Unfortunately you are probably going to replace any of these rewards fairly quickly. Most rogues choose the Ebon Mask as it looks cool, and takes the longest to replace.

On my PvP rogue I took the boots for the equip (as we roam in 3-5 man rogue packs and damage isn't the be all and end all), but most people won't want that type of thing.

As a rogue fairly far into the endgame, I'd encourage all rogues to take the Whisperwalk Boots. The mask, while it looks cool, is quickly replaced. The cape can be replaced with the parachute cloak if you are hankering for that slow fall effect. But a good pair of +Stealth boots are hard to come by. Great for PvP, and even PvE when you need to sneak around places that you might not normally be able to. Think long term and get the boots. Put a pair of spurs on them and keep them in your bag. Never know when they will come in handy.

The ebon mask is a little harder to replace than most people think for a casual non-raiding rogue. The AP and crit on the ebon mask makes it beter than Eye of Rend and in reality it is almost as good as the old rank 10 head peice.

The ebon mask will last you until you hit rank 10, or start doing ZG.

Believe it or not, once in a great while you will find a blue that is better than an epic. I'm not going to say that is the case here, but try to be a little more open minded that epics aren't always best.

And whats with all this talk about "everyone should pick this one, the other two are worthless and will be replaced"? Anything you have at lvl 52 will be replaced. Maybe some people like the look of the hood. I know that I put alot of priority on my looks. If the stats are lower, who cares? I don't die any more than I do wearing the best gear. If you're just giving friendly advice then fine. But try not to make it sound like you are saying they are noobs if they don't choose the one you did.

The problem I have with the ebon mask is that it offers nothing unique, while the boots offer something that is otherwise unattainable until naxx (I think some stealth boots drop there). With the advent of the new pvp system and the beginner dungeon changes, the simple damage of the mask seems lackluster. In the end, I guess it just comes down to personal preference, as it should.

The best choice imho is either the boots or the cape. The cape is more of a novelty thing, throw it on when you're jumping down to MC because you're too lazy to run the right way. The boots however, are VERY effective in PvP, and won't be replaced (as far as the +stealth bonus) until the tier .5 boots or a drop in Naxx. I say go for the boots, great any time you need to be extra sneaky.

Honestly, I would personally never encourage anyone to get the boots or the mask, simply because for non engineers the cape is the only item in the game that reduces damage from falls, and even if you are an engineer it doesn't make you fall slower, it just makes you take less damage. The cape coupled with the passive ability rogues already have is a very large percentage of saved health, I believe nearly 20% damage reduction from falls. That being said it might seem more a novelty item but if you start paying attention i'd be willing to bet that you'll see a lot of times you die from fall damage, and with that cloak, you might not have that issue. Places such as AB are a good example, not to mention those of us that have a bit of explorer in us, its great for getting to areas that might be.. shall we say, unusually hard to reach without such items.

Get the cape, the cape doubles the distance you can fall without taking damage and cuts the damage you take from falling in half. Nightscape boots are just as good as the whisperwalk ones and ebon mask will suck a few levels later anyways.

Unless you're able to tank both bosses simultaneously, I suggest using Vanish to pull Morhphaz alone.

To Vanish pull:

(1) Distract Morphaz close to you as shown in the video (to single him out).

(2) When Hazzas is on the other side of the room, use your x/bow/gun to shoot Morphaz, and run back a few paces.

(3) When Morphaz has reached you, and Hazzas is closing in -- Vanish. Both dragons will reset, but Morphaz will get there first (if you timed it right so Hazzas was farther away from his return point). Immediately shoot Morphaz again with your x/bow/gun (while Hazzas is still in Evade mode). This second shot requires careful timing!

(4) If successful, you will have pulled Morphaz alone.

Or you can do it the easy way and just do this quest while in a group and get some xp from the other mobs aswell!

I gave this some serious thought, and the mask definatley seems to be the reward for me. If you think about it, the boots, however handy may they be in pvp, are in most ways inferior to the defilers boots. The cloak has a very nice effect as well, but will it give you that extra edge you need when you are actually in combat?

is kind of a tough choice for me.
got a good lvl 49 monkey cloak, have Embrace of the Lycan, and lvl 48 Highlanders boots (AB).
for dps the mask owns with +36 atk power.
if you want imp stealth get 5 points in sub talents on the thing to reduce chance of detection imo.
the -fall damage is pretty pointless coz y do u ever need to jump off anything that high and rogues get reduced fall dmg anyway...

