Even though you have to find the "Draconic for Dummies II" manual, it does NOT make you able to speak or understand draconic.

Some people are able to speak draconic, but that is a unique bug explained here:

Incase it's not obvious, this is the last quest in one of the quest chains for the Sceptor of Shifting sands, the item used to bang the gong to open the gates of AQ.

Just a useful tip for those of you doing this quest now, when you are taking a group through the harder parts(MC/Ony mostly MC since Ony is easily done with just one other person) to put the loot on FFA. If you leave it on group loot the chapter won't show up until the person who's loot it is loots the corpse. And at 80 don't really expect them to, save yourself the two weeks of waiting on a GM to restore it.

The comment about loot rules is true. The pages are part of the round robin loot table. However, there is also a time limit on the MC page, you are required to kill Ragnaros in under about two hours. I'm not sure what the precise time is, but a GM confirmed that there is indeed a timer on the page.

This time limit should not be a problem for a group of 5 level 80s, or even less. The only part about it that *!@#es me off is that there is absoloutely NO HINT of any time limit in the quest text or environment during your MC. You're apparently just supposed to randomly guess "Hey, I think the page might despawn if we take too long." Also, a GM will not give you the page, no matter how much you argue how unfair this is.

Also note that you need to be in a raid to complete this! did this early morning hours not knowing what the heck kept the items from dropping with the 25% drop rate and all. Mc/ony/bwl is kind of obvious you need to be in raid, tho the winterspring,blastedlands and assumingly undercity/stormwind you also need to be in raid

Few tips about the chapters, some are harder to get than others, depending on your class.

Chapter I drops only once each kill, so only one can loot it each kill. Make sure you have a patient party, he is rather hard to kill alone, he Mind Controls a player, best thing is to crowd control (CC) the Mind Controlled e.g sheep etc.

Chapter II that drops from Felguard Elites in Blasted Lands has a 5.2 % drop rate. When I got it I killed a Felguard Elite who was patrolling at 39,54 with two Manahounds, I think he has a higher chance to drop it.

Chapter IV: Undercity
On table near NPC Salazar Bloch, the book dealer, in mage quarter; 77,38

Chapter 7 is a little tricky. Its near Firemaw's flight path. Go through the first room, past the alcove on your left, and up the ramp. It's on the table in the corner on the landing.

Out of all of them Weavil was the one i was dreading the most because of his MC, but wow..

Was able to Solo Weavil as a 30/33/8 lock using a void and mostly deadly/furious pvp gear. The key is having fel synegry because for some reason when you got MCed and attacked, the void would heal for more than the damage you would do, no idea if it's a bug or what. just as long as you can't 1 shot the void it would always stay alive. After you come out of MC make sure to funnel to top off your void, cause if he's down from your dots he could die. Just keep goin like that till he dies and you get your chapter.

Dropped for me too from 10-man Onyxia. I got the page from Ragnaros two days later, so no change there either.

It also dropped for me in the 25-man version. It surprised me because I had forgotten about this quest until the raid leader started yelling at us to loot the corpse so it could be skinned.

Well, its official, this quest CANNOT be finished by a level 60.

I have the other 7 chapters, and just need the one from Onyxia. A lvl 60 cannot enter the instance anymore since its 80, and the item is BoP so no mailing it. I submitted a ticket, and the GM told me that because of the 'evolution of the game', that they will not mail the item to a lvl 60 so the quest can be finished, and that if I want to complete it, I should level to 80. Thats real good... level to 80 to finish a quest line for a level 60, so I can get the level 60 reward item...

Sometimes I really hate blizzard, they are ruining the game for those of us that want to enjoy the classic content.

If you abandon this quest, you do not lose the chapters that you already have. I just found this out because I deleted the magical book binding long ago to make bank space, so I abandoned the quest and picked it up again for a new one. This information may also be useful to someone who wishes to abandon the quest to make room for another quest in their quest log. Of course, should your interest in completing the quest be renewed in the future, you will have to pick it up again to continue looting chapters.

links finally added to show where chapter VII is, along with where Firemaw's patrol path is, but the leftmost side of the path (where it goes northwest for a short bit,) is my best estimate as to how far up the ramp Firemaw paths.

also, the map showing where the book is in the SW library might need some refinement.

and, while Doctor Weavil is, according to Wowhead, only in Winterspring, that's not where you kill him for Chapter I, instead, its Dustwallow Marsh you have to kill him in. yes he is there, on Alcaz Island. i figure Wowhead doesn't show his correct location because of a bug or something. while it is true that he spawns in Winterspring where Wowhead says, its only for a quest event, and i don't think you can kill him at there. after all, you are a bit busy with Number Two at that point.

as a side note, Doctor Weavil also drops his Diary, which lists the areas where Chapters 2 to 8 are - in a VERY hilarious way.

if i missed anything else, please say what it was, and i'll see what i can do to add it.

borrowed the map link Criyos gave below, to update the accuracy of the SW map link that shows where the fifth chapter is
added Chapter VII and Firemaw's locations in BWL, not that it matters much anymore, what with this quest having been removed from the game
updated the SW library links, added the other two demons that (used to) drop the 2nd chapter, and refined the list in a number of other small ways.

In pre-BC, you could have a very hard time finding where to get the items. However, you can find out where to go to get the first chapter by speaking to Narain, he will direct you to Dr. Weavil on Alcaz Island.

After you kill Weavil, he will drop a chapter and Diary of Weavil, where you can read where he dispersed the other chapters of the book.

Now that ony has been updated for 80's is this even completable now?
I was lead to believe the chapter was removed from the loot table now?

doing this quest at the moment and got a question
with classic, how did u know where do get all this chapters? does dr. weavil tell u when killed?
maybe silly question but i just started this quest and got the more simple chapters from uc winterspring and blasted lands

I can confirm that all chapters drop as of 24/4-2010.
I just collected all of them today, incl. Onyxia level 80.

