After completion of this quest you will be sent to do the "Amulet of Secrets" quest.

am a 48 Hunter, and when I went to talk to him, he wouldn't speak to me (no exclamation point, and the mouse wouldn't turn into the "Talk Icon" when I moused over him; it just stayed as the Hand). I tried logging out and logging back in, but that didn't work. Then, a group of Horde players came by and killed him. He didn't respawn within about 5 minutes, so I left. I went back to Ryedol and got the "A Dwarf and His Tools" Quest (which I had not done), and did that quickly. I figured maybe I needed to do it 1st for Hammertoe to speak to me. I returned to Uldaman and Hammertoe had the Exclamation Point over his head and spoke to me and gave me the "Amulet of Secrets" Quest.
So, if he won't talk to you, either you need to do "A Dwarf and His Tools" first, or you need to have someone kill Hammertoe for ya. Not sure which one did the trick, but one of them worked. = )

If the coords above confuse you, you have to actually go into the outer cave, before the instance for them to be valid. Those coords are for the Uldaman map, not the Badlands map.

35 Rogue, only had to kill 3 guys to get to him, he's next to a campfire.

If you can't talk to Hammertoe, bring a hordie to kill him, that'll solve that problem. He just needs a reset.

This one does not count towards the Loremaster achievement

This quest does not count for the Loremaster achievement, however later quests in the line do, so it's still worth it if you're working on Loremaster.

If you find yourself unable to get this quest, you must first do 'A crumpled note' in the digsite next door.

One would think that after all this time they would have fixed this quest, but it is still bugged. No yellow question mark for me.

Just confirmed this myself. Couldn't turn in the quest "A Sign of Hope" so brought in a level 58 horde DK and killed him. A few minutes later he repops with the question mark on his head. So yes, all you need to do is kill him and reset him.

If those dirty Shadowforge are holdin' him hostage to figure out what he knows about the titan excavations, then all of Ironforge could be in huge trouble.

For a long time now those Dark Irons have been lookin' for magics to make more powerful golems. Hammertoe was doin' the same, of course, but only to stop them.

They're probably keepin' him alive until they learn what he knows.Ye've got to hurry if you're gonna save him!
