It used to be common to see people LFG for this... it'd get raided at least once a week, now it's slightly less common... and there's currently a bug that won't let me search for it with the new tool even though I have the quest.

We did it last night, It was really hard but fun, its a good thing the grave yard is close. We had 9 ppl and 5 of them were 70's. We will be trying to get a raid together to do it again today!!

This quest pissd me off alot and the killing the Banshee Champion is a pain in the ass if u dont have a healer, healthstone, potion, and a tank. so dont be freaked tat u die once fighting him. my group died like 3-5 times fighting him and it pay's to get the item and either use them or sell them for some good cash

Is it still a Raid quest now, or can it be done solo?
I have this quest in my log for ages now, never found anyone to raid it up with.

Ok, just tried this as a lvl 67 protection warrior. Easily got myself killed very fast.
He still spawns the legion of skeletons that will simply overwhelm you.

Pretty weird that you can actually solo a raid quest where the target is marked as a Skull, but can not solo a raid quest where the target is simply level 62.
Fair to say that you still need a big party to get this quest done. Worth the trouble? If you have TBC, nope, not at all. :}

In December 2006 one poster noted that it is "slightly less common" to find a raid for this than it used to be. Well, one year into TBC, I can tell you, forget about it. Unless you have a guild at your beck and call, it isn't happening. You can spam "LFG Nathanos Blightcaller" all day long. All you will hear is crickets.

It's really too bad that by "adding content" via an expansion, Blizzard ends up de facto "removing content" because no one bothers with the old difficult quests anymore, unless they can be soloed.

i did it today as a lvl 56 pala. 1st i got help by a lvl 61 and 60 charracters. then on of them invited 1 70 character. then we didnt do it. then another 70 came and we still didnt make it... then 3 more 70 came and we barely made it... so u need many people to do that one... aftervards we went to sthratholme and did it in record time and i got plenty with great stuff! so i was very lucky tonight

Tried this some time ago in patch 2.3 with my level 68 protection warrior. Could run away just in time before i got killed by him and his spawns.
So yea, it is still a Raid quest. Sweet rewards as shown in the quest log, though ofcourse useless after the first few quests in the Outlands.

NOTE: 1 hunter MM i belive 70 1 paladin holy/prot and 1 hunter 57 MM took him out ... paladin tanked the skelly's and dog's while both hunter's layed on the dps = 1 dead old world raid boss trio'ed! also note both 70's are kara geared and the 57 is semi twinkey

we just downed him today. It took about 25 minutes to collect enough help.
70 Fire mage, 70 warrior, 70 holy paladin, 70 enhancement shaman. wiped once.

These hard quests are some of the heart of the storyline. Its sad to see people ignoring it just to slave their lives away doing dailies to fly at taxi speed. Pathetic IMO.

First off coords are 26'74 in the Eastern Plague Lands, for those without coords its directly north of the Undercroft and south west of the Fungal Vale.

Reward was 14300xp and 1k Argent Dawn Rep which makes it worthwhile, the only problem is getting a group, if your in a good friendly helpful guild you should manage.

Secondly i can't stress this enough, healing makes absolutely no difference on him summoning skeletons, i don't know we're this rumor started or it could be that it was a factor in the first few months of wow being released.
If you don't believe me ride by and aggro him then look round and you'll see him spawn skeles, he spawns them every 8 seconds or so.

And if your interested in how we did this, was me healing 62 shammy (ele spec), 70 palla tank, 1 mage 1 rogue and a boomkin all 70 and a 60 boomkin, 70s we're mostly in blue with the odd pvp epic.
Nathanos went down in around a minute, followed by his dogs, mage decided to tank one of the blighthounds -.- but even then i only had to throw the odd healing wave on him, the pally who was mostly in blues didn't even need healing, the battle took about 2min.

We had no interference from the horde, it was around 9pm but we don't have a massive horde pop on turalyon, and i would think a decent player could solo him at 70 with some work.

For a level 55/60 Group i'd advise 10 to 15 people.

Slain with a holy paladin and a BM hunter. Just DPS him and kill the skeletons after his death. Note that dogs are immuned to all CC (traps/fear...).

