To help out with the add you should have a hunter around lay a frost trap so that Shy-Rotam's mate does not tear you apart. Most hunters will gladly accompany you as the mate makes a nice pet since it is pretty rare pet.

Tried this with two shamans, me with a 60 restoration-spec shaman and my brother with a 59 elemental-spec. We did ok starting off, though we did pull an add thanks to Shy-Rotam's fear. It seemed like she used that every 15 seconds :) Anyways, once she hits about 50% health, she summons her mate, also a level 60 elite. This is where we wiped.

I scoured the web for strategies, and read a suggestion that said hunters could start the fight, then kite her back to Everlook and have the guards there help kill her. Taking that into account, we tried again. This time, I tried kiting her with Frost Shock. It was incredibly successful.

Frost Shock slows the target for eight seconds, but only has a cooldown of six seconds. What I did was cast Frost Shock to start off the fight, then ran towards the road. If you use this strategy, note that you'll want to clear the frostsabers from the road beforehand. I simply ran down the road, turning to cast Frost Shock whenever it's cooldown finished. It's worth noting that at this point, I had about 5400 max mana, as well as the Elemental talents that increase Shock damage and decrease Shock mana cost. Even with all that I still had to use a superior mana potion a ways down the road. I was able to stay way ahead of Shy-Rotam, and well out of range of her fear. Not only that, but once she got down to 50% health, she called for her mate, who did not appear. My guess is that he spawns back at Shy-Rotam Rock. I was so far off that he either never caught up or did not give chase. Regardless, he was not a factor, and once Shy-Rotam got to around 10%, I dropped a Tremor Totem (to break Fear) and closed to finish the fight with melee and Earth Shock.

My brother only used one Frost Shock, and that was at my suggestion, as a way for me to save a little mana on the road. There was also a level 57 Alliance hunter who saw us and fired on Shy-Rotam a few times, but his damage was fairly small, mainly Concussive Shot (I assume he was trying to avoid pulling aggro). After killing her, I still had about 800 mana and about 70% health. The removal of her mate was the dealmaker here, so I recommend kiting her down the road if you can.

Horrible drop rate on the Sacred Meat. I was farming Frostsabers all over that area for 45 minutes without it dropping. I dropped the quest, too frusterating.

Successfully completed this quest series with a 53 Troll Priest, 55 Undead Warlock, and 57 Blood Elf Mage.

The Sacred Meat took about 15 kills before dropping.

When I did it, we pulled her to the other end of the frozen pond. This far away from her cave her mate cannot hear her call. So we killed her and not her add. (very easy this way)
Tremor totems help a lot. (fyi)

I did it (with help of a 64 lock) at 57. Took her down real quick. She didn't summon her friend... oddly. We didn't go more than 20 yards from where she's summoned

Solo'd, warlock level 60. Cheers for the tip about taking her out to the lake, her mate didn't spawn for me either. Plenty of chain fear and dots did the trick.

I'm looking for either an alliance player who has two accounts or a kindly horde on Bonechewer who can summon Shy-Rotam so I can tame Sian-Rotam in winterspring. I would love to tame and raise this cat, so if a fellow hunter wanted to help me out that would be great. I'm willing to pay 100 gold, or help powerlevel (loot runs) alts if you are alliance.

This quest was kindof tough toke my 56shammy, 62war, and 54mage to kill both of them. Fear really became a pain after my group agroed four others. The mage was a huge help to the group with his frostnova. But clear the place before you use the meat cause otherwise i garinty a wipe.

Ursius and Brumeran are no longer Elites as of todays patch, which means its a possibility that Shy-Rotam and her Mate are no longer Elite aswell. I'm not to that part in the quest string yet but will edit this post accordingly if no one else has the info by then.

*edit* Confirmed, Shy-Rotam and her Mate have both been reduced to Non-elites.

As of 2.3..
She went down really fast against me.. 58pally, and a 57 hunter. I got Feared, but the hunter's pet pretty much took her out. There was no ADD cat. Either she didn't get a chance to summon her mate, or Blizz nerfed it with 2.3.

