Horde and alliance can do it, it's a class quest for Warlocks.

I personally chose the trinket. Both the robe and the scythe are really good for the level (and the scythe looks incredibly cool), but they can be replaced pretty quickly. The trinket is unique and very useful, if only situationally. It won't have an immediate impact on your warlock, but it pays off in the long run, IMO.

Exactly. Later on towards end-game the trinket will still retain some marginal value as it will save you a soul shard and lots of mana. It's nice to have, but not a big deal.

It helps when grinding or with repeated boss attempts... or in the middle of a boss battle and your pet goes down, but you need more dps - or another off-tank for adds. Lots of neat little uses, but nothing major. Still through time it will hold it's value longer than either the scythe or robes.

The only reason not to take the shard is if you are levelling very quickly and just want something to replace your staff/robe for the moment.

Basically the choice is Abyssal Shard, Large brilliant shard, or large brilliant shard. (if your an enchanter).

This is the best of the three rewards. The staff is nice but I got in on my first Warlock for looks. It can be easily replaced. The shard is nice but I would never take it because the cast is not instant and that is why I would need a VWer without shard or mana cost, because I would need it NOW. This is the best choice. Sure, you can replace it down the road but it will last longer.

My lock is only 58 and I am loving the staff, not to say that the shard isn't great. Yes, the staff can be replaced, but there are only a few blue staffs that are better.

Taking the scythe is the best option , because with new itemization +8hit results in more than 1% hit for level up and thus the staff is much better than the robe.

As far as the trinket is concrerned , you can easily get a +23dmg trinket (Royal Seal of Edre'Thalas or something) at 54 (through the DM-book return quest) if you have someone to open the DM north entrance for you. Also , you will sooner or later get the Eye of the Beast (16spell crit rating) which is very good too. All these do not consider TBC items which will probably be even better. Thus , the trinket is useless if you ask me.

Finally , upon completion of the quest , Impsy is going to have a go on Nibsy... :D

With the Burning Crusade only a week ago, I will say that the Trinket here is the best quest reward choice.

Yes the Robe and Staff are nice... BUT you will replace them very soon. The Trinket, while you may not use it right away, very well might be very useful someday, even at level 70!

An example, in the Demonology tree there is a spec type that is dependent on summoning your Voidwalker and then sacrificing him to get major regen back for 30 minutes. What if Blizzard decided to make this spec really awesome someday? You'll be glad you still have this trinket that has it situational uses instead of a Robe or Staff that you vendored when you got to level 59.

And the trinket might have some other interesting uses here and there, yes even at level 70.

ok, i have a warlock, and im just wondering if you could use the trinket to get a new soulshard when you jumped on a flyer? summon a VW using it, fly from IF to SW, would you get a soul shard like normal or not?

I took the shard. At level 53 I got a robe with less stamina but nearly twice as much spell damage. I like my previous warlock quest shadow damage offhand. Offhands and 1hs open up a lot more possibilities than staves do. So I didn't really see the staff as a valid option for me. The trinket however...I can pop that on before I go farming or whatever, summon a free voidwalker, and swap back to a damage trinket. Seems to me like that will be useful forever, so thats why I made the choice I did.

I took the staff. To this day it sits in my bank, and sometimes I parade around Stormwind carrying it. Put Firey Enchant on it and nobody will cross your path with a high-and-mighty additude: they know where they stand. :)

The Abyss Shard is useless if you're a Demonology warlock, since you'll be using your Felguard anyhow.

I think the robe is a better choice, I mean how hard is it to get a shard and summon a vw, if you are out of mana you can just hit life tap once and have enough to summon one. I don't see the usefulness people hype this trinket up to having, but that's just me. I have not seen a 70 lock use or equip this trinket once, but the robe/staff will help you get that last stretch of leveling done before you get geared in outlands. Just my 2 cents.

Actually, the trinket is rather usefull in Arena/PvP.
Let's say you have a VW (not summoned with the trinket ) already now.
You go low on HP - Now you sacrifice your current VW.
Now, your sacrifice suddently wears off a few seconds, "Oh snap!".

Now, as you have the trinket, you'll be wise and fear your enemy.
While he's running some distance off you, you perhaps have time to Summon your VW with the trinket. Tadah.
Now, if your VW won't finish him off yet, just sacrifice, and finish him.
If he's/she's not dead yet, you seriously need some skill -.-

..And, this item just lasts forever :)

that trinket is bollocks for anyone of moderate common sense.

firstly, really, how hard is a soul shard to get, anyway? and secondly, why on earth would you sacrifice some of the insane +damage or +stat trinkets so you can save a few hundred mana on a voidwalker? :o

the staff, while looking cool as poop, has pretty crappy stats as well for the level. the offhand you get for a SM quest & the dagger from the boss in library is a better combo of stats than that statff.

