The Tuyere is only dropped by Dark Iron Steamsmiths. There are only a few that spawn, about 5 or 6 i think. They're near the steamery at 39,50.

The spyglass is dropped by Dark Iron Lookouts. You can find them near the towers that surround the cauldron.

Just to help clarify, the steamsmiths are directly south of Kalaran Windblade. They are up top, before the elevator that lowers you into the gorge.

I spent a lot of time wandering around in the caves below and couldnt find em... heh

I got the Smithing Tuyere from a Dark Iron Steamsmith after my 4th kill at around 43,51.

I got the Lookout's Spyglass after my 9th kill from a Dark Iron Lookout at around 53,59.

The drop rate is somewhere around 4%, it's just a matter of your luck. If you don't get it soon, then just keep trying, the quest should take no more than 20 minutes.

wow i can't believe its that low a drop rate, i got my tuyere on my fourth steamsmith and my spyglass on my third lookout.
I guess you just have to get lucky

ok so this quest has not been fun at all.

The lookouts are just west of the cauldron on the top. There average level is about 47 and I was lucky and got the spyglass on the second kill

The steamer dudes are right at the elevator that takes you down into the cauldron and they are on the top level. There are only 5 there that i could find and killed them and there respawns for over an hour. Still hasn't dropped. The only reason i haven't abandoned this quest is because the monetary reward is pretty good and even though I can't use the quest rewards I can disenchant them.

Ok, i killed probably 300 lookouts trying to get the spyglass, it took FOREVER! At level 48, i got over 40 000 exp just from grinding these guys trying to find the glass, soooo lame.

lol i must be lucky... got my spyglass from the 33.6, 53.7 Dark Iron Lookouts and got my Tuyere from the Steamsmiths at about 40, 50, 2nd kill on the Dark Iron Steamsmiths....

oh and for lore purposes its called Dark iron tuyere for a reason, it's not really stolen but were stealing it for them.. but who liked Roleplaying... lol

There are 6 Dark Iron Steamsmiths in total. 2 at the Tents to the west of the Cauldron Smithy, 3 at the smithy, and 1 at the tents to the east of the smithy.

It took me just over 1 hour and 22 minutes to complete this quest. The hangup was the Smithing Tuyere. It just would "not" drop.

OMG this quest is annoying, I swear to god I have been trying to get the smithing tuyere for about 1hr and a half, its really annoying. I don't know if it will ever drop for me

The spyglass dropped on first kill. The Tuyere on the other hand hasn't dropped after an hour+ of killing the steamsmiths.

I recommend running and doing other quests while they respawn. Such as killing golems, or spiders/etc.

I still haven't finished the quest and I've been killin these guys forever. You guys are right, smiths are just right from the elevator, but the lookouts aren't only on the west side of the cauldron. They're all around it, any tower.

I've been killing the Lookouts and the Steamsmiths all day, neither will drop, I say this quest is a complete waste of time for anyone at all.

The "Dark Iron Steamsmiths" are around the steamery, there are in total 6 of them, they drop the "Smithing Tuyere". "The Dark Iron Lookout" drops the "Lookout's Spyglass". They are at every watchtower in and around the "The Cauldron", but be sure you don't go in a watchtower, there's a lvl 48 elite "Dark Iron Sentry" in it and no "Dark Iron Lookout", not really hard to kill that "Dark Iron Sentry" either.

I seem to have the exact opposite luck. The smithing tuyere dropped on 5th kill and i spent the following 1.5 hours killing lookouts. Still hasn't dropped. I'll come back to it when I'm less frustrated....

As of Patch 2.3, the dwarves are no longer Elites. Quest much easier. Still low drop rate on the Tuyere

In 2.3, the dwarves are no longer elite, but there appear to be environment issues, because many times I've ridden by and there's only 2 or three Steamsmiths to kill. I can't find ANY at the Steamery, only one per camp, if they're there at all.

I suspect they may be stuck inside of buildings or something, like so many other 2.3 mobs.

Over two hours on the the Steamsmiths and I haven't gotten the Tuyere yet. Did manage to get the spy glass in about 15 minutes though.