Soloed as a Lv70 protection paladin in a mix of blues and epics. Resisted the plague auro from the hounds most of the time and the adds hit for nothing. When I got low I used figurine of the colossus to heal to full.

Much to my disappointment after completing the quest a poster said 1,000 argent dawn reputation I jumped all over it. So we knocked it out and turning it in at Stormwind resulted in these results: 5700 Experience and 137 Rep. with Exodar. Now I'm a 68 Holy priest and to not get the rep after all I went through with the killing of this mob and to get what little reward, I must say I am very disappointed. I will open a ticket to see if something went wrong. What happened to this quest? Did they downgrade it?

thats right 2 manned it, a 70 pally tank and me a 57 holy priest , i died twice cause of those damn skeletons but we killed him the first time , 2MANNED IT. strategy , kill the dogs first so the skeletons will be gone so u can focus on him

So whoever said if you kill the dogs first the skeletons will be gone was very wrong lol they kept coming even after the dogs were killed.

We started out with a 70 shadow priest (who attemped healing it), 57 feral druid, and a 70 fury warrior. We wiped first try, then the second try we decided to do the dogs first. Got one dog down, wiped. We went back, got the second dog down, and then wiped again so we only had Nathanos Blightcaller left. We got another 70 fury warrior to join us who helped out the group to get him down. It was really easy after that since neither of the dogs had respawned yet, just had him and the skeletons to deal with. I am sure if the other warrior had joined sooner, we would have been able to take him down with the dogs, as well. Good luck.

Solo'd as a lvl 70 BT/Sunwell geared prot pally. This is not easy. Single pulled and killed each of the dogs. Reset Nathanos. With Ret Aura, Blessing of Sanctuary, Sporeggar Shield(w/ Thorium Spike) and Darkmoon Card: Vengeance I spammed rank 1 Holy Shield til the about 12 adds had accumulated. I threw in a couple max rank holy shields and most of the adds just killed themselves. On the pull I judged wisdom then just stacked Vengeance and judged on cooldown. Popped my Figurine of the Colossus twice. Only real problem is the Physic Scream. Sent me running in fear directly away from him and with my back turned I took a lot of damage. Got him to 19% when I bubbled and bandaged/1 Holy Light. I didn't see it in the previous posts ( aside from the mage being able to use fire aoe's) but the adds are immune to Consecrate. Pretty retarded that any undead mob is immune to holy but those are the breaks. His shout makes it really annoying to stay on top of him, but just keep chasing him.

Just finished this one last night. We had a 6-toon raid group. 3 70's - all casters, the rest were 60 +'s. We attacked everything at once. 3 of us died, but we killed everything within less than a minute. We didn't expect to get him down the first try. Nice surprise for us all. This was a fun raid - my first raid group.

I was going back and doing all quests I missed for the Loremaster achievement and this was one of them. I tried to solo him just for kicks (70 Warrior) even though I had a feeling it was suicide. Sure enough, I could only get him to about 60-70% before biting the dust.

Asked guild to see if 3-4 more people were able to come and help. A ret pally came over before anyone else could. I was sitting down to get food buff when he stormed in. I just sat there lol'ing at him.

Pally solo-ed Blightcaller, and dogs, with 40% health remaining. GG ret.

I love that this quest is one of the first quests you get as a newly accepted into the Alliance Death Knight, and not one of the rewards is usable by a DK.

This quest is "yellow" for me at lvl 59. Everything I'm reading says that if you're buffed, know what you're doing and luck is on your side, you *might* be able to solo it at 70. I'm also reading that often it takes, at minimum, three 68-70 people to do it safely (and relatively quickly). So why is this quest available at such a low level? Yes, I know the point is to get a raid group together. But like other people have stated, tried it recently? So, sadly, I've had to abandon this quest in search of slightly easier targets. An NPC that isn't even (likely) soloable at level 70 is probably not the best quest target for someone who is under level 60. Just sayin'.

Soloed as level 80 warlock destruction fire spec, mostly northrend blues. first I killed 2 dogs and killed myself. then came again and killed Nathanos at the first attempt. i used felhuner for the bonus damage buff, and 1 healthstone. I ignored the skeletons and when Nathanos died they killed me (but quest completed).
looks like currently any 1-2 level 80 can complete it with no truble.

