To find Gorlash, leave Booty Bay from the tunnel, then head to the east coast. You should pass through an area with Bloodsail mages/swashbucklers. As soon as you hit the beach, start running north. You should see Gorlash walking around in the ocean (he's huge and hard to miss).

Gorlash is a level 47 elite giant, so come prepared. Two shamans (mid to late 40s) did this with no problems. Probably a good idea to bring some healing. Total time from getting quest, finding and killing Gorlash, then returning is maybe ten minutes.

The directions that Ormriss listed are correct. Level 48 ece specc'd mage was able to solo, advice is to keep him at a distance, he was hitting me for 500 damage or so each hit. No other mobs nearby so no accidental aggroes =D

Did this quest with the help of a 66 Rouge. But before I had the quest I took down Gorlash solo as a 43 Warlock Demo specc'd. Sent in VW DoT'd him and then kept fearing when he got close. Had to use one Healthstone and one Mana potion. a Couple Mana taps and a bandage. Trick is to keep him feared and DoT'd and u'll take him out slowly but surely

If you're a rogue with decent level but are still unable to solo him (he hits really hard) you can gouge kite him to the BB guards who will kill him for ya :)
you should still get the quest item, gold, xp etc..

I was able to solo this quest as a 47 Hunter. I sent in my pet and healed him after every 2 Arcane Shots. My pet died with Gorlash's last blow.

Soloed him as a lvl 46 Protection pala. just put seal of light on him and on yourself, and heal urself when u get low on hp and he will be no problems

kited him as a shammy (along w/ the other 3) pull him w/ lightning bolt at max range then just keep throwing down earthbind & searing totem, as well as frost shock now & then and get him to the guards, he goes down in about 3 seconds

The directions are precise. And he's definitely hard to miss.

If you have sucky bracers and could use those , or if you're just lazy and impatient, you could kite him back to the entrance of the Booty Bay entrance. The goblins will take care of him.

Gorlash can rooted, stunned, slowed and novaed. Take caution to stay clear of the Bloodsail mobs. You might outrun them too but you might be slowed as well.

Soloed the quest with my lvl 39 afflitcion warlock.

Just spam Curse of Exahaustion.. dmg him with Voidwalker (not imp or u lose aggro)) and Corruption.
at 60% run to bb and the guards will do most of the job... While he´s neted by the guards do dmg to him and you get the loot.

Can be soloed at 48-50.
And there's always lower level characters that wants to have this quest done, so just hit the general chat one time if you are just some levels under 50 and maybe you will get a healer on the hook

Did it as a 46 Tauren Druid, rooted him first spammed some spells until oom then innervated spammed some more and finally finished him off in bear form. Not to much of a challenge. Good luck with the quest:)

I just completed this as a 47 demonology warlock and it was a walk in the park. I just sent my voidwalker after him at the start then when he died I casted fel domination and got my voidwalker back out and sent him in. Did some fears and set my DoT curses and then just casted drain life until he was dead. Pretty simple considering his level. Hope this helps out you warlocks out there =cD

Solo'd as lvl 44 affliction warlock. Just DoT, DoT, DoT, Fear, drain life, repeat. I suffered no damage and the fear spell stuck each tiime. Not sure how other classes do, but a warlock >lvl 43 should have no prob.

Soloable by a 46 Feral Druid.

I will admit my gear is somewhat twinked, but nothing too outrageous. 3,480 health in Dire Bear Form, 24% crit.

Start in caster form, Entangling Root, Moonfire. Recast Roots when the timer is almost up, and repeat this until he's maybe at 85-90%. After that just wait out until Roots is almost up, cast Regrowth and Rejuv on your and pop Bear Form tossing a (Feral) Faerie Fire on him (don't Enrage).

Demoralize him as soon as you can. Bash him right after, and begin Mauling. When YOU are at about half health gather up about 30-40 Rage and hit your Enrage + Frenzied Regeneration. Auto-swing until it's over. Then start the mauling again.

After that just make sure you keep blowing your CDs (Bash and Enrage primarily), and always keep Demoralizing Roar and Faerie Fire on him. If it starts getting close at the end, you can always pop out, root him, run out of melee, and heal. And if you're Tauren, of course War Stomp first thing when you pop out. ;]

It's a lot easier than all these words make it seem. Just make sure you've been stacking your agi and stam like you should. :P

Piece of cake.
I soloed him today as a 45 frost mage, with decent but not quite twink gear. It took just over a minute, he never got close enough to hit me, and I still had all of my cooldowns, except I had to use a Mana Jade. Didn't even have all my latest spells. Basically, just make sure you have full mana and all your cooldowns (just in case =D), and then proceed to Frostbolt 'til he gets close, then Frost Nova, blink away, repeat. You can Cone of Cold and blink if you need to, works quite well in the event of Frost Nova resisting.
If you're REALLY low level, just kite him to BB with rank 1 frost bolt... Goblins'll kill him.