WARNING: I just had a GM confirm that THIS QUEST is the one that BUGS the Gnomeregan teleporter quest line!!!!

If you complete this quest before you complete Chief Engineer Scooty (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2842 ), you can NOT pick up that quest anymore, and you will NOT be able to get your Goblin Transponder (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=9173 ) to teleport to Gnomeregan.

Reminder: Chief Engineer Scooty is obtainable after you talk to Nogg next to Sovik and accept Rig Wars (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2841 ).

The GM escalated my ticket to a Character Specialist, said it will take 3-5 days for him to respond. Currently waiting for the response.

Spyglass was easy. The tuyere took 22 kills and over an hour. I suggest you skip this quest.

Had no problems as a lvl 50 dranei shaman. Just did the quest, took about 2 kills of each "type" of dark iron dwarf to get quest items.

The drop rate for this quest seems like PURE luck.... I got it on my fourth lookout and about my 17th steamsmith. Also you can group up for this quest and you will both get the loot if more than one person are doing it at the same time.

After 10 Steamsmiths, i got one.... that is 10% chance actually.
Keep watching around the big steamery (with huge wheel), i see there 5 mobs, but don't know where 6th mob...

Two mobs by big wheel, 2 tents at left has each one, one tent at far right has one (with another mob). 6th mob is not seen there, but perhaps another tent behind wheel in the north. But that tent with anvil and forge has nobody.

Edit: There are just 2 seen by the steamery. Not 3 mobs. That makes 5 mobs in total.

Both propably have the same droprate but as mentioned, the problem is that there are way too few Steamsmiths. I've done this quest 3-4 times with different characters and always gotten the Smithing Tuyere in the first few kills but right now when just finished it with my shaman I killed 40+ Lookouts for the spyglass.

I must have killed a good 25 of those guys before the item finally dropped, it is pretty low for a quest item in terms of drop rate.

Terrible droprate for the Tuyere. Some people said it's gotten better recently, but I cleared the camp of Steamsmiths at least 5x while questing and it never dropped. I'm hanging on the quest just for the heck of it (I have all the other objectives done), but I'll probably end up abandoning it: this droprate is just plain stupid.

If youve killed at least 25 steamsmiths and still havnt gotten the tuyere then just re take the quest

Respawn on the Steamsmiths seems to be approx 6-8 minutes depending on what you kill around them.

I have killed approximately 30 of them and still no drop of the Tuyere, so the droprate's still not too amazing. Hopefully it'll drop soon tho :)

Edit: actually, the respawn can be as fast as 3-4 minutes, but it's crazy random (aka- not in the order you killed them first)

I'm currently still doing this quest, (started about an hour and a half ago). Took about an hour to get the Spyglass from the Lookouts and i'm still waiting for the Tuyere to drop from the Steamsmiths. What makes it worse is that there aren't that many Steamsmiths that spawn and that there are other players killing them as well for the same quest.

With the Lookouts, you could combine killing them with the quest, Set Them Ablaze! as you'd find them around the towers you need.

I agree with Kainr's comment and that you should do other quests nearby whilst waiting for the mobs to re-spawn.

If you're lucky, the spyglass will also drop with the lookout with the Overlord. (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=7701) It dropped for me, so I don't know if this occurs often or not, but it was an excellent way of killing two birds with one stone.

Drop rate for the Tuyere was practically nonexistent for me. Got it after 2 hours of farming these little suckers. Not to mention that there are only 6 of them and their respawn rate is so slooooooooow!

EDIT: Acquiring a Spyglass also took a few billion kills. The mere fact that there are a lot more lookouts then steamsmiths around made this one a bit less tiresome, but still pain in the butt.

Do this quest only if you have policy of solving all the quests there are or you are EXTREMELY bored, otherwise stay clear of it!

I don't care if I get downrated for this, but this quest is the mother of all the !@#$ty quests in WoW! I hate it so f*cking badly! I just don't understand how blizzard could design a quest like this! 5 mobs! with about 5 min respawn rate! AND LESS THAN 5% DROP CHANCE!