Very easily soloed by a 80 BM Hunter (cat pet). He died so fast that he only got to summon 3 or 4 skeletons. Nuked him down then took care of dogs after.

Level 80 hunter MM spec'd here, just soloed 2 min ago. All I did was hunters mark and dps him. Did not pay attention to the hounds at all and just let them attack me while I cast steady shot and arcane shot at nathanos. At about 8k health I cast shadow meld and hounds and skelitons went after my pet. I cast one heal on my pet and used my trinket which gave me a 1400hp instant heal. I then continued to steady shot, aimed shot then arcane shot and threw down one volly attack and I killed him. At that point my pet got killed and hounds and skelitons are on there way back to you and the fun part begins. Stand there and take it till you are dead, realease, head back to your body, rez, quest complete.

According to the PTR patch notes, the skeletons that are summoned will not be immune to AoE in 3.0.8:

Conquered Soul of the Blightcallers are no longer AE immune.

As a level 70 Protection Warrior pre-heroics geared I couldn't kill it. Simply got my face hitting the floor pretty fast.

Now as a leel 80 Protection Warrior pre-heroics with about 23k HP it was a joke. He barely took 10% from my life away.
The thing that hits the most is actually the part where he will fear you for a couple of seconds and you'll be standing with your back against the mobs. But even then they didn't do much damage.
Really easy.

Probably even more faster and easier for a Protection Paladin because of the many mobs hitting you, the chance of proccing Recknoning is enormous.

Also keep in mind that attacking him will put you in PvP mode. So make sure there aren't any hordies nearby.

Some funny thing I noticed about the dogs is that they have buff that tells it does xx damage to allies. So it should damage the other dog, because they are allies. But it doesn't. So the tooltip seems to be incorrect.

We have done this quest today (patch 3.0.3 - one day before 3.0.8 was released in EU) with a group of five characters:

level 70 protection paladin
level 70 holy priest
level 70 frost mage
level 70 frost mage
level 70 elemental shaman

Here are a few hints for those who still want to do this quest:

Pull the dogs: you can pull the dogs without pulling Nathanos Blightcaller. The dogs are easy to kill, and quickly downed.
Pull Nathanos: it does not matter where you pull him. The number of summoned skeletons will not differ. Whatever you do, pull out any damage you can to kill him. The longer he is alive, the more skeletons will appear and those do not despawn if Nathanaos dies.
The skeletons summoned: those only have ~ 900 HP, and do not hit hard. But if there are 40 around, you will very unlikely survive. You can not kill them with any AOE spell, and it seems Holy Shield does not affect them either. Every skeleton has to be killed one by one.

Sadly there is no real reward for this quest, not even a small event in Stormwind when you hand in the quest.

Soloed as a badly geared 80 shadowpriest. First pulled the dogs without pulling Nathanos, then pulled him and spammed hard DPS, with an occasional AoE to get rid of the skeletons.

Easily soloable by a 70 feral druid with rubbish tanking gear (~14k hp, 40% dodge, 18k armor in Dire Bear form). I spent most of the time swiping and occasionally hitting mangle. The only thing that could become dangerous are Horde players.

Solo'd as an 80 rogue. I did it as a fresh 80 with mostly blues, a little tough but doable. Had to take down his dogs one at a time, vanish, eat and repeat.

It should be easy for any rogue that's decently geared now.

Easy kill at lvl 80 (prot warrior with decent blue/epic gear). I barely lost any hp at all after both him and the dogs were dead. Even though the rewards are crappy at lvl 80, I recommend you to do the quest for the reputation if nothing else.

Did I miss somewhere, that this is a PVP Questline?
Just finished it, Hunter LVL 80, with a DK 76 and a second Hunter LVL 79.
When we finished, we were on PVP.
Was this normal for everyone else? Or I'm just missing something here?
Or, did Blizz turn this into a PVP location event to keep it a challenge?

I just completed the quest with a party of 5, although it was really tough. Most of us were dead or nearly dead by the time the SoB went down.

