When you start the fight, put the scryer as far as you can in the NW corner, and stand in the SE corner. For the first 2 waves, you can single-pull the spirits. Last two waves are groups of 3+. It's not a hard fight as long as your pally (or pallies) use the proper judgement on the mobs, I've done it with only the pally with the quest before with minimal problem. The order is Wisdom, Justice, Righteousness, Light. The spirits will have names that hint at what to use (Banality, Malice, Corruption, Shadow) At the end of each wave, an Aspect of (wave name) appears, basically supposed to be a miniboss for that wave, but they're easy. Once the boss comes up, he goes down quick and the pally has his mount!

I don't know any 'ideal' group setup for this, but the other night, myself and a fellow paladin, a mage, a priest, and a hunter did this quest. It really helps to alternate judgements between the paladins to keep the mobs stunned.

Also nice to know that multiple paladins can do the quest at once.

A nifty tactic (if you have a priest) is to shackle one of the mobs in each wave. Kill everything else but the shackled one and it gives you a breather. We managed to keep the group up at almost full life/mana this way.

Alternatively, a paladin could try and keep one perma-feared. That may work too.

Dont let the previous posters scare you with this quest's difficulty. My party composition was a 57 warlock, 58 hunter, 60 mage, 60 priest (very well geared, renews were ticking for 406) and myself, a level 62 protection spec paladin. no one in the group came close to dying, except on the miniboss for each wave where i hit 50%. sure we had to mana up a little after the wave with all the shadow bolts, but other than that, piece of cake. I'm sure that the quest can be completed *without* the correct judgements but it does make it alot easier - atleast in my group

In my experience, the ranks of the judgements do not matter, so go ahead and use you're highest one. just make sure you have them in the right order and your set. I found that setting up a separate casting bar with the seals in the 1-4 order with judgement in the #5 slot helped a great deal.

You summon the spirits in the same room as Rattlegore stand in.

Clear it and place the divination scryer in the NW corner but still on the mound (which rattlegore stand on). Tell your party to stand in the SE corner before you start.
As soon as you place the scryer ghosts spawn but they are easy to kill so just run to the other players and kill the ghosts. You can judge seal of wisdom (I used the highest rank on all seals and it worked just fine) to stun them for a few seconds. Also works on the aspect. Second wave isn't too hard either, few elites but can be pulled one and one. Judge seal of justice to stun spirits and the aspect. Third wave is three groups of three elites. Do NOT pull the middle group first. Start with the group by the door and take the middle group last. When you pull the middle group all remaining groups will aggro. Remember to judge seal of righteousness on both spirits and aspect.

Might be useful to put the shadow res aura on for the last wave. The last wave was easy too, few elites spawn every now and then. We had to wait a while betweent the spawns. Good time to rest and drink/eat. Use seal of light on spirits and the aspect. When the aspect is killed the boss will spawn. He's easy to kill.
Loot the boss, use the charger's lost soul to get the charger's redeemed soul and hand in the quest :)

Did it with a 70 hunter, 70 mage, 70 shadow priest, 69 rogue and me, 61 pally. Its really easy when you figure it out and do it right, hope some of you won't have to do the same mistakes we did. If you wipe, abandon the quest, go back to your trainer and take it again. Reset the instance and do it all over again. We couldn't find any other way to finish it.

Done with a group of pretty well geared level 70 prot warrior, pretty well geared level 70 rogue and standard geared level 64 holy paladin, we didn't even bother with judging seals and just cut through anything spawned, it was pretty easy...

Once the paladin loots the dead knight, you will find the soul of the charger. You will need to use that item near the charger's spirit to turn it into the redeemed soul required to complete the quest.

Just wanted to let everyone know. This questline is easily soloable at level 70. Or at least it was for me as Protection spec. And for this last quest. The rank of the spell you judge does not matter. I was using ranks above those posted earlier in the comments. Hope this helps... -Zephia 70 Draenei Paldin

Just tried to complete quest. Had plenty of people. Ran into problem. I spoke to horse before I recharged the soul stone deal, wouldn't accept. I recharged the item and my blessed barding was gone when I tried to complete again! I don't think I can accept the quest to get that piece again, so I'm hoping this gets resolved smoothly. I have a ticket open and will post results. I'm so frustrated and nervous.......