The rock was on the ground between two torchs, under a rock overhang. The rock did not "light" up. I just took the meat close to the rock, then right clicked it. The tiger appeared. Easy kill for a 60 Mage.

Tried her several times in order to tame her mate. Says she calls for him, but he never comes. The quest seems to be bugged for alliance.

She is not elit and it doesn't spawn any elits since patch 2.3. She is just a lvl 60 now..

Just wanted to confirm post-patch 2.3 that she DOES still summon her mate. Neither is elite anymore, but they do both appear.

I'm Alliance and I saw both of them, so either Blizzard fixed the non-summoning part or previous posters have been killing her too quickly.

*Update*
I've now done this quest on several characters post-2.3 and can confirm that she does not always have time to summon Sian-Rotam before she dies. When I fought her, she was usually able to call him, simply because most of my characters were underlevelled and lacking in anti-fearing techniques.

Just did this string of quests not 1 reputation point. Ursius is 56, Brumeran 57 and Rotan 60, none elite. Around 40k xp for the 3 quests, choice of the above weapons and you receive a hunter's insignia - a neck medallion with +sta (green).

I only did it for rep so very disappointed. Before the last part (Rotan) it said I would be very repected with my people yet, lo and behold, nada!

Soloed as a 56 prot paladin. Killing the level 59 sabers to get the meat was easy, they have a really fast attack speed so they tear themselves up against a reckoning aura and holy shield. There's still the emote "Shy-Rotam roars out for her mate" but he never showed up for me.

You get 11,900 XP for the quest, but the follow up to it Past Endeavors is just a reward step where you get 4,750 XP (post-2.3) making the quest worth 16,650 XP total.

Took me over an hour to get the meat, but when I did she was really easy to kill. Non-elite and about as hard to kill as a normal frostsabre. She still summoned her mate, but after an hour of being attacked mid-fight by Frostsabre Stalkers there was no real challenge there ~_^

If you can bother to get past the initial tedious grinding stage to get the meat, then the actualy killing of Shy-Rotam is very, very easy.

I have to agree as a 57 hunter took me about 45 min to get the meat but I was able to get my pet to tank both, and when my pet got feared and Shy-Rotam came after me I used a frost trap, ran and let the pet take her out. same with her mate, which I wish I had tamed but, didn't :(

the add still spawns.
i got the meat after third kill of a Frostsaber Huntress.
the quest was very easy as a 57druid, just took both out in cat form, didn't have to heal or anything.

stone is at 49,9 in Winterspring
Meat can be looted from cats nearby.

TAMING her requires a freezing trap and an immediate tame after that. She fears too often and breaks the tame otherwise, at least in my experience. Just trap her and be ready to start taming immediately. I didn't see her spawn her mate, and I tried to tame her three times on the same spawn, finally getting her on the third try.

The trick to getting the mate to spawn seems to be waiting a little bit while fighting Shy-Rotam. I found that if you killed Shy-Rotam too quickly, the mate wouldn't spawn, but if you waited a little while before killing her then it would. This is probably some bug left over from when they were elite, since it would've taken much longer to kill Shy-Rotam, giving it enough time to spawn the mate.

okay, just to clear this up: at least three of you have said 49,9 for the coordinates.
by saying that you're actually saying 49,90 as opposed to 49,09.
To avoid confusion I've cleared this up in case others here know their correct units.

Soloed as a 57 enhancement shaman. I frost shock kited her to the middle of the lake, then popped shamanistic rage and went to town. Fear did not cause any problems. 11900 exp.

this quest *!@#ed me off like you wouldnt friggin believe, both she and her mate fears... made me agro 3 more lvl 56 cubs... even with two lvl 60s and three lvl 56s on me i still soloed this kinda easy with my lvl 56 prot pally. but yes the coords are right on and you will most likely get the meat by killing some of the kitties on the way to the stone...
get ready to be fear spammed tho... frustrating as hell

If you still have the Glimmering Mithril insignia from the Blacksmith quest. It does grant immunity to fear for 30 seconds

If like me your sick of reading 300 posts about how it has lost its elite tag or its now alliance too, read on.