The quest nor anything nearby gives no hint whatsoever about the whereabouts of any of the chapters. How is people suppused to complete this quest without wowhead or any 3rd party help site? It doesn't make any sense

I can confirm that everything in this quest is now soloable at lvl 80 (at least as a 10 man ICC geared hunter) except Ony and BWL.

Doctor Weavil can be solo'd easily (chapter I). I do Ragnaros every week - he's soloable, but I tend to bring my fiance (a shammy) with me to speed it up so Rag dies before he submerges (chapter VIII). Chapters II-V are extremely easy to get, though going into Undercity is a pain...

Just can't solo Ony now because she's lvl 80 raid boss (obvious). BWL I believe is still not soloable due to the first boss fight in there. However, I have 4 manned it (I recommend doing Nefarius's Corruption for the Red Shard so you only have to make 1 trip in there).

Ok i just killed Onyxia on 25 for this quest and there was no quest item. I was like wtf... went to get a drink and then after all have left the instance but me quest item showed in her loot. So you need to be patient!

Doctor Weavil is easily soloable by a hunter.

A simple BM spec nothing special and a Ferocity pet are just enought.

I used a trick with the pull i pulled him on the stairs my pet being on the parapet. MD to the pet and pet starts hitting the doctor. The hunter being downstairs can can run a little up to heal pet if needed without being in line of sight of the doctor.

In addition you can Volley on the parapet so that the voley can hit the doctor to speed up the kill.

It took less than a minute at the first pull.
The hardest part i see in this chain is the ONY 10 due to lack of groups on the server atm :) BWL and MC are doable by 1-2 ppl and with a 5 man group both of them take less than 1 hour to clear.

Had a very odd occurrence happen today when I turned this quest in. For some reason it gave me Onyxia's Lair (Level 60) even though I never did the level 60 version at all. Made me do a double take when it popped up.

If anyone is wondering, confirmed today this DOES INDEED AWARD Covil da Onyxia (Nível 60)

It awards it because you have to loot the quest item from Onyxia, since Onyxia 20 was made into Onyxia25 and Onyxia10, it's the same as killing her while it was still a level 60 encounter.

Fun little tip to get out of UC and SW if your hearth is down or you just don't wanna use it: Direbrew's Remote. Also helpful if you need to get to BWL and MC for those books.

By completing this quest you're also getting Onyxia's Lair (Level 60) and this is not a bug, as you can see at the page of this achievement The Only Prescription is one of the objectives (at least at time of writing this post).
Well, i dont think it is a proper way of obtaining it anyway, probably just one of the things Blizzard missed when they were revamping her into lvl 80 raid.

I had the same issue and a friend of mine had it as well... A gm gave my friend his draconic for dummy, yet I received a reply saying that the quest line is removed from game permanently! Can any1 link me the blue post that reasures us players about the quest being available until 4.0.3? I got some other draconic for dummies parts even with the gm saying that to me >_>

I have the first four chapters. I went to do MC with some guildies that were running it to get the piece off Ragnaros. Killed all the bosses and Ragnaros and there was nothing on the boss. Is this because of going out of order or could Group Loot have caused this issue? I put in a ticket with Blizzard and I'm waiting on a response, if Group Loot cause the issue I'm asking for it to be sent to me because it seems pretty dumb to have to go through it again because of something like that. I think I got the Undercity one before I got one of the previous 3 so it doesn't make sense that going out of order would mess it up.

I was planning to go Onyxia for one of the chapters, and I asked a GM about it. His reply was somewhat surprising, since I didnt think this questchain would get broken until cataclysm. Now it seems its getting broken tomorrow(EU realms).

Currently the item is available. With patch coming in on wednesday's maintenance is will be removed and will not under any circumstances be available from that moment on.

So, according to this GM, this is the last day(16th of November) to complete this chain.

Draconic for Dummies - Chapter VI that is last drop from Onyxia (16th of november) because it is removed patch 4.03 but i complete me quest on (17th of november) and I was awarded the feat of strength Onyxia's Lair (Level 60)..

Hey guys. I read the post by 'hellomynameis' and I was very alarmed as I have yet to complete this quest for the soon to be scepter FOS.

Good news. Yesterday on the 18th of November, I put together a patchwork pug to kill Ony10 even though I assumed the Draconic Dummies volume wouldn't drop. Sure enough, Ony goes down, I distribute the loot and get ready to hearth when I notice her corpse has started to sparkle. Lo and behold, the volume!

So, it seems you still have a week or two to complete this part of the chain. Rejoice!

Now, onto those damned elementium ingots........

11/04/2010 Blue post concerning this issue.

Edit: 11/21/10 7:25 p.m. CST- Looted Draconic for Dummies - Chapter VI off Onyxia about an hour ago. On first inspection it was not there, but after loot master had handed out the first piece of loot I looked again and it was there.

Furthermore, after turning this in to Narain Soothfancy he gave me the follow-up quest: The Good News and the Bad News.

One observation: On the PTR (4.0.3) Narain Soothfancy is now in a camp in central Gadgetazan. I copied my toon over with the quest in my log but when I opened my quest log this (The Only Prescription) was the only quest no longer there. The chapters were all still in my bag but no quest and it was no longer ascertainable from Narain.

Get it done before the xpac!

As November 19 this item bugs and don't drop from Onyxia.I asked a GM and got it recovered via mail.

As of patch 4.0.3a, this quest seems to no longer be in my log. I still have the book binding as well as the Chapters I have already acquired, but I don't believe this quest nor any of the AQ Opening quesline is obtainable any longer. :\