A 70 hunter and I (level 62 prot paladin) easily solo'd this. The hunter had most of t4. The only trouble we had was when we stood in the middle of the area and about 5-6 elites spawned. I had to pop lay on hands on the hunter, but overall it was very easy. The boss and the end is cake too.

I just two-boxed this easily with a 60 Holy Paladin and a 70 Arms Warrior after failing in my first attempt. In addition to the advice given so far, here are a few tips that may help if you run it with a similarly minimalist crew.

1) The first 3 waves are cake, even more so if you have anything that can lower the melee damage of the spirits (like Demo Shout). You can safely run Ret Aura for most if not all of these first 3 waves.

2) The 4th wave is when it can get a bit tricky if you're unprepared - the mobs will lob a lot of Shadowbolts and Shadowbolt Volleys. Shadow Protection Potions will essentially trivialize the rest of the event, so feel free to bring some if you're running with a light crew. The final boss (Death Knight Darkreaver) will go spam-happy with shadowbolts, but they're much more manageable than the 4th wave.

3) Darkreaver's Mind Control *may* be ranged-based. My paladin was MCed early on when she was standing 10 feet from the DK. I moved her to max healing range after the first MC and was untouched the rest of the fight.

I had to place the Scryer in the middle of the room to start the event. Still, standing in one of the corners by the entrance can help provide some downtime when needed.

Helped my buddy (60 prot pally) go through (I'm a 70 affliction warlock). I drain tanked then entire thing, resisted almost all of the shadowbolts, and easily defeated the boss. It was pretty easy. No deaths.

Dual-boxed with a 63 Holy Pally and 70 sl/sl Lock. Only had one scary moment during the third wave of spirits (all 9 came at once), but thankfully had a soulstone up and finished the rest with no problems. Tendris Warpwood was easy to dual-box as well for the prerequisite quest.

We did it with lvl 64 pally, 70 warrior and 62 druid. The hardest part was getting to the basement. When we got there, I couldnt place the scryer in the NW corner, so I placed it in the center. If you use the proper judgment, all the nearby spirits will be stunned at the same time. I just kept judging the same one until it died and moved on to the next. Different waves didnt seem to do a lot of damage since I kept stunning them with the judgments. Initially, I didnt judge the first mini boss but it didnt seem to affect summoning the Darkreaver. Once Darkreaver is dead, redeem the chargers soul from the drop from the Darkreaver and pick up your new charger.

I posted on the thread for the entire questline -- you don't have to judge to get this done. I did it with a 70 rogue, 70 me and 70 mage; and I didn't judge once ... just consecrate and heal. :/ N oclue why you have to judge -- can't wait to try it with my wife's ret paladin.

Very easy to solo as a lvl 70 holy paladin. Just jjudged the right seal and stuff. Only problem i encountered was that i put the item in the center of the room and some of the mobs took forever to spawn..

Just attempted on my holy pally (60) and 2 mages (70) and we wiped on the 3rd wave, for some reason we pulled the one near the gate as someone suggested but it pulled everything so we just wiped. Really sucks that you have to restart the quest and do it all again. But whatever going to try it later...

You know I just did this tonight. I am a 63 Prot Pally, and I had a 70 Holy Pally and my brother a 70 Affliction Lock. We had no problems.
Was easy as cake and you don't even have to use your seals. Though they can help slow things down a little.

The last wave I pulled everything all at once, the Holy Pally healed me and everything went real smooth. The DK at the end went down like melted butter.

I was glad to get this done as I went from 2 manning Start for Waters all the way through to the end in one night.

As to the above statements about only having one shot at this i'm not sure.
because there are holes in the floor in the room above where rattlegore sits there are plagued hatchlings in there not sure if they get blocked after you start the ritual though.

I did do this quest with my two friends, DPS shaman and moonkin specced druid as healer and we had little trouble with this quest.

My gear was mostly good outland greens as "Of the sorcerer" so I got nice stats. etc...

Now I enjoy my expensive but well worth of it epic charger mount.