As of 2.3 Gorlash is a level 42 elite. I solo'd him as a 41 feral druid by cat dpsing, bear stun, entangling roots, heal, repeat.

A level 35 warrior and 39 priest were barely able to solo him by use of psychic scream, shadow word: pain and lots of mind flay + slowing on the warrior's side. It was totally worth it though because the quest reward is awesome :)

Something strange happened to his lvl when I was fighting him. I attacked him and he was lvl 42, but at some point the number switched to 41.

After he died I looted him and looked at his lvl again and it was back to 42.

Have no clue what that was all about.

Just soloed this as a 43 Subtlety Rogue. I died on the first attempt, but this is what I did for the second.

Opened up with Premed + Garrote, followed by a Hemorrhage, Ghostly Strike and a 5 point Expose Armor.
I popped evasion and then spammed Hemo and Eviscerate for the remainder of the fight. I did have to use a potion, Preparation, and Blind + Bandage but it wasn't to bad of a fight.

as a 45 pally he did take a little bit if time to take down, hit me for about 120 a hit, popped 1 pot, but with blessing of light active your heals alone can be enough to take everything(wish i had thought of that at the time)

I couldn't really manage him solo as a fairly geared 45 ret paladin. I tried once with SoC, stuns and judgements, didn't work so well and he quickly outdamaged my heals. Tried again with 1h + shield + seal of light, but my 1h skill was low from not having used it for so many levels. I found a warrior to group with, healed him through it easily (level 44 arms warrior with a 2h).

So I didn't have much trouble duo, but couldn't manage myself as ret.

I soloed him as a 45 ret pally. His strongest attack seems to be stomp that does a lot of dmg, but I found that if I kept him moving he didn't do it as often. Still a tough fight though. Ended up with only 200 hp (with a bubble + heal in the middle of the fight) and no mana.

Probably a good idea to play it safe and bring a friend.

44 Combat Swords Rogue.. popped evasion once I saw how hard he was hitting and just kept up the Slice and Dice and Blade Fury. I had to use a Superior Healing Potion one he dropped me to about 500hp, but after that it was a piece of cake.

CAKE as a 44 frost mage... 2 novas and just frostbolt/fireblast spam. Over prepared VASTLY. Unless you are a holy priest or something should be cake... if you are a holy priest a group shouldn't be to hard to find.

Not immune to any stuns as far as I can tell, used blind, cheap shot, kindey shot, not sure on gouge, I expect he is also not immune.

You can do this quest as a 35 hunter with a bit of luck, requires you to kite him for a fairly long while though, and to clear some space of bloodsail people to get him to the road.

If you do decide to do this, don't go to booty bay unless you've already done a lot of damage to him, guards are 65 and will easily do over half the damage to him if you're not careful.

Gorlash was very easy. Solo'd him as a lvl.48 rogue (subtlety). Quickly add combo points to take advantage of your maximum finishing moves. Apply Hemorrhage freqeuntly and he'll go down in less than a minute. I only had 'Deadly Poison 3' buffed on my mace + sword and I used one health potion. It was like fighting a warrior. I prob could've done him @ lvl.44 or 40 since I'm still using blue weapons from those lvl's! ***CAKE WALK***

Solo'd as a Protection Paladin. Judged Light and used SoL, had to use a mana pot to heal myself. I used the advice that he uses Slam less if you keep him moving and used BoP early to heal myself. My gear is excellent for my level, however I didn't use Shield or Lay on Hands, so if you're wandering around in greens he'd likely still be soloable.

For everyone who's having a bit of trouble, remember this;
Although he looks hard, he ain't! Just stay out the way of his hit, he does hit hard!
The best thing to do is frost him, or root him on the spot, and just keep thacking him until he goes down!

And take a potion, you'll probably need it!

i'm going to say this right now, ALL SHAMANS CAN SOLO THIS QUEST. all you have to do is frost shock kite him to the BB gaurds will dispose of him. and don't worry bout running out of mana.

