If the drop rate is around 50%, I must be very unlucky. I completed the Southsea Shakedown quest and only had ten hats to show for it. Twenty kills later, I'm sitting at thirteen total hats. I believe I've seen the hats drop off all four types of mobs and definitely more than just the pirates. The drop rate seems slightly higher off of the actual Southsea Pirates in my case so far.

I have done this quest now on 5 different characters and the drop rate has been terrible every time. My mobinfo mod has the drop rate for all my characters combined at 19% so be prepared to kill and kill and kill for this quest

Remember with a 20%ish drop rate you are looking at about a hundred kills, give or take.

Kill evryone from those 4 mobs, because they all drops those hats so just remember that u wont get the hat everytime u kill someone, just be patient, and it wont hurt u to kill alot of them u still get the xp.

I was able to collect all the hats in combination with the Southsea Shakedown quest. After the 40, i think i had to kill about 15 more to get my final drops. The last 3 hats were the worst, but i leveled from all the grinding :D

This quest is a goddamn drag every time I do it, with this time being the worst at 1 hat for the past 20 kills.

Either they need to boost the drop rat eor halve the number of required hats.

I hate this stupid quest and I'll probably abandon it depending how the next 20 kills go.

Good thing about it is, the grind xp and the other quest's while doing it, just hang in there and it will be worth it!

The hats drop off of any Southsea mob. Pretty nasty drop rate though, 10-15%. Go to the cave at 68,41 and you should find their encampment. Their level 42-44 mobs

Just a quick note, i've completed the quest where you need to kill like 40 of these pirates, and i've only gotten 10 hats. So if you are a mana user like me, remember to take a whole lot of water with ya, cause you are gonna be farming the hats for a while! ;D

One suggestion is to find a friendly who wants to farm mageweave. The pirates drop it fairly often.

The Dock Workers seem to drop the hats more than the others.

After completing the pirate killing quest and grinding the other pirates in the Lost Rigger Cove, I ended up with 11 pirate hats, after +80 kills. Then I went to kill Dock Workers on the pirate ship, and only every fourth of them didn't drop hats. Hope this helps.

Just did this quest as a lvl 44 feral druid.
Killed the 40 mobs in the other quest, and ended up with 13 hats, then i went to kill Andre Firebeard, and him and his pack ALL dropped 1 hat, that left me with 3 hats left to farm, did'nt take very long ^^ :)

This quest counts for the Loremaster of Kalimdor achievement.

the southsea pirates have a 26% chance to drop free booters have a 25% chance to drop and swashbucklers and dock workers have a 22% chance to drop so id go after the free booters and pirates for the hats

So here's what's going to happen. You head down to Lost Rigger Cove and acquire a lot of pirate hats by whatever means. Do you think you can handle that?