I vote Yay for the robe.

The real strength of the trinket(and the reason I'm going back at 70 to go get it), is basically for DS warlocks, particularly DS/S+F warlocks.

When you're grinding(something everyone does no matter how far your guild has progessed raiding). If you use DS, you pretty much sac the voidwalker for the health regen. Without this trinket, even if you never die, you're looking at a soulshard every half hour just to keep your DS buff up to date.

With this trinket, every half hour(coincidentally both the duration of the DS buff and the cooldown on this trinket), you can give yourself fel stamina for free.

With certain specs, soulshard usage is a pretty big issue, and this trinket makes things a lot easier.

the trinket is really not the obvious choice here. I'm not saying it's poor but you are clearly overestimating it because of it's uniqueness.

it is very rare to be out of mana or out of soul shards if you play like you're supposed to.
yes if you play warlock but for some reason is not affliction then there are situations where you could find good use for it but it is not the obvious choice.

I would have personally gained most from choosing the chest but since the staff looks cool (and I already kill everything too easy) - I took the staff. it's an addition to my collection of cool stuff that I will run around with when I'm 70, tiered of farming and have no raid.

just as you have to watch out for being blinded by the item rarity-color, you have to think before you choose.

The uniqueness of the trinket is pretty much its only selling point, unless you're a demonology warlock who likes to sacrifice Voidwalkers for grinding. I took the robe, and have never regretted it since it lasted me well into 60 when I finally replaced it with a robe from Dire Maul.

Since this is a levelling quest, take the item that benefits you most at the time. That simple.

It may be the best and the most durable, but what's the problem with missing a Soul Shard and an amount of mana that'll be back in no-time (life tap and Drain life in the next fight?). And when you don't use the Voidwalker, this thing is just useless. I for one, as a destruction Warlock, prefer to be hit (backlash doesn't proc like Nightfall, on damage done by a spell..?) so I use a (sacrificed) Imp, maybe a succubus or a Felhunter. And although it is true this is replaced when you go to Outland, by;

there still remains a use for this, as well as the staff, which I would disreccommend due to the fact that Hypnotic Blade (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=7714) + Orb of Dar'Orahil (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=15108) gives you only -1 Shadow Spell DMG, and although you do miss 16 Sta (Stat #1 for locks indeed) and spell hit rating, I think the Robe is a better choice due to the fact that it's better than;

Get the abyss shard because the armor will soon be replaced and the weapon isn't good cause your a warlock your not meant for damage of a staff but for stats, also the illusionary staff ,found in scarlet manor library, has better stats

imo, the trinket is going to be the one thats way more worth it. just imagine, you die, and rez. put this thing in your trinket slot and let it cool up as your bandadging >> rebuffing. summon a VW, and dark pact him dry. free mana.

my advice is to try get a drakestone of shadow wraith from Sunken temple and pair it off with a main hand weapon with + spell dam , thou this combination is hard to get you end up with about 20-30+ more shadow damage depending on the main hand weapon. by doing this u don;t need the staff. eg http://www.wowhead.com/?item=7714.

the robe is relpaced by either by T 0.5 or if u have BC replaced by Whispering Tunic http://www.wowhead.com/?item=29926.

the shard however can be useful at any stage in the game because you can only get it once, i has uses but it is used in rare events of warlocks not having soul shards and by lvl 70 you really done use the Vw anymore being replaced by the Felguard or the Imp.

i choose the robe myself because i got the drakestone/main hand weapon combination. All of these items become useless at some stage so just choose one that looks cool or one that gives the most upgrade

The trinket is definitely the best choice for this quest reward. The instant summon is great for when a pet goes down in battle, as warlocks cannot withstand aggro for long periods of time. Also, by the time I completed this quest, I had a better weapon (Soulkeeper-lvl49 blue item), and the robes will be replaced in time, as the trinket cannot be. Remember folks, you can only do this quest once, as it is not repeatable, so it is best to choose something that will retain it's usefulness for the rest of the game.

Went back to get the trinket as a 70 Demonology Warlock. The ability to summon my voidwalker and sacrifice for the damage shield when I'm low on health and mana is awesome (even if only infrequently used).

Oh, and Fel Domination works with this trinket....0.5 sec cast Voidwalker = sexy.

Soloed the quest very easily. Just sent my felguard into each group, Seed of Corruption on each elite, then mopped up. Took about 25 minutes (I got completely lost and wound up wandering around for some time).