Solo'd as a 44 ret paladin. Judged Light, used SoJ. The frequent stuns helped stop his bit hit or give you room, I didn't even have to move him around. Used a sword and shield, though, along with a pot, bubble, and Blessing of Protection.

Soloable as 43 rogue without enchants. But you have to use heavy mageweave bandage when blind him. And protection scroll or potion, just to be sure.
He crits very hard, about ~350, so be prepared.

Just soloed this quest as lvl 41 feral druid. Pulled with FF and kept it up all the time. Just bash early and heal yourself, the cooldown will be over before he die. War stomp helped alot too. Did'nt have to use healing potions, just tank and spank while healing yourself in bearform.

This guys is easy to solo. At least if you are a level 40 hunter.
Just keep up your "Mend Pet" and make sure your shots are cast. "Feign Death" when you over aggro your pet and you should be fine.

This quest is easily soloable as a shammy. Here's how I did it, as an Ele-spec - Enhance will be harder with the lower mana pool, Resto should be on par. Start out with casting Water Walking on yourself, then backing up to max Lightning Bolt range while standing on the ocean. Cast LB, then Frost Shock, & repeat till he's dead. Downranking Frost Shock is a good idea, if mana becomes an issue, as LB is much more mana efficient dmg-wise. Earthbind Totem works as well, but it's not as reliable. Being on the water means no pesky pirates - just don't let him catch up & whack you.

I did this quest Solo as a lvl 39 Hunter.... the trick is to know how to use ur Feign Death if you pull aggro... sure, it can fail but theres plenty other moves to get ur pet the aggro back.

Use mend pet when needed and if ur pet dies u should have weakent him enough that if u fight with ur Traps you should be fine.

36,69 is where I found him

For those that don't know, there is a half buried bottle at the edge of the water around 34, 73 with a note inside that begins a quest at lvl 42. The quest is Message in a Bottle: And as a side note I could not solo this guy at lvl 44 warrior.

Soloable fairly easy as an L43 Shadow Priest. Just pop your shield on, Shadow Form, Vamp Embrace etc and kill him. He isn't immune to Fear so Psychic Scream works, he actually resisted my first one and he still went down fairly easily so you really shouldn't have any problems.

The Ruins of Zul'Mamwe is the place you want to go for this quest. There is literally like 50 or more of these guys ready to kill, but do beware of horde and two patrolling mobs, and maybe the ones with panthers. The drop rate was good, it took maybe 20 minutes total and that's with getting killed three times by two ? hordes.

Solo'd as a level 44 Protection Paladin. Coords are right on, come out of tunnel into STV, and head east to the beach then run north about 100 yards. Can't miss him. Prev post(s) stated he is a level 47 elite but when I took him down he was a level 42 elite. Health wasn't too much of an issue but my mana went real quick.

How I did it ... Righteous Fury, Blessing of Might, Retribution ... when he's in aggro range I hit Seal of Righteousness, Judgement of Light, Consecration then just melee and keep hitting Judgement of Light whenever the cooldown allows. He got me down to `40% health so I hit Divine Shield and Lay on Hands. The Divine Shield protected me from his damage while the Lay on Hands healed me back to 100% health and gave me enough mana to unleash two more Judgements in between melee. From the time I aggroed until the time he dropped was probably about 25 seconds. If you are lower level or can't heal you may want to bring a friend or wait a few levels to do this quest.

I solo him as prot warr lvl 42, not really a problem just fallow the rotation: sheild block -> concussion blow -> sheild wall -> sheild block -> concussion blow and he should be dead by now :P. GL with it.

Easily soloed as 43 frost mage. He hits pretty hard (200-300 with 750 Armor) but he can be kited with Chills, slows, immobilize effects etc.

So if you can't get out of his melee range and still do damage, you're win...

Gorlash, a lvl 42 elite, got 6K+ hp. He is very hard to solo. I indeed said hard, and not impossible, becuz my lvl 42 priest solod him.

Kiting him is indeed the best option for a spellcaster. If u r a priest, Psychic Scream can really help you!

Soloed as a level 40 protection Paladin. Some blues from instances (RFD/RFK the highest I had gear from), wearing mostly random drops though. Never managed to take more than 400 hp off my health at any one time thanks to blessing/judgment of light.

Easily solo'd as a ret pally, he took to my Hammer Of Justice which helped immensley, used one round of holy light, had him down in 2-3 minutes maybe. Fun quest, got nearly 1300 rested xp for the big thing =)

Solo'd this as a 41 balance druid. Just keep him rooted, keep a couple of HoTs up, hit him with your Boomkin skillz, and Bob's your uncle.

