The provided item (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=13752) is a 10-second targeted channel on Ras. The range is only about 30 yards, so you have to get lucky or have some way of avoiding his fears and knockbacks. If you're healing or tanking the run, make sure you have someone who can help tank/heal while you turn him human.

When the spell is finished, Ras becomes unattackable for a short time, then heals himself and becomes human. He still has the same spells and abilities, but you can now loot his head! (You keep the Soulbound Keepsake when you turn the quest in, but I'm not aware of anything that changes if you turn him human.)

The Soulbound Keepsake is not consumed upon turning in the quest.

As far as I remember, turning Ras into a human removed his inmunity to ice.

I decided I would give it a try at soloing this (70 Rogue). Everytime I began to near the end of the spell, he would cast some form of stun or interrupt on me. However, the Barov Peasant Caller saved the day! I simply walked up and had him attack me, summoned the peasants, and started the spell. With the peasants distracing him, I was able to finish it before he got around to interrupting me!

I did the quest last night and his attacks no longer interupt the channeling of the spell. His melee was hitting me (plate) for 150-200 while I channeled the spell.

Turning Ras Frostwhisper into a human for this quest still makes his death count towards the Scholomance achievement.

i did this quest earlier today and as an 80 DK i found it very easy as almost every spell missed except the knockback but he couldnt freeze me so if you decide to level to 80 first its so much easier, or as i did it on an alt go in with a full group(tank,healer,3dps)make sure a dps has quest) and tank and healer do their jobs and the dps dont damage him until he is a human after a dps uses the book. also only one person in group needs to transform him as all can loot his head

Find Ras Frostwhisper in the Scholomance. When you have found him, use the Soulbound Keepsake on his undead visage. Should you succeed in reverting him to a mortal, strike him down and recover the Human Head of Ras Frostwhisper. Take the head back to Magistrate Marduke.

There is but one task remaining, <name>. Confront the lich, Ras Frostwhisper, in his lair.

Use the power of the keepsake against the beast - be unrelenting in your actions! Weather the blows that the flailing beast will surely bring down upon you. Do not give in to the pain!

When the ritual is complete, Ras will be mortal once more. It is at that point that he must be slain. Strike him down and take his human head.