For those challenged on a step by step as far as after the Dark Knight battle finishes, here it is:

1. Dark Knight dies, his corpse is lootable like anything else.

2. Mount sits there with a ! waiting for you.

3. Summon/Cast the Lost Horsey Soul or whatever it is called that is in your bag in the horse standing in front of you. It's a 5-8 second cast.

4. Horse will turn into a ?.

5. Click on the horse, and complete quest.

6. Mount is yours.

done with a 70 'Lock and 70 Paladin. One challenging moment on the last group of enemies. The bosses were cake although you should watch the mind control on the Dark Knight if there's only two of you.

This encounter appears to be nerfed quite a bit. I just completed this on my 60 Paladin with the help of 2 70's and a 65... Using Judgments was completely unnecessary... Using a Judgment still caused the mobs to be stunned but it didn't appear to be necessary for the encounter.

Summary: No more need to worry about what Judgments for what mobs. Just burn them all down.

Just did this with a level 70 prot paladin (me) helping a level 60 ret paladin (a friend).

First we cleared with his 70 alt, and got everything ready. Then he switched toons.

While doing the event, everything went somewhat smooth, but then he was stupid and aggroed the mobs in the third spawn, and didn't bubble for some reason :(

I'm writing this to let everyone know that even if the paladin trying to complete the quest dies, as long as someone who can rez survives (like i did) and finish the event, they can rez the paladin (assuming they haven't released), and the quest can still be completed.

O and I second the whole "prot paladins can solo at 70" comment, as i basically did :x

Ok, I've tried this thing and wiped an uncountable amount of times. What I can't understand is why do I pull all the Corrupted mobs? I've tried everything....when I do get this done, I have enough screenshots to make a visual guide :-p

I did this (cheated a little) with myself (a lvl 61 ret pally), and two lvl 70 pallys (holy, prot), and a lvl 65 mage. We did this easily without the judgements, but the take out (approx) 15% hp and stun the ghosts for a short time.

I experienced an odd bug on this quest that actually worked to my advantage.

Finished this last night with a weird group, my 65 prot pally tanking, along with a 62 boomkin druid "healing," and two newbs for DPS - a 61 MM hunter & 61 affliction lock.

We made it to the Ossuary basement just fine, but our newbs got in trouble and wiped on the 3rd wave of spirits. The gate leading to the Ossuary was locked, meaning our newbs could not rejoin us to help with the final wave and the Darkreaver! So that left me and the boomkin to try and finish it up. We would have been ok if not for the Darkreaver's mind control - he nabbed me and forced me to beat the crap out of the poor Boomkin. Then I ended up wiping on him at 65%. So I release and corpserun back into the instance...only to find the gate into the Ossuary is still locked.

Just as I'm about to give up on the run, here comes the Darkreaver, riding through the locked gate. He had come all the way up the stairs from the basement. I have no idea how we aggro'd him from that distance. Anyway the four of us handled him easily, the gate re-opened and he dropped the Charger's Lost Soul. I had to run back down to the Ossuary basement to change it to Charger's Redeemed Soul.

A weird experience, but worth it.

Got a question.... I am trying to find a party for Scholomance for some days now.
The seals :
* Seal of Wisdom (rank 3) -> Banality
* Seal of Justice (rank 1) -> Malicious
* Seal of Righteousness (rank 8) -> Corrupted
* Seal of Light (rank 4) -> Shadowed

Do i need to use the right one on the right soul or ghost then? Its not rlly clear for me. So i should memorize them out of my head?
Could use a answer =)

I am gonna try it later. With some friends.

Solo'd as a 70 Holy Pally (1900 Heals, but sure you could do with less was really easy.)

The purpose of the judges is it stuns the mobs, but it also damages the stunned mob and all mobs around it for like 20% of its health. Therefore u can round up like 3 of em, and take turns judging each of em. Once two or 3 are judged, just attack with melee weapon to keep them all judged. That way the stun and dmg proc keeps going off and they die super quick.

There was one where I had to los the mobs to gather them up, cause they were casters. Just hide behind one of the walls in the pits with the bones.

