhere in Winterspring until the cows come home and they won't drop. Hit the cave like they say, they'll drop pretty quick....

this might just be luck, but I got both horns from two level 58 patriarchs, while the 56 and 57 didnt drop it in about 10 kills

so go for the 58s (thats probably why people had much better luck in the cave) first

The drop rate stinks, but it still gives good experience/money. Easy quest, easy experience =)
Also, for all the Frost Mages attempting this quest, or any quest in Winterspring for that matter, I just made a secondary action bar with Fireball, Scorch, and Fire Blast; works like a charm. You'll have to restore your mana after one or two mobs, but it's better than respecing. Just spam Fireball, Arcane Missiles, and finish with Fire Blast. Piece of cake.

Oh wow, I remember this quest from a loooong time ago. I will be missing this quest if it gets removed in Cataclysm. I remember wasting around 40 minutes just to get these horns in patch 1.12. Good times! :')

Now that I have what I need to cover the mechanical moving parts, I only need one other thing. Well, actually two. Two horns!

The ice thistle patriarchs and matriarchs have the largest horns, so of course, those are the ones I want. That type of yeti inhabits a cave to the southeast. There are plenty of them there; you shouldn't have any problem finding them.

Remember, I only want the best looking ones -- no beat up or broken horns, please!