Really easy. Just keep you DoT's going and shadow bolt until he comes toward you then fear drain his life fear and drain life as he comes toward you! and your done!

Soloed on my 39 feral druid. I don't think this would be possible without the heirloom gear i had. I pounced in cat form and then dps-ed him down to 50%, occasionally changing to caster form to cast regrowth and rejuvenation, then I went into bear form as I was low on mana and used survival instincts to increase my health downed a healing potion and took him down. It was pretty close but was an epic fight :P

Easily soloed him at lvl 41 as a retri paladin, heirloom arcanite reaper and spaulders of valor, even the haste trinket
no need for bubble nor lay on hands, a repentance once with a holy light was the only healing I needed, kept stuns up and down within the minute
Sure the items may be a vital part of doing it easy but with atleast some knowlegde of the class your leveling this shouldnt be a hard mob to solo.

Did this on my level 40 Shadow Priest with an unusualy strategy, but not a hard one.

I just started as normal, I pulled with a mind blast, put up my dots and VE, mind flayed, and then feared. I tried to keep this up but I went OOM with him at ~8%. So, I waited until I had enough to fear, feared him, hit levitate (get that glpyh, it rocks), and kited him around over the water until he died from dots, using VE to keep him aggroed when I had no mana to reaply dots.

I had to bandage during a fear, but all-in-all it wasn't that hard.

Soloed as 41 feral druid with average gear. Just stayed in bear form for most of it, popped out to regrowth/rejuv twice but other than that no pots or CD's.

He's at {36 - 70} LvL 42 Elite. Took him out as a LvL 42 hunter with a tanking pet. Fairly easy kill. He's got 6604 HP

Soloed this as a level 38 Balance specced druid, was fairly easy. All you need to do is, to play it really safe - let your DOTS run on him, and just root him - wrath spam if you feel confident. Done with Wrath glyph and IS glyph, with two Herloom items and rest green besides staff.

Soloed as a level 40 druid with tank gear on. Started off with a pounce-shred combo, then raked and clawed my way up to 5 points before putting the finishing move DoT on him. Morphed into bear, turned on Survival Instincts when I got low and healed near max (Healing Touch + Regrowth is usually enough), then went back into cat and repeated the cycle until he died.

Dire Bear Form helps. Survival Instincts is almost mandatory.

Solo'd as a 45 Shadow Priest. I stupidly entered the fight without realising I was at half mana (I had just buffed myself) and I was just able to bring him down. So a lower level priest might be able to bring him down too.

I soloed him with my lvl44 hunter, with beast mastery specc. it was a piece of cake if you just remember to use beastial wrath and rapid fire, and remember to mend pet. i used aspect of the viper :)

this quest is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY too easy for hunters. the guy is a lvl 42 elite but he was an easy kill. i did this as a lvl 43 hunter. the moron targeted my pet while i used everything in my arsenal and the occasional .

Its just about as easy for any class that has minions and stealth or healing abilities. no chance this even comes close to a group-required quest

Soloed as a lvl39 frost mage. Easy task. At least if you're lucky with frostbite proc.

Just use Frostbolt for main dps. Frost Nova every time you can. When you run OOM, use mana gem.
Frost Nova, Icy Veins, Evocation, and continue with Frostbolt/Frost Nova.

Soloed with my lvl 40 full frost mage. Was not easy, most because I became OOM too fast.
First I popped Mana Shield and Ice Barrier, get max range, popped icy veins and frostbolt, frostbolt, frostbolt... when he gets in melee range I used frost nova, blink to get range again and more frostbolts. At this time my mana pool was low, so I popped cold snap to reset my frost cooldowns, throw frost nova again and evocation.
With my mana pool full again I just finished, but he breaks my ice barrier with 2 hits (500 dmg absorb).

Very easily killed as a 45 Shadow priest. and he is just right of the beach in the water i hit shift V and saw his health bar so i could easily see him. hope that helps

Soloed With my lvl 40 Moonkin. Real easy: Entangling Roots followed by Starfire. Rinse and repeat (Oh, and obviously keeping Insect Swarm and Moonfire on him). Took about 45 seconds to take him down.

It was close, but it's doable as a 43 enhance shaman. Keep up lightning shield, use stormstrike then earth shock when it's available, and heal yourself when you have to. He hits pretty hard, critting for over 400. When you get low on mana, use water shield. I had to use a health potion, so make sure you've got some.