For the deathknight boss, I just judged light on him. Then kept righteousness up and kept judging that. And using exorcism when it was up. Flash healing myself every now and then.

Lastly you can drink between some waves, but sometimes they spawn on top of you. Alternative is to pull one, get it down to like 5% and let it keep attacking you ( they dont hit very hard). Regen your mana and finish it off when your good to go.

Really it was harder clearing Rattlegores room, than it was to do the event.

I just finished this quest with my lvl 60 retribution Paladin (3/0/48 at the moment). All my gear was green except for my chest, and the 70 BM-hunter that helped me out was in greens and blues. We didn't have any problems at all. No heals, no pots, and none of us got below 50% hp during any stage of the event. Once we reached the fourth wave of mobs we were basically standing around, waiting for something to spawn. Unless Blizzard has seriously made this a lot easier I must say that, in the end... it boils down to proper judging. It makes all the difference, and it was the only thing I had to do throughout the fight. We had more than enough time to eat and drink between the fights, so no heals were required.

The tactic we used was the one explained above. Place the scryer in the NW part of the mound that Rattlegore is/was standing on, and be sure to have whoever is helping you waiting in the SE corner of the room. You will aggro some mobs while running back to that specific corner, but they're non-elites and incredibly easy to deal with. Once you hit the third wave, start with the one over by the entrance. Then go for the rest. We pulled both the middle group and the NE group at the same time, but as long as you judge the mobs as often as your Judgement CD allows you to, you'll be perfectly fine. If you happen to be fighting, as in this case, 6 elites at the same time, pop a Holy Wrath after having judged the mobs, if you feel like speeding it up.

Just remember; proper judging is the key since that'll AoE-stun the mobs surrounding your target. If you specced Sanctified Judgement you'll see that you won't be needing any pots, and you won't need to eat and drink even though the event allows you to do so fairly often. Use Retribution Aura for the first three waves, then switch to the Shadow Resistance Aura once you spot one of them shadowtossing fourth-wavers, and keep it on for the final boss. He'll MC you if you get too close, but I think it can be avoided by staying away from him, at max healing range. We didn't bother with that though, so I dps:ed the boss while the hunters pet held the aggro. I got MC:ed twice, but that was taken care of by freezing traps.

Loot the boss. Stand on the mound. Target the spirit, and right-click the questitem you looted. The charger is yours to claim.

Did this as a 62 Pally with a 70 Hunter. Was pretty easy, just had to make sure to use the correct judgements to keep him from getting overwhelmed with mobs. I pretty much tried to stay out of the fights, just throw judgements and heals on his pet. The 3rd wave was definately the hardest, but it was still pretty easy. I followed the above advice about putting the scryer in the NW corner and us staying in the SE corner.

Did this last night with another Paladin.
Me being 69 Retribution, and the other Paladin was 63 Retribution.

Only time it got a little shaky on the HP department was when the Shadow Bolt/Volley spamming wave came and dropped a few bolts and volleys on us, since neither of us was very prepared for it.

Besides that, a walk in the park, and it was slightly cheaper then buying the epic riding skill too! :)

So go get it, it's worth the time to do it :D

Just finished this solo as a level 70 Prot. The Seals do still work, with any Judgement, as the commenter above said. The shadow bolts during the last wave were quite hard to deal with and I wound up dying once. I thought I had blown it, but I made my way back down to the Ossuary. The gate was locked, but as I was dealing with some of the trash in the room, the Dark Knight came up the stairs and we resumed the last part. Just had to withstand all his shadow bolts and burn him down.

After he was dead, the charger appeared. At first I thought it was bugged, as I couldn't complete, but I just had to run down to the basement to redeem his soul. Then it was all done, and I must say, totally worth it. Do it the right way, before they kill this epic chain.

With a couple of 70s generating DPS on this event, the mobs go down very fast, until the last set. They are timed and you may find yourself standing around waiting a couple of minutes between spawns.

Just solo'd this as a 70 Holy spec (after trying several times since about 62)...and the order of the judgements is Wisdom, Justice, Righteousness (use the seal, then whatever judgement), then Light. When you get to the third wave, its a good idea to pull 'em two or three at a time as they are a bit tougher than the other two waves (found out the hard way after trying to pull them all and getting smoked rather quickly).

