For something that's supposed to be "blue in color", the flame is awfully green. Sea green, at best.

Its worth picking up a few of the quests that are centered around the ruins of Ameth'Aran, ie http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=953 , http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=958 and http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=963.

It's on the far Southern edge of the ruins. (On all 6 of my chars that did it I expected it to be in the middle, and always forgot) q-.-p

The "Athrikus" he refers to is Athrikus Narassin (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=3660), a level 31 mob whom you do get to kill for http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=1143. However, there is no tie-in between that quest line and this one, other than the mention in the quest test.

When standing on the flame the coordinates are 42.4, 61.8.

42.37 and 61.87 ... the info regarding location as in the Moonkin caves is incorrect. You must be in the stone area where the Wailing Highbones are. Take the road til you see Twilight Vale pop up then go toward the Wailing Highbones, you'll find the flame easily.

I accidentally destroyed the item I was supposed to destroy, is there any way I can get another one after already beginning this quest?

Just a note ... was cleaning out my bags and discovered I still had this item, even though I completed the quest. I do recall that I did the quest in a group, so it seems that if someone else in party destroys it, you get credit, but are left with the item, in which case, it is safe to destroy it manually.

Exact location is (42.37,61.82). You'll be dealing with level 12 mobs able to really slow your movement speed for a few seconds so don't count so much on kiting. At level 17 my frost mage in questing gear was able to handle two of these at once but your mileage may vary.