60 Moonkin Druid (in Grand Marshal gear)
57 Rogue
67 Priest (healer)
61 Mage
59 Death Knight (unholy)

We focused on taking out the dogs first, one at a time, which is what did it for us I think. Having them removed from the equation as early as possible made it easier to deal with the ranger and his puny skeletons.

We were fortunate in that no Horde interfered with our attempt, although I think this was mainly because they were ignorant of it.

Also it's worth noting that our organization wasn't the best, as we were pretty much a Stratholme PuG that I convinced to run south for the quest. The Death Knight even said his ghoul would tank for us. To the ghoul's credit, it survived for a few seconds. The moral of the story is that you can still pull off this quest without bringing in the big guns. It simply takes dedication, and a group willing to keep trying after a few wipes.

From what I hear he must have been a b@%#^ at one point, but I just soloed him as a lvl 78 Hunter.

Killed the Blighthounds first, left my pet to take threat, ran away till my cat disappeared, feigned death to get rid of him and his skeletons then called my pet and went back for the kill.

Just kept him off me and let my arrows and my pet do the trick while a AoE spell and Volley took care of his little minions.

Once he was alone it was a piece of cake... was actually kinda ashamed all these levels not being able to take him out :P

Just soloed him as level 70 feral druid (32.58% critical strike chance).

It is possible for you to get rid of the dogs first, you can aggro them without having to fight Nathanos at the same time.

After I got rid of the dogs I refilled my health and mana, and put a scroll of stamina + my buffs, nothing more.

Went prowling in cat form and started to hit him from behind, when he got the first skeletons out I changed to bear form. I did try two times before with no success, because when I started to do much damage, he'd stun me.

But this time I did like before, at 100 rage, I activated Berserk and started "spaming" Mangle and he didn't stun me once. Since with Berserk I was hitting the skeletons too, they went down quick. Once Berserk was over, he was with little more than 10k of hp, and finished him off with Maul/Mangle on him and Swipe on the skeletons.

Not easy but doable if you're a Druid. Oh and I did have to use a Runic Healing Potion, but it was a pleasure to /spit on his corpse when he was dead :D

So if I'm reading everything correctly, I have to be in a Raid to do this quest? I picked it up on my lvl 80 human pally while working on Loremaster of Eastern Kingdoms, and while I was doing the previous quest (grabbing the SI:7 badges off the corpses), I went ahead and whacked Nathanos while I was at it, no problem at all. But then I went back to SW where the king sent me back to kill the guy (this quest). I've been sitting here for more than 20 minutes now, and the guy just will not spawn. When I arrived the corpses of his dogs were on the ground, so I assumed somebody had just done the quest right before I arrived. Now those corpses have disappeared, but still no respawn...

Just completed this with a level 64 Ret Pally (Me), level 62 ret Pally and a level 60 DK. Took out the dogs on 1st attempt, wiped, then ran back and killed Nathanos. Pretty simple really, kill the dogs and AoE the skeletons (consecration works pretty well). If you have a healer then you shouldn't even wipe.

I don't know if there was an update for him or not; but my boyfriend and I just tried to take him out together last night. Granted we were level 60, and on our Death Knights, but still.. (Yes I know this used to be a raid, no I'm not just some QQing DK D:! Just thought it would be nice to do the quests of a character in range for it. And yes, I know trying to take him out with only two 60's is stupid D:)

My boyfriend read someone saying something about using the roof? That option only works if you have a ranged class and a healer. Nathanos kinda was a Ranger Lord, so he can shoot you from the ground, where as the dogs just stand there staring at you, waiting for you to get down. (Losing aggro is easy, just walk to the back of the roof and they will go back to normal.)

Then I thought I read someone saying pull the dogs and kill them first, because you 'can pull them alone'. That's wrong, because no matter how far the dog went, you tapped or got aggro/sniped it.. It pulled Nathanos and the other dog. Then it feels like he doesn't LOSE aggro once you have it until you are dead.

So at the moment (Boyfriend and I attempted and failed horribly), we didn't down him. ;-;

Going to try with more manpower today.