Stone is found at 49,09 under the massive Pride Rock type thing, between 2 torches. Got the meat from one of the cubs after 3 kills, popped Shy-Rotam, DoT > Fear > repeat > dead. It seems if you keep her feared she wont summon her mate at all, she didnt for me.

Very easy kill as she spawns in a place where there are no adds. She is level 60, non-elite.

If you are attempting to tame Shy-Rotam, but finding that her Fear is a problem, try fighting Fear with Fear. Hit her with a good "Scare Beast" spell to send her running, then set up a Freezing Trap and hit her with the tame as she runs around. I had plenty of time to complete the tame using this approach.

first you need to kill the sabers around her area till you get a piece of meat that you use to summon her, then the is a stone in a middle of the area you put it on. then she spawns and its a easy solo, and if you kill fast enought the add won't spawn. fast easy exp.

ran around for an hour killing regular cats, first cub i killed dropped the sacred meat, so I guess I'd suggest you kill the cubs too. shy-rotam's pretty cake, couple crits as a 59 rogue and she was dead.

With 4 of my chars, I got the sacred meat from the two Frostsaber cubs, to the right of the stone where u have to place the meat... I thought Shy-Rotam and her mate were elite? They weren't when I did it with my mage toon, (2.4 patch), they were as easy as pie

That wasnt that hard did it with my 55 druid just make sure u heal when needed, start with a regrowth to be sure, get ur cp up to 5 for a rip with mangle up by then first cat should be going down soon enough when she summons mate bark and heal up and do the same to him

took me half an hour or more to get that piece of &*!@meat, it frustrating, it doesn't add any challenge to the game it just grinds my gears. as someone said before, all frostsabers are made of meat, what's the problem by taking a knife and cut that peice of meat so you can finish the quest.
once you got the emat, place it on the stone, not hard since patch 2.3 :)

Just completed as Priest 57 Shadow. Meat (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12733) got from first http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=7434. But when I was killing Shy-Rotam, after few seconds Shy-Rotam appers again... So I was killing both at the same time. Don't know if this is normal, but killed both (just SW:P, VE, VT, Fear, MB and MF). Second Shy-Rotam was immune to Fear :-( Quest completed after first kill...

BTW: as priest you can use Fear Ward buff on yourself to prevent fear you...

I was in the area, without the quest, helping a friend with the quest, having helped someone else do it a week or two prior. We got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat to drop surprisingly quickly. He summoned the female bear and although I told him to draw her away from the cave, he didn't, so we got to fight both of them. Well we took them both down and then continued to farm the area for xp. I soon noted that he has picked up more Sacred Frostsaber Meat and is heading back to the altar. I asked if the quest didn't complete and he said no. Again we fight both of them and my friend noted that this time the quest had completed. Just as we finished off the male, an Alliance 70 showed up and asked if we could summon Shy-Rotam agan as he wanted to tame her. ??? Well sure enough, my friend soon had another Sacred Frostsaber Meat drop and he summoned her again and let the 70 tame her. So this activity appears repeatable until the quest is turned in.

I soloed with my 56 lock. easy enough. getting the meat was more of a problem than actually killing her. Get the meat by killing any of the other sabers around, low drop rate. after summoning her on the stone in front of the cave run to the other side of the frozen lake and and fight her there because after a while she will call to her mate, but he wont attack you if you're near the other side of the lake. She fears by the way.

i completed this quest relatively easily as a 55 hunter and a group consisting of a 53 dreinie shaman. we fought the mate and still beat them without dying. the drienie shaman i was pared with healed me while my pet and i took aggro and did all the damage. once u get the meat the rest of the quest (killing shy-rotam) is easy... just another kill the boss quest.

Took me about 30 minutes to get the meat, then solo'ed it ( 56 Sub Rogue) on my own, sky-rotam came running at me, i just spammed Hemorrhage on him, used Envasion and and took it down in the space of 2 minutes, he's mate come running at me then I just used Vanish, all in all.... Sky-Rotam is easy depending on how you plan to take him down that is, but getting the meat... Is so frustrating...

¤ You will need to acquire to summon Shy-Rotam. This drops from the Frostsabers surrounding Frostsaber Rock.