I'd suggest getting the Whisperwalk Boots. They're pretty helpful in most cases, specificaly 1v1 against another rogue. Also saves you 1-2 points in MoD so you can put 'em elsewhere (perhaps Dirty Deeds?).

I would only suggest the boots if you are twinking for 50-59 battlegrounds. The Master's Treads and other +stealth boots are readily available to level 70s and of course the mask is obsolete at level 57. The cape's effect remains unique at the time of this writing.

Those boots are good with the "Increase your effective stealth level by 1" but you can get better boots with better stats from Mara called "Albino Crocscale Boots" which has +20 agi, +5 stam and +5 nat resist, Get the back if you dont already have a better back but can be easily replaced later levels and the head aswell. Suggest you go with the Head, nice +14 crit rating and attack power.

its simple: get the cape! the mask as said before will be replaced sooner than later. for example, this helm http://www.wowhead.com/?item=21317 is the one i took so i didnt waste the cape, the boots can be replaced simply by overpowering stats....but the cape will be original for the rest of the game (considering ur not an engineer, and rogues and engineering dont mix.) point is u wont see a 70 with any of these items equiped for using in combat, the only thing u will rarely see on a 70 rogue is the Duskbat Cape.

I'm amazed it hasn't been brought up yet, but if you want +Stealth, you can still take the cape, then have it enchanted for the effect. Same increase (+5 to stealth), and you get both effects. Admittedly, this will cost you money for mats (unless you happen to be an Enchanter/Herbalist yourself), but it makes the cloak multi-purpose.

This was probably one of those most fun quests that are class specific. The reward was great, and I still have it at level 59. (I chose the boots, since the others weren't a great improvement from what I had.)

Finding the two dragons in the instance was a little bit tough, but we got there pretty easily. I don't know if it was a glitch or not, but for me, the key dropped off Hazzas instead of Morphaz. Possible nerf?

The actual instance yielded a lot of experience, so in itself, this quest was extremely worthwhile to do right away, at level 50.

Anything you have at lvl 52 will be replaced

Head is definitely obsolete in Outlands with any green drop ment for rogue (like http://www.wowhead.com/?item=24713 - "of the Bandit" version)
Cloak is one of the rare "parachute" items in game (don't know if it is unique, but it sure is rare)

So, cloak will last longer than the alternatives, and it does offer very valuable "passive ability" for a rogue (to boost Safe Fall http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=1860 ), since even smallest damage from fall breaks stealth.

But it is true that people stick to the "color" more than to the attributes, which can often mislead them. Looks are important for me too, I even wear http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23909 around the city sometimes :)

Morphaz itself is easy enough as 59 rogue, but I can't seem to pull him alone so it gets kinda hairy when hazzas joins in... And even then I got Morp to like 100hp and died :|

Just as an update for everyone - it seems like you can no longer use the lovely idea posted above. I saw that and I was excited to think I'd be able to get the needed mob solo.

Unfortunately, they've linked the two mobs per another post I found. So, even when they reset, if you shoot again you get both. In my experience... this = bad ju ju ;)

I was surprised, but this was easily soloable as a level 62 Rogue, given the power of Outlands greens.

Stat-wise, any of these items are severely underpowered, but I plan on taking the Cloak for the Safefall effect =)

And that is why those with no interest in looks always end up with the coolest and best gear. Prudence ftw!

Seriously though, Blizzard isn't always spot on with item appearances so always trying to look good will eventually get in the way of being at the top of your game at some time or another. (Has anyone seen a Tauren in the Embrace of the Viper set? *shivers*) And I've noticed that, especially as a rogue, the only way to look unique is to wear the things that everyone else doesn't consider "cool looking" for a rogue. I mean, yea, Blood Elf Bandit Mask does look pretty cool, but who doesn't have it? (Or the imitation?)

If you really want to be smart about this, you would get the cloak. If you want the mask because of pure looks, there are be plenty of other BA rogue masks that sort of match its style, and many that look cooler. The boots are good and would be a bit of help, but most people by now should be comfortable with the nuances of stealth to not really need the stealth level 1 increase (at least all the rogues I know). If you still want the boots, take a look at the list in the comments on this page...
-Stealth Boots List-

The cape is a wise investment for a few reasons...
I. It stacks with safe fall (which apparently lets you fall from the cliffs in AB and still keep stealth);
II. Unlike Paracute Cloak or the Skyguard's Drape, the effect is constantly applied (Equip effect);
III. And also unlike the above two cloaks, you do not need 225 Engineering or Revered status with the Sha'tari Skyguard for use.