For those unfamiliar with ST, you want to go up to the top floor (Hall of the Cursed) and clear around the circle. Go down each set of stairs (3 on right side, 3 on left side) and kill the troll mini boss. Each set of stairs on the left has a platform with a pack of mobs and 2 exits. One exit will bring you back to the first floor, the other to the mini boss. If you find yourself going down more than a few stairs you are going the wrong way. Hope this description helps the people who haven't been to ST in a long time (or ever).

The usefulness of the Shard at 70 is so marginal as to be laughable. Honestly, how often will you a) find yourself in need of a VW b) not have a shard AND c) not have enough mana? If the answer to these questions are "Yes, yes, and frequently!" then you are doing something very, very wrong.

IMO, you'd get more usage out of using the staff or the robe for 8 levels. That equals out to approximately a day or so of gameplay, which outweighs the usage one would get from the Shard.

Why would you need the shard anyway? At this level, I didn't use my Voidwalker. It was my succubus all the time. As for the chest, I prefer sets, so that I look right, rather than wearing a bit of Shadoweave (purple) and then some green robe. So in the end, I'll choose the staff. It may be replaceable, but I don't usually spend money.

1. Cast Fel Domination and use the Abysss Shard to summon the Voidwalker.
2. Choose to sacrifice the VW and run away (to fight another day) and/or choose to let VW attempt to tank (giving you time to use pots and/or bandages).

I am sure there are other senarios :).

Since this is a levelling quest, take the item that benefits you most at the time. That simple.

Each quest reward has advantages: Who am I to say that choosing the staff or the robe is "wrong"? But, I see at least a few people, already with level 70 Warlocks, who are posting here (and other sties) and are now saying they are going for the Abyssal Shard. True, these are rewards for a levelling quest, but the Abyssal Shard lasts forever (including times when you willl no longer be levelling ).

This is the only Warlock quest that gives money and exp for a reward and i believe this is for both the horde and the alliance and when i did the quest i choose the chest but after i regret not taking the trinket.

the trinket is even good at 70 for a 21/40 demodestroyer lock for farming.. use the trinket summon the void guy, sacrifice it. the sacrifice buff will remain 30minutes on you just like trinket's cooldown.

If you ask me, every single warlock who has posted here saying how the trinket is still useful at lvl 70 needs to adjust their playstyle a little. You should ALWAYS have as many shards as the situation you are in requires, be it a raid or some PvP. If you don't, go get some. One extra voidwalker won't help with those.

And in regards to solo farming. If you are farming mobs that are green or above, you can get a shard in an instant. If you don't know how to kill a single mob without a pet or with an imp out then you need to do some learning. If you are farming low-level content and can't get any more shards you are extremely poorly prepared and one voidwalker won't help for long.

The Shard may be usable at lvl70, but i personally never use it. I always have full 28 slot Soul Shard bag, I can always drink for mana, and I am surely not wearing this trinket in combat (now that u can't change items in combat it is useless). But u will change staff or robe after few days, maybe even hours of playing, and this trinket is timeless, eventually u will use it, maybe even at lvl80 (when WotLK comes), so I picked this as the reward.

As said more than enough times the Shard IS unique, BUT I honestly cannot find any good uses for it in endgame.

PvE raiding
1. If you are smart enought to get into a guild that actually raids 25-mans then you would know that wasting a dps trinket spot with that kinda crap is not wise. To use it you'd had to wear it all the time because you cannot change trinkets in combat
2. Using a VW in general at raids is very idiotic. It cant even hold aggro from healers and sacrificing it gives you a crappy buff
3. Who comes to raids whitout enough shards and most of all who the feck runs out of shards while raiding when there are nothing but mobs in the instance.

PvE Grinding
1. First of all, who the hell uses a VW?! If you are a demonology warlock you can use fellguard to keep aggro, Then again if you are an affliciton 'lock voidwalker won't be able to keep aggro and in case of destruction you will either sacrifice imp or if you dont have DS (demonic Sacrifice) Your VW won't be able to keep aggro from you.
2. Same as in PvE Grinding you shouldnt rally run out of shards nor mana and better trinkets are waaay easy to get to waste a spot on this.

PvP
1. The only function of VW in PvP is sacrifice which sounds pretty good, but then again wasting a perfectly good trinket spot for this is idiotic atleast.

I totally agree with Masse. I used to be affliction and my voidwalker couldnt hold !@#$. I would curse of agony a mob AFTER my voidwalker torments and what happens?!?? I pull aggro , and I have NO problem keeping soulshards unlike someother people. I'm debating on what to choose though, staff or robe. I am using Hypnotic Blade (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=7714) + Orb of Dar'Orahil (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=15108) and my chest is thttp://www.wowhead.com/?item=10021. Thinking the Soul harvester because of the spellhit, which is rare at this lvl and the spell damage.