¤ Once you have the Sacred Frostsaber Meat, go to the Stone of Shy-Rotam, which is the gray stone in between two blue flames directly underneath he huge rock that Rivern Frostwind is standing on top of. There you can use your Sacred Frostsaber Meat to summon Shy-Rotam.

¤ Shy-Rotam is a level 60 non-elite, but she uses often, so keeping her CCed is a good strategy to prevent her from making you flee.

¤ Also, in order to prevent Shy-Rotam from fearing you into more mobs, I suggest dragging her back into the big dark area on the ground that looks like a frozen over or dried up pond, since there are no mobs in this area to attack you if you go too close.

I encountered no "mate" or other mobs using this strategy and had no problem soloing her as a Level 57 Human Rogue, but just in case, be sure to bring some potions and maybe some scrolls to buff up if you can afford it.

Wow this qeuest was very easy, i soloed it at lvl 56(im a lock) didnt have to use fear or anything just killed shy-rotan and then bye the time she died her "mate" came out and was a easy kill to :) and it only took me acople kill's to get that meat you need for a summon

I got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12733) from a 58 Frostsaber Huntress near the summoning stone (found at 49,9). I think any type of Frostsaber can drop it, though.

She fears, as well as does a bleed effect. Not too hard though, just be careful, because she summons an add of equal power (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=10741) after getting her weakened down quite a bit.

GLITCH ALERT. If you die on your first try, you come back and they're both there. If you kill the Mate first, then get Shy-Rotam low, the mate COMES BACK! I don't know if you can prevent this from happening if you kill Shy-Rotam first or not, so just try not to die the first time! Luckily I'm a Druid, so I could heal myself.

Got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat from a 59 Frostsaber Huntress, also near the stone.

Managed to solo this as 55 Dwarf Hunter, marksman with a 55 pet cat. However I did use quite a few scrolls, lvl IV mostly, both on me and my cat.

On lvl 55 this q gives 11.9k xp

If ur hunter, remeber to put an trap infront of were ur standing when ur going to summon it.

As a 58 UD Rogue, I soloed Shy-Rotam by pulling her down the road towards Everlook. By the time you hit 50% her mate will have a decent amount of travel to reach you. Best to blow all your cooldowns and have health pots available. Once Shy-Rotam was killed her mate despawned shortly after.

This quest rewards 11,900 XP and the quest right after it (one where you don't have to do anything) award 4,750 XP and a pretty decent stamina necklace. I think this quest is well worth the time.

this quest was easily soloable by a 58 druid...i had just gotten done my yeti quest...so i used one of those to help me...shy-rotam attacked it while i was fleeing...she didnt summon her mate at all. took a while for the meat to drop though...got it off of a huntress. was the easiest 11900xp ever!

Solo'd her on a 56 Frost mage.

I placed the meat down and backed away... and summoned my water elemental. When she got closer I nova'd her and backed away some more. My elemental and I hit her pretty well until she feared us and broke out. She then summoned her mate. We didn't break out of the fear soon enough and we died.

I rezzed, came back and she was still standing there... summoned my elemental again and started to frost bolt her. I got a couple lucky good frostbolts which nova'd her in place. She never even reached us, nor did she summon her mate.

If you have a lot of points into freezing skills and shatter/crit skills, you should be able to hit her from afar and kill her.

soloed as a level 56 feral druid. i found using the mech yeti from an earkierquest helped also i got luck on six demon bag and it spawned the fel hunter. these helped alot. BTW this drop rate is terrible.

Solo'd as a 53 BM hunter. I had to use bestial wrath+intimidation and a pot at the end (I got feared into the nearby cubs). She did summon her mate but I used scare beast on him and it lasted long enough for me to finish her off. A pretty hard battle but the exp was mine in the end.

I had to kill around 15 sabers before the sacred meat dropped.

