You are able to get this quest when you got 40 cooking skill.

if you not have cooking skill at all, can you only buy Mild Spices and Simple Flour ( turn grey at 40 skill )

Simple Flour are you able to buy from Cooking vendors

Mild Spices is from Cooking Vendors / Trade Vendors

If you're like me and your main is an Alliance character and you're thinking you'll roll a Horde toon just to get this recipe, then you're in for a long haul.

For starters, you have to level your Horde character to level 15 just to be able to accept the quest. However, the dig rats are surrounded by level 21-22 Alliance mobs, so after accepting the quest, you're THEN going to have to level another 5 levels just to complete the quest.

That's a pretty heavy commitment just to get a recipe that you're never going to use. Sure, you'll be closer to having all the cooking recipes in the game, but is it worth it?

You do need to be 15, to get the quest, but you don't have to level more just to get the dig rats. You don't need the quest to kill them. You can simply kill them, loot them, and put them in the neutral AH from you alliance character. It's still a small pain.

I don't think it is worth the trouble. The rats are surrounded by lots of mobs that love to run for help thereby disturbing your peaceful rat-gathering. Finally, the recipe will only restore HP -- there is no +stamina + spirit bonus. Not worth the effort in my opinion.

The best way to complete this quest? Don't bother picking it up for your first/current character. Get the dig rats while doing the quests for Gann in the lower Barrens, in your high teens/early 20s. Stick them in your bank. Then send them to your next alt when you get it to level 15. Seriously, that's the only way I've found this quest worth doing.

I went back to do this quest as a lvl 70 in order to get the 100 cooking recipe achievement. The quest begins and ends with Grub at 55, 31 east of the Crossroads. You kill and loot the Dig Rats in the southern Barrens around 47, 84. Enjoy!

Does NOT give credit towards the Kalimdor quest achievements.

Of course, it does give you a cooking recipie, so it's not a total waste of time.

This quest requires 15 cooking skill. I just stood in front of the quest giver with some flour and spices from the vendor next to him and levelled up my skill making bread (quite amusing for a mage that was). The yellow exclamation mark popped up as soon as I hit 15 skill.

Just to tell you guys, this does not work with Trial Accounts. I leveled a toon to 15 on a trial account to try to get it to my Ally main and was greatly disappointed when I couldn't put it on the AH.
Just some info for those who thought trial accounts would work.

You can collect the rats before accepting the quest, if you forgot to pick the quest up.

I'm lvl 80, i have 425 skill in cooking and that quest doesn't show up, does it have any other requirement?

If you're a high level character, make sure you have selected "Low Level Quests" on your tracking menu, or you won't see the yellow exclamation mark even when it pops up.

I found the quest discription pretty funny, espically the
"You can't call yourself a seasoned adventurer until you've spent some time killing rats! Haw!"

Old World of Warcraft ads had the slogan "No I'd rather be killing rats."

Useless knowledge ftw.

Hmm. I wonder if the quest has been removed? Level 80, 450 cooking. Was in the Barrens doing some quests for rep, thought I'd grab this one. I did not already know the recipe.
Perhaps now that it's purchasable the quest is no longer available. I don't recall from the patch notes.

4.0.3a, Level 31 Tauren just levelled cooking to lvl50 and Journeyman but Grub has no quest to offer. If someone completes it he offers the bop version of the recipe, which he does not have for me. I did this on a lvl 23 toon yesterday so not sure what the issue is.

Either the quest was completed but the bop version is not offered correctly or it has not been done and not showing even with the correct cooking skill.

Edit: Also tried today (26.11.10) on a new Death Knight lvl 58, cooking skills 81, never been the Barrens before. Grub does not offer the quest.

Funny bit of trivia: This is the quest on display on the Hero's Call Board for the Horde if you look closely at some of the little papers posted on it.
One looks to have the same three rewards this quest has.

Recipe is STILL available, even though this quest is now obsolete.

Using this macro, I got my (Ratoupeira Cevado) after 5 kills, cooked it over my cooking fire, and finally completed (Cozinhando com arte).

The dinner was less than tasty, but the victory was so,so sweet!

Seems those filthy dwarves at Bael Modan are overrun with everyone's favorite feast. Now head on down south to Bael Modan and bring me back some dig rats.
