The absolute best drop rate is from The Nameless Prophet. He is a named NPC that wanders around in the first part of Mara, before you even enter
any of the instances. The nice part is, the INSTANT you kill him (and usually one of his friends), he respawns a couple of feet away.
So, basically, you can run back and forth, kill him over and over again, and get this quest done in no time.
My drop rate was 11/13, or 85%.
I would've gotten ALL of my crystals from him, had I known he had such a great respawn/drop rate! Have a hunter with you and he's easily
trackable when he respawns.

Soloed this as a lvl 52 ench shammy - a little twinkede out .
You can get them from all the mobs (except the treants), as fare as i know.
You also get these from the Khans outside Mara (they have a little higher spawn rate, so inside is also good since there are small packs with none elites witch drops these).

If you don't want to do Mara, just kill the Nameless Prophet over and over outside the instance, he is soloable for some classes (was a joke as a 41 BM hunter). Cursed Centaur also drops one if he is up.

Did this as a Lv 45 Druid solo. as long as you can heal yourself quick enough and don't take on 2 you can accomplish this quest out side the instance

If you are 70/80 and just here to get another quest out of the way: Ignore everything mentioned above.

Save yourself the trouble of finding the above mentioned NPC, and simply walk *into the instance* on the purple side and kill demon mobs that are right there in the starting area, get your 15 carvings (high drop rate) and leave.

This quest is available to the Horde now, just accepted it on my Blood Elf Hunter

This quest DOES count for Loremaster of Kalimdor.

Also, if you're doing this quest at high level (ie 60+), just go into the instance for the drops. High drop rate on all the mobs there. Killing the Nameless Prophet over and over will take longer.

Is there a prereq for this? I'm looking right at here and she has nothing to say to me (I'm level 80). I am sure I haven't done this quest yet.

Note that the questgiver belongs to the destructive Old God worshipping Twilight Hammer cult. This leads me to believe she has a bit more than studying in mind for the carvings.

I have the acumen robe, I love it, so glad I did so many quests back in the day; I have rewards no longer available, perhaps when a vanilla server is available, these rewards will be back again :)

The crystal caverns of Terramok lie to the west, deep within Maraudon... It is an ancient place with much history. And I am looking to get my hands on some of it, <class>. Relics of the old gods lie hidden behind the giant doors.

If you are willing to brave the twisted evils found in Maraudon, I believe I can make it worth your time. Collect the theradric crystal carvings you find, and return them to me.

Once I get the carvings, I will be able to... study them. These powers have been too long at rest...