I just finished the chain today. It was so satisfying. It saved me lots of gold as well and made me that much more happy that I did the chain instead of just learning it at level 61

Solo'd as a 67 retri pala ... the satisfaction was immensely.

Getting there

First of all, in order to access the basement easy without clearing too much trash you can jump down on the right of the platform, into the corner of the room bellow, as you enter the instance (right before the very first guards). BoP yourself if you want, it's only about 1k health loss. You will be agroed immediately by a group of 3-4 mobs, easy to solo. After this, stay close to wall (walk the edge) and exit through the door on the left; in the next room you don't have to fight anyone (aggro range was small enough at 67), just watch the patrols and you can enter the whelps room safely (door on the left again). In the whelp room hug the left wall and you have to clear through 2 groups of mobs maximum.

Basement of the Great Ossuary

Range pull with Exorcism the first 2 mobs on left and right and deal with them at the door. You can range pull Rattlegore just the same, but be careful of the mobs wandering behind him so you don't get any add. I wanted to play safe so I used SoL & JoL throughout the fight, spamming CS, DS and consecration. Only had to use 1 mana pot, the instant healing FoL from Art of War was enough to keep me alive (around 24% crit in mixed greens and blues from q rewards).

The waves
Clear the room of the remaining adds and use the quest item on the mound where Rattlegore was standing. During waves I positioned myself on the corner to the right of the entrance; I was able to drink between waves with no problems, except for the last wave when the dark knight spawns immediately.
First wave I used JoW with SoL, second wave JoJ with SoL. Be careful if you chase the mobs from the 2nd wave as they spawn through the room. I wasn't patient and I made the mistake to kill the Aspect from the 2nd wave close to the mound; the result was that the third waves spawned, I aggroed the group from the middle and all the adds came to take a piece of me. I died, had to abandon quest and retake it so I get a new quest item and take it from the beginning of the event.
On the 3rd wave use Seal of Rightneouss and judge anything you want, I preferred light. First pull the group from the door, pull the middle group last.
For the last wave, the 4th, use shadow res aura, it helps with the shadowbolts. Judge light to stun them and burn them fast (CS, DS, Exorcism), they shouldn't hit you more than once. Be careful where you kill the Aspect from the last wave as the Dark Knight will spawn on top of the mound immediately (you may have time for one quick heal to top you). On the Dark Knight I used SoR and JoL; healing through instant FoL was enough, although one time I BoPed myself to get to top HP to be on the safe side.

Finally, claim your charger ... you walked the hard way instead of just training the skill, but you get a nice feeling of accomplishment !

This should be done,you save $$$ on your epic and you do some quests for some exp.My friend foolishly bought the training instead of "wasting like 300g" to do several quests of exp and now complains of being poor,and I got my Lightforge Helm for killing Gandling

I did do this quest for fun i did "solo" is if i can say so (i did have my paladin lvl 64 and my hunter lvl 80 and a druid lvl 15 from anouther acc to hold the team together^^) i did take away all addons so its geting fast too login and then i did come upp to this part paladin put out the and fighted all packs down Divination Scryer then they start coming and im logging my hunter so i can take aggro from pala but he did die so i think in between fights i run him back to fence and let him stand there for rest of the fight so i fight on and i kill each wave (dident use a judge on them) and when DK show upp i logg paladin and then loging fast back to hunter and then go too druid and giving hunter leader and then back too Hunter and put on free for all so pala culd loot the Charger's Lost Soul from boss and then used it to get the Charger's Redeemed Soul then i talked too the horse to get my mount =D

At level 69, I was able to get down to the basement very quickly with minimal clearing. Just drop down to your left immediately after entering Scholomance. If you can land on the ledge, you might not aggro the pack in the corner down there, but they aren't too hard to kill if you do aggro them. Then run along the wall to the door, head across to the dragon room, kill a couple of dragons if needed, and drop down the first hole on the left. You still need to clear the entire basement of constructs, but that's all.