While it really doesn't have too much of an endgame use, I used it right up until 70. Actually, I used it until I got my scryers trinkets n the sort. It's unique, and incredibly handy for most any spec I would imagine. Even with my other trinkets, I still find it to be useful when running low level instances where I can't exactly generate soul shards. With a few points in demonoloy but mostly being affliction, Fel Domination + this thing are the shizzle. Why take items that are going to be upgraded shortly anyways, go with the trinket.

I use the Spire of Hakkar and the Enchanted Gold Bloodrobe, and I don't honestly see a huge point to upgrading either of them pre-Outlands. They're not brilliant, but I'm not a twink either, so I honestly don't care that much. It's all well and good to say you'll never run out of shards, never need a VW for anything, but hey, it's a free shard for me while I sit there trolling the AH or the forums. =P I call that infinitely more useful than a robe or staff I don't particularly need.

Getting together a Paladin, a Warrior, and/or a Shaman to help you with this quest might be pretty easy. Those classes have a quest at around the same level that also need the same feathers from the same trolls.

So much for class quests being unique or exclusive...

whats the whole fight about?, lvled a lock all the way 2 70 , 2 times and i sort of never used my void, never saw use of it compared 2 either draintanking or scrificing my pets ^^

Finally did this as a 66 demonology warlock. Completely soloable, though there's a group or two of mobs in the hallway that cut it real close; had to use soulstone once. The voidwalker trinket doesn't feel like a must, but it's uniqueness makes it something to have any if I ever really want to re-spec back to affliction.

This quest was easy, once I figured out how to do it. Lvl 61 demonology lock with felguard and lots of shards. Died several times before I got the scoop. What you do, don't bother with the stairs on the right or left, go to the doorways right in front of you when you first enter the instance. You'll fight a pack of two at first, then wait for the four mobs that roam. Hit them. After they're finished, go up (I believe it was three flights of stairs) until you run into the third set of mobs. After you kill them, the one you want is on that same level, don't go up the stairs, but rather turn the corner and you'll go up a slight incline, the mob with the feather is there. Kill him, get your feather then do the same for the other doorway back down by the entrance to the instance. After killing the second mob with the feather, leave the instance and reset it. The mobs move places. I got all six feathers this way. Towards the end, I had to reset the instance three times without killing anything because I used my eye of Kilrogg to see which mob was where. Just keep doing that until you have all six feathers. Those two are the easiest of the four directions you can take (two doorways and two stairways). Good luck.

First off, Trolls of a Feather isn't a class specific quest. To my knowledge all classes can do it. Both my mage and my shaman have done it and now my lock is getting ready to go to it. That being said the rewards are class specific. On my shammy I got a nifty little mana spring totem, don't member what i got on my mage it's been along time.

Second I don't use my voidwalker unless I'm fighting a red or a red leet. So that shard not all that useful for me.

In conclusion IMP FTW! lol.

The instance was quite simple, got the feathers in a matter of minutes, picking the quest reward was actually harder than doing the instance... let's go through possibility's.

Robe:
Simply a no-no, it get replaced too fast with Outland content - high-end and above; most important, I don't think it's worth it compared to the other two items, in short- easily replaced.

Abyss Shard:
Very nice, BUT! It totally depends on your build;
If you are the Demonology specification , your will love and want this item, however if you are an Affliction/Destruction Warlock, you possibly won't have that much of a use for it, however, it's a unique trinket.
(And about the shards, I always have atleast 20+ shards in my bags when questing or doing grinding, and NEVER below 10, you shouldn't really have a "shard issue".) ])

Staff:
Not bad, the only problem is you can easily replace this when you start Outlands, and you most likely will never use it for real pvp'ing, since you can't use your awesome offhand items, and your (mostly underestimated) spellstone, which just rocks against all caster classes!

What did I choose?
I choose the staff, the trinket (as unique as it is) - has no realistic use, and the staff and robe WILL be replaced in Outland or even before then, but if you feel the trinket is worth it, and you think you will use it, then go ahead and get it.
(Plus the staff looks cool)

Personally, the +15 stamina trinket is much better than a weapon that is +16, and will get replaced. Besides the fact that if you actually fight with your staff, you shouldn't have rolled a lock.

you should remeber thought that if your voidwalkers going up the creek and you are in a sticky situation all you need do is sacrifice him when he is near low health, thus earning you a forcefield for 30 secs, more than long enough to resummon.