Oh wow, just thought of this: DON'T FORGET YOU HAVE TOTEMS! I did the fight without totems. Would've been easier with them.... =/

Soloed as a level 40 resto spec druid. Stayed in true form, faerie fired him, quickly cast regrowth and rejuvenation on self before switching to cat form. Used a superior healing potion midway through fight, before refreshing regrowth and rejuvenation. Had to innervate to have enough mana to keep the two HoTs up throughout the fight.

soloable as 39 frost mage. Popped a health pot because I suck at kiting, and used evocation during one of the frost novas. I forgot to conjure a mana gem, but I managed to kill him.

So yeah, pro mage tip if you guys don't already know this: kite him.

Soloed as 44 frost mage, very easy, ice shield up, icy veins, frost bolt, got close, frost nova, ran back a lil and more frostbolts, got close again, popped cold snap, frost nova, 2 more frost bolts and dead, only hit me once but was fully absorbed.

Solo'd as a 39 Lock. Had the 5 pieces of BoA gear, jsut whipped out the voidwalker and chain feared/dotted him up. Had to pop a potion near his death as fear was breaking quite fast. Not overly difficult.

As a 40 rogue, the only thing that made this challenging was pulling him out of the water. As a rogue trying to solo an elite a few levels above me, I obviously wanted to get the jump on him, so using a ranged attack from the shore to pull him obviously wouldn't be smart. I never realized how difficult it is for melee (especially rogues) to fight underwater. Other than that, this fight did not present me with any problems.

Soloed as L39 affliction lock with VW.

1. Send VW
2. Let him get a couple of hits and aggro
3. Dot with Immolate, CoA and Corruption
4. Life Tap
5. Drain Life
6. By now, you should probably get aggro;
7. Curse of Exhaustion
8. Fear
9. Fear and Curse of Exhaustion -lock him
10. Sacrifice if it gets ugly.

Made it without pots or anything like that. Piece of cake :)

To do it with a warlock :

- Open with an immolate
- Corruption
- CoA
- Fear
- Repeat

He shouldn't hit you, when the fear wears off just re-cast as soon as he's in range, if you do get hit, channel drain life when he has been re-feared.

Did this as a level 37 warlock using this method.

very easy , done as 40 afly warlock:

first be ensure that you got a healthstone(rank4-5)
a voidwalker
improved fear talent
and the bane talent so you can take mana from your pet:

well the fight isnt a 80 icc encounter , in the other hand , for players that are new to affliction is preety hard:

we begin casting dots(demage over time spells)(corruption, curse of agony)
when he is almost touching us we use fear
we drain life him while he feared and he will come back , we fear him again
if we ran out of mana we life tap(while he is in fear phase) and drain life should restore the life; we altough can bane our pet

repeat the process a few times , dont be ashamed of the low dps , he gets killed to easy

oh i forgot; if we have nightfall , we must use that shadowbolt , we cant miss it ;

This quest is still doable, i was able to pick up the quest, kill the Giant, and return the chest in for a reward.
He is just hard to find... he walks up and down the coast near the oil refinery.

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Well, it's certainly still obtainable - I picked it up today (9/23/11) while finishing up the Gurubashi/Zandalari questline (yes, I know that took me long enough =P). I haven't been able to *locate* the giant yet, tho. I'll update this if I manage to find him and turn in the quest. For now, I'm considering it 'accidentally still obtainable but not submitable'. Sadness, for a completion ^&*!@ like me, tho =(

This is an obsolete version of O baú do capitão. You'll note both quests have the same name/objective/rewards, but the current quest is for level 31-33, while the outdated one is for level 42-45. Many zones changed levels at the start of Cataclysm, leading to quests with the same name but different level requirements.

The quest is not obsolete. It is still obtainable and completable.
I am level 100 going around doing old quests as I get bored of Draenor from time to time.
I found Gorlash walking in the water at 53.77, 67.57 at the Wild Shore

I used to sail a ship from here all the way to Ratchet, in Kalimdor. I was a successful captain with a sterling reputation.

Until...

Those cursed sea giants ruined me! They smashed my ship, killed my crew, and set me on a lifeboat to Booty Bay. And one of the giants, Gorlash, stole my Captain's Chest. He said he wanted it for a snuffbox. The nerve!

I hear Gorlash wanders the coast east of here. Find him and get back my chest! Do that, and you'll have earned a captain's gratitude.