This was unquestionably the longest and most frustrating quest I've undertaken in a very long time. The easy part was the Smithing Tuyere. As noted already it dropped from the Steamsmiths on the north rim of the Cauldron. I had to wait for a couple Steamsmiths to respawn but got the item after killing 9 Steamsmiths. Then the frustration began. For the next 2 hours and 40 minutes, I killed Lookout after Lookout without getting the Spyglass. I killed every one of the Lookouts (5 or 6 Lookouts per tower plus the odd Golem who was in the way) at each tower at least 3 times each with some going as much as 5 times before the Spyglass finally dropped. I got a good deal of silver coin but that was small consolation for the time invested. The Spyglass finally dropped from a Lookout at the eastern-most tower. If the appearance of an item on any given MOB is random I must have paid dearly for others who got it after killing just 1 or 2 Lookouts. It's no fun on the long end of the bell curve.

The quest was long, and very time consuming. I agree with the above comment to perhaps work on other quests in the area while doing this one. Both drops for me, it took over an hour.

I dont know if this is the case but i killed MANY steamsmiths w/o getting the drop. i then went and killed 2 lookouts, got the drop, and then came and got the drop on my first steamsmith. so maybe go for lookout glass first?

This quest couples well with http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=7729 as you can kill the Taskmasters and Slavers while waiting for the Steamsmiths to respawn.
Another quest that couples well with it is http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=7723, as there are lots of Golems nearby.

A chest also spawns at 37.8, 48.7.

Important read this!

The logging in and out works simply find the mobs log out then log back in kill them and the item will drop go to the other set of mobs and repeat and I guarantee you will get the item within the first kill. I had been working on this quest for half an hour when I saw the comments on here to try it and it does indeed work.

just tried the log in / log out thing... didn't work for me. i killed 3 lookouts and had no luck.
mind you, this is after killing lookouts and steamsmiths for about an hour and finally getting the steamsmith to drop his goodies. grrrr.
sooooo, i decided to try it yet again. logged and waited a few minutes, then logged back in, and got it on 2nd lookout.

Drop Rate: Smithing Tuyere HORRID!
Drop Rate: Lookout's Spyglass Not Much Better!

By far the Smithing Tuyere is the hardest to get. Don't plan on just waltzing in and grabbing that thing quickly unless you have the gift of the WoW Gods on your team. And PRAY you don't have to fight with others to get it either. Been @ this quest for almost 2 hours now and still nothing. Got the Spyglass 1st shot. But that latter just SUX!

Note: Ok as I was posting this I killed 3 more of the Dark Iron Steamsmiths and nailed the Smithing Tuyere. w00t for me! 2 Hours 4 mins total time to complete this damn thing.

They may have upped the droprate on these items in a recent patch, because I just did this for Loremaster, and got both items within 15 minutes.

Or, I'm just really lucky and should drop everything to go to Vegas.

Got the Lookout Spyglass and This on my first Lookout kill (I must be extremely lucky...). The Smithing Tuyere on the other hand, took 30 or so steamsmith kills. There are Heavy War Golems and a Taskmaster near-by the Steamsmith spawns, so you might want to do the other quest that involves them while you try to get the drops.

EDIT:

And here are some quests that would be good to do along with this one.

Quest 1

The Slavers and Taskmasters are all around, including 1 Taskmaster on the far eastern side of the Steamsmith spawns. The Easternmost Camp near this taskmaster also seems to sometimes spawn a taskmaster or Slaver in place of a steamsmith. (Or both.)

Quest 2

Quite a few of the mobs for this quest can be found right near the Steamsmiths, to the north.

Okay so, I hadn't been doing the quest for too long, but it was my last quest in this area, so obviously I didn't want to wait for ages for the Tuyere. I read online about this /script LeaveParty() and tried it, but it never worked, I killed about 6 Dwarves. Then I read that smeone tried to click the macro while actually fighting, so I did that and spammed the hell out of it.

It worked ^^ Though I'm pretty sure it was just a coincidence, it was so good to be able to move on :P

The only information you have about these items is the following: They were definitely stolen by Dark Iron dwarves. The Smithing Tuyere is a blacksmithing tool used by blacksmiths and the Lookout's Spyglass is an invaluable monitoring tool to lookouts.