These three reasons should be enough to convince anyone to get the cloak. It's just the fact that, like many have already said, it has lasting value, and is relatively unique for how easy it is to acquire. The other items are just not that unique. However, if you really want the mask or boots, its your loss (lets just hope if you're in my battlegroup your an ally lol :)

Ok. Really? 21 posts and all but 1 or 2 are a forum discussion about which reward is better. 1 or 2 tell me what level you were when you killed the 2 dragons. Thanks for NOTHING! Where in the instance do I find the dragons? What do I have to do to get them to spawn? Are they already spawned? Most importantly where in the instance are the dragons? I'm a big boy. I can decide which reward I want on my own. I do appreciate those who said it can be solo'd and at what level. But what would be the most helpful info to give up on this quest? Where are the dragons?

When you first enter the instance, take the door all the way left. It leads up some stairs and i believe straight to the dragons without any options. They are already spawned, floating around guarding their sleeping friend.Not solo able at 55, lol! The dragons were 50 elites for me with another 50 elite sleeping at the end of their chamber.

Since patch 3.0.2, Duskbat Drape's description says "Equip:Improves hit rating by 10". So no more safe fall from this item. :(

This was EVIL and Dirty! I don't see a single reason for this change to have been forced. If there are other items that can provide a safe fall bonus What are they? I sold this item to merchant thinking Id mistakenly kept the wrong cloak.

Now, as you can most likely see, these items can now be replaced VERY easily, almost worthless in my opinion. Just get the Ebon Mask, looks cooler and could be used for role play.

(as above post said) The boots can be replaced by http://www.wowhead.com/?item=8197 for the stealth, and not that great for stats. (I mean seriously, 4 stamina, and a bit of agility?)

As other people said, the cape is not that great anymore because of the nerf, and can be replaced by http://www.wowhead.com/?item=17739, for the stamina. 4 agility isn't much, and I'd rather have more health than more chance to hit. Plus its from a lower level instance.

And again, other people also said that you can replace Ebon Mask easily with BC or some other helm, but that is the coolest of the 3.

Just wanted to clear things up, sorry if I bothered you.

I personally would go with http://www.wowhead.com/?item=18698 as a mask. Looks cooler for one and hit rating is nice to have. You lose only about 26 AP and 1.21% crit (at 50) So i would personally go with either cape or boots. Leaning towards cape for lots of agility, also you don't replace capes very often.

The Duskbat Drape's old equip effect is useless in Wrath of the Lich King as fall damage no longer breaks stealth.

C'mon now, this page is chock full of rogues....you guys aren't rogues if you prioritize agility over looking cool. ;) I personally have my Red Defias Mask on me, it's been there since level 8....guys, grab what you want, i don't give a rip and neither does anyone else here...but don't boast about what's better than what. This quest is like a candy store owner giving you one free candy. Just one. Some people like the chocolate bar, some people like the licorice whips, some people like the bubblegum. We're all rogues here, don't bother arguing about which is better. Me? I'm just in it to look cool, i can skip the .15-something percent crit/dodge chance, cause hey. You might have a better stealth. Or hit more often. But all my victims will say "wow, that was a stylin' guy in a black mask who just one-shot me." xD

Can someone attach the "Sunken Temple" tag to this quest?

I was searching all quests related to the Sunken Temple to collect them before doing the dungeon. But unfortunately, I didn't know this rogue quest requires something from there, so I have to go back there again.

Well I'm not for certain on what you should pick since the nerf of the cape, but if you run dungeons like I do now with the new dungeon system, you should get some really good boots already and in my opinion since the goody bags don't give out helm pieces, I suggest you go with the helm because it is the most useful. If you don't like it's look, You can always run Zul'Farrak and get the Helm of the Lycan and get the cool wolf helm to wear for some decent stats...

It will take some time to decipher the fragments and remove the enchantment. When I am complete, I'll deliver the bag to Lord Ravenholdt personally.

There is still the matter of the key, said to be held by a green drake known as Morphaz. The drake has made its home deep in the Temple of Atal'Hakkar, the entrance to which lies in the Swamp of Sorrows.

Gather your friends and venture to his lair. Lord Ravenholdt will await your return with the key.