Today we tried again. This time my boyfriend and I were 62, and brought along my brother who was 60. Zin is currently Blood/Frost, Bob is Blood/Unholy, and I am Unholy/Blood spec'd.
(Zin is my boyfriend, Bob is my brother. Just so anyone reading this wont get confused)

3 DKs vs 2 dogs, Nathanos and his summoned skeletons.
We died twice trying to take them all on at once.. We died the first time with him at 40% HP, came back and tried again with my brother and I off tanking the dogs.. We died again with him at 33% health, then came back.

Zin came up with standing on the roof with Nathanos' aggro while Bob and I kill the dogs. We successfully killed one dog when the skeletons plowed us, and we came back quickly.
Zin said for me to grab aggro and run, because I have On a Pale Horse + Improved Unholy Presence. I was thinking they could pull the dog off me and I'd keep Nath.. One problem though.. They were in combat, so as I'm running away with Nath his aggro swaps to Zin, I run back and Death Grip him. I successfully pulled him and all his new spawned skeletons to me. I try to stay alive on my own, which didn't last very long, and they downed the second dog. Nath comes over and plows the rest of the group.
With both dogs down, I suggested to tank Nath inside the house. I thought the fear would keep us inside, when my brother and I were driven THROUGH the walls.. it was a lol'able moment. Every time we rushed back inside he would fear us away. Thankfully our triple stack Death and Decay killed off the skeletons, my brother and I corpse exploded them just as they died.(If we didn't they would just disappear ;-; )
Then we finally downed him, inside his house.

We had no healer(except Gift of the Naaru from Bob), and no real tank because Zin wasnt full frost, but it still worked out in the end ;D

I soloed this very easily on my 80 ret pally using Seal of Light and Judgement of Wisdom, only had to heal myself once using Flash of Light but never went lower than 85% health. The skeletons he summons are easily killed by aoe.

Then soloed him on my 79 BM hunter in crafted resilience blues, using my tanking (tenacity) pet - a much longer and tougher fight. Feigned death once to shake off skeletons.

You cannot pull the dogs on their own, pull 1, all 3 come. I managed to kite the dog a fair way from the house but as soon as it caught up with me it dazed and Blightcaller caught up and killed me.

Did it with a guild mate as a 66 Warlock (me) and 73 Boomkin and it wasn't too bad to do, killed him first then a dog before a horde ? came by and attacked but certainly possible with 2 people.

Totally just solo'ed this as a level 74 arms warrior. Followed the advice about taking out the dogs first-that helped out a ton. Healed up, buffed some with food, then charged in. Bladestorm helped out a lot and I would advise having at least one potion on you during this fight-I used a super healing potion.

Beat him by the skin of my teeth and then got killed by the still-battling skeletons, but finally totally pwned his ass.

Solo'd today, 80 arcane mage. Fairly tough all things considered though for the area, I put out my mirrors to help with the adds and had to bubble; each mob took a little bit under what it takes me to kill a harder 80. Could have frost nova'd too but wasn't in any danger of dying, just ended up being a bit stronger than I had figured.

It's too bad players the level for that area will have a hard time getting a group for it.. really do like the quests in WoW.

Played a level 80 hunter with an exotic rhino from Northrend.
Rhino took most of the damage.
I killed him in under a minute.
Rhino died though.

Anybody know the respawn rate on this guy? I was working on the loremaster achieve for eastern kingdoms, had to find s7 guys insignias. He was near the guys I was looking for and I killed him for fun knowing it would be way too easy, and it was killed him easily i didn't even lose 5% life (lvl 80 prot pally) but now i'm staring at the empty space where I killed him. Do I have to wait a week or something before I can kill him again?

As a horde, I did all the quests he gave me and I was sick of his contempt attitude. Felt good to easily kill him with my alliance. :)

Wanted to check here if the Raid part still applied to be able to get credit for the kill. People said they had soloed it, but that doesn't mean you weren't in a raid with someone who was in Dalaran.

So I tried it and it worked without being in a raid, it's solo-soloable :)

yeah i just did it at lvl 79 by myself and not in a party of any kind. some orc came by and ganked me on the first try after i killed both the dogs and had almost kill nathanos. i got him on the second try

Soloed as an 80 moonkin in lower item level Northrend resto epics/blues (resto is main spec, I go balance for soloing). Pretty much outright destroyed him. Very easy to do at 80 with decent gear.