Sorted, i would still go for a staff as cool as that over 50 trinkets.

I would argue for the trinket simply because:

1- the staff will be replaced within 10 levels of finishing this quest - or you use a dagger/off-hand combo, you would loose some spell power or stats...
2- the robe is nice, but also will be replaced within 10 levels of this quest. Besides, if you have a good tailor that can make a Robe of Winter Night or something similar, get this instead and wait till outland for the quest rewards.

Since trinkets are the only thing that cannot be crafted and this one has a rather nice unique ability, I will opt for the trinket in most cases that it is offered, and here most definitely.

did this quest last night, got my arse handed to me LVL 57 demon warlock, got two feathers, vachon8449 directions are good, just need a little help. gonna get my son to go thru with his 55 warrior, that should do it.

...this may be just me... but the whole Shard vs. Staff vs. Robe debate is as pointless and trivial as the clicking vs. keybind debate...
I just finished this quest and am happy to say i'm going straight for the staff, simply cause i've always wanted it and it looks bloody awesome, nothing to do with its stats or what thing is better than the other. -shrug-

People take this game too seriously if you ask me...

With the advent of heirloom weapons and gear, and the maybe-sorta-useful-I-guess fencesitting about the trinket, the real question is now: what looks cooler?

The robe is a standard model but has a seriously badarse textural overlay seen nowhere else in the game, and gives off a faint feel of a sort of My First Deathbringer Robe.

Then there's the scythe, but while there are other scythe models in the game, this is the only one so far that I've seen where the blade curves over the top of the head rather than sitting on the back. (They're also polearms, so it's a moot point.)

uh... yeah... I just solod all these quests (Easy as a lv 74 demo lock), finally got the Abyss shard, and as soon as I try to use it I get an error.... "Missing component, soul-shard". So it seems the ONLY thing this trinket does is provide a vw with no mana requirement. The soul-shard is still required. In other words, completely useless. (tried after patch 3.2.2)

As of patch 3.2.2, the shard gives +15 stamina and allows you to summon your VW without using mana (presumably it still takes a Soul Shard)

I could see it being useful if you need to run quick interference while you regain mana with Drain Mana soloing; not sure about endgame.

Upon completion of the quest, Impsy gains a buff which makes him red and bigger. The following conversation takes place:

Niby the Almighty says: No! It can't be...
Impsy says: Pathetic fool! Now I will teach you the meaning of pain!
Niby the Almighty begs Impsy for forgiveness.
Impsy says: Prepare to meet your doom!
Impsy says: Uh oh...
Niby the Almighty says: Why you little!

At "Uh oh" Impsy shrinks back again and gets chased by Niby.

Impsy is actually casting a Pyroblast at Niby as he's saying this, but when his enrage wears off the Pyroblast is interrupted.

The trinket is useless, always was more or less (unless u have a free slot and need 15 stamina), the scythe is only for show, the robe is somewhat useful for a few levels (can get better in instances).

Ok. I'm curently trying to do the quest right now. And NONE of your squabling about the staff, robe, or trinket and what's the most useful and whatever level doesn't help in the least bit.

I'm not good at the whole screenshots and stuff. But I know what WOULD be useful is a map with a circled location of each of the trolls that drop the feathers.

I went through just recently and somehow didnt get all 6 feathers I'm hoping i just missed out on loot and that there isnt one hiding sumwhere.

Now to touch on the item subject. All of the items are basiclly null becaue at 58 counting that you have the burning crusade expansion. youre going to replace those REALLY fast. but theyre nice while you have them. I personally am going with the trinket and not because of the CD. the +15stam is pretty good especially since trinkets arent very easy to come by.
On a side note: the CD of the voidwalker is quite useful for pve occasioanly a small surprise for pvpers.
as for the ppl that talked about the usefulless at lvl 70 for the trinket...the only "usefull" thing about the trinket is the 15stam you dont find very many trinkets except the pvp trinkets that give that much stamina which is nice.

Molten-Wow version 3.3.5. - Don't bother with this POS quest. I went through sunken temple 5 times and the drop rate on the trolls is terribly low. Five passes through this lame dungeon is more then enough. The troll bosses Loro and Zolo still didn't drop the green voodoo feather. Ditch this sh*t!

Only the voodoo feathers from the trolls in the sunken temple will do. They go by the names Gasher, Mijan, Zolo, Hukku, Zul'lor, and Loro. Kill them. Kill them all.

This is no trivial task <name>, so I'll make it worth your while by giving you something of Niby's -- he probably doesn't need it anyhow.