Duo'd as a retadin at 60 with a prot paladin at 60. Very easy, until the shadow wave, but the prot paladin just blew divine protection and I healed them back to full. We duo'd the instance up until there too.

Anyone notice rattlegore is very weak in comparison to before?

I'd also like to say we duo'd all the other quests leading to this one in the chain.

I just tested this and it is the JUDGMENTS that trigger the Holy Blast NOT the seals.

Since there is no Judgment of Righteousness you just have to resort to the old method of pounding on the Corrupted healing yourself as needed.

I just solo'd with my lvl 62 Ret Pally. Mostly BC green and blue gear.

The hardest part was getting through the first few rooms before the whelps. I died a few times, but just kept going back and finishing them off one or two at a time until I could get into the whelp room without drawing aggro, then I cleared the whelp, but you don't have to.

Rattlegore was rather easy. The only time I came close to dieing a few times was fighting the other elites that surround him, just keep a good eye on your health they can knock it down fast.

After clearing and following the directions of what other people have done it was rather easy and only once did I have to use LoH and bubble. It was close to the end when you have the groups of 3 elites. I pulled the group by the door and the next thing I know I have a total of five elites all blasting away. After that it was very easy. I used Seal of Light for the majority of the battles.

Just a quick note... If you are doing this quest with 2 pallies, make sure that the one who drops the scryer is the one that loots the soul. You will also have to reset and reclear before it can be completed a second time.

I dropped mine, we cleared all the waves, then the other pally looted the quest item. There was only one. I hearthed, dropped the quest and picked it back up, got summoned back. Tried to drop the scryer again... no waves. Finally flew back to SW to pick up the quest yet again and completed.

Having just completed this, I couldn't help but notice the wave of the shadow mobs was extremely slow only spawning one or two adds a minute, and I ended up standing around for 10 minutes waiting for the phase to finish before the Aspect of Shadow appeared. I can't say for sure if this is the way the event is supposed to go, but anyone looking to complete this, be patient if this is unintentional.

I killed the death knight and he didn't drop anything, being uniformed, when I looked to find out what was wrong I thought that I had forgotten to go do the chargers soul thing and left. Now I don't have the Scryer and when I went to abandon the quest it would have destroyed the barding. Is there anyway around this?
I put in a ticket but they just directed me to this site.

what if you lose the divination scryer? i was in scholomance, in the basement of the great ossuary. i put the scryer down, got attacked and died. when i got back into the dungeon, the iron gate to the great ossuary was closed and would not open again. i couldn't get the scryer back and later on the dungeon was reset. is there a way of getting another divination scryer without doing the whole quest chain again?

nevermind. you can abandon the quest and pick it up again from there instead of having to do the whole quest chain all over again. fun quest! worth doing even if you already have the epic mount.

just as a note if you bought your charger from the trainer you get no reward other then xp.

also very easy to solo as a 70 prot pally

Can you go ahead and do this entire questline with having learned the charger already, or do i have to do this with just the warhorse?

Solo'd this today as a ret paladin (lvl 80), no problem whatsoever.

only advice I have is to wait it out... When I set the Divination Scryer in the center of the room, different waves of mobs would appear, since I am of higher level, I would kill them pretty fast and the wait time between the waves was pretty long... at times I thought I might have bugged the quest but the Death Knight did appear at the end.

So be patient, kill Death Knight Darkreaver

Use the Charger's Lost Soul (looted from the Death Knight)

and speak with the Darkreaver's Fallen Charger that appears in the room.

Use the Divination Scryer in the heart of the Great Ossuary's basement in the Scholomance. Doing so will bring forth the spirits you must judge. Defeating these spirits will summon forth Death Knight Darkreaver. Defeat him and reclaim the lost soul of the fallen charger.

Give the Charger's Redeemed Soul and the Blessed Enchanted Barding to Darkreaver's Fallen Charger.

Use the divination scryer in the heart of the Great Ossuary's basement to bring forth accursed spirits that must be judged. Use your judgments wisely during this trial - they will prove more potent than you realize. After the spirits, the death knight will appear; defeat him and reclaim the lost soul of the charger. Only then <name>, will you be able to redeem it and place your barding upon your new steed!