Soloed this as a 55 holy pally. Quick note i had some cloth blues from BRD but most of my gear was greens i found on ah. stacking stam and int. I have +spellpower enchants on my weap,wrists,and hands with an adepts elixer totaling 171 + spellpower. Started off fight with SoW/JoW, cons, HoJ, then a quick Holy Shock. she herself wasnt doing that much dmg to me, i was throwing a quick Flash every-now-and-then. Then it got hairy when she started to Fear me...ALOT...about every 10 seconds or so i was feared, luckily i didnt aggro any other mobs, i tried staying near the back of the "cave". Keeping the SoW/JoW on her was crucial, spamming cons every 7 secs and Holy Shock, then throwing the Flash i was around 60% hp/ 50% mana the whole time. At 50% she called her mate, i was totally thrown off by this because i didnt look here for any tactics. I pretty much ignored the mate until i got her down. I was at 45% hp/ 20% mana when she died. Due to the spamming of cons her mate was about 70%hp so i used the same concept with him as i did with her. kept SoW/JoW on him spammed cons and HS Flash here and there. Took a total of 15 mins to take both of em down. Amazing accomplishment for me felt great.

did it as lvl 54 retri pala,(i used bubble 1 time else i just used cos and art of war and jugdement and crusader strike)solo'ed shy, and her add/(soulmate) :) and after that i pulled a frostsaber because when her (soulmate) feared me(ofc i killed the frostsaber i ran into), i had use cos and i got retri aura, so he died, and i ran straight into, 1 of them! btw hopeless droprate taks a hell lot time, it's just some tiger meat, how can that be rare? when ure fighting against tigers/frost sabers? and it's dropping tiger meat nearly every time?;D, but frostsaber meat can't, lol, very odd Q!

Indeed this chain is for both factions now :)

It took me ages to get the Sacred Frostsabers meat... and to locate the rock thing, but thats just me :)

By the way the rock is underneath the massive cliff where the winterspring tiger trainer guy is.

Easily soloed as a level 57 shadow preist, got Shy-Rotam down to 50% before she summoned her mate, shielded, finished off Shy-Rotam and then killed her mate.

I love doing things that I probably shouldn't. I tried to tackle this quest on my level 54 BE rogue. On my first attempt, she was about to beat me so I popped Vanish. She ran back to the area behind the table. I went back and used distract and was lucky enough to have Cheapshot hit. I dotted her up and kited her back to the frozen pond. I was able to use my bg trinket on her first fear. After using Evasion, a few lucky Gouge's, a potion, and some swearing, I took her down. While it can be done, I'd recommend a healer of some kind to avoid the stress and swearing :P

Got the Sacred Meat after 2 minutes and it took less than a minute to kill Shy-Rotam with my 56 hunter.
And she didn't summon or fear.

54 Elemental Shaman and a 54 Affliction warlock, took her down relatively easily. Tremor totem is your best friend. Drop rate on the meat is variable, took us maybe 15-20 minutes, considering we had to fight level 58-60 mobs most of the time to get it. Tremor totem + water shield with the Imp out for extra hp. Wasn't too difficult. My shammy only has +220 spell power with Wrath totem out. Lots of misses/resists, be prepared for a tough fight if you're lacking fear resist and healing.

I killed a Frostsaber Huntress at 49.4, 10.8 and got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat. Walked below Frostsaber Rock and you will see the flat stone located at 49.7, 9.8. Stand in front of it and right click on the Sacred Frostsaber Meat in your backpack and she will come at you alone. Easily done in 3 minutes.

I also had trouble with getting sacred saber meat...but I solo'd as a 57 shadow priest, able to defeat her and her mate with no problems, besides farming for over 20 minutes =) good luck!

solod as a 54 frost mage, plenty of misses and resists. basicly nova>>pet nova>>ice barrier>>iceblock when in doubt>>cold snap>>repeat. tho the gift of narru and lifebloom helped :)

I solo'd this as a 54 BM hunter. Just make sure to keep aggro on your pet and you'll do fine. Even with her summoning her mate, it was still a breeze. They are both level 60 and non-elite.

EDIT: Also! It takes a while to find the meat, but everything in the area drops it so just keep killing until you find it.

Just completed this with my level 60 human fury warrior. It was my experience after killing every Frostsaber Huntress, cub and stalker that the sacred meat dropped only from the single level 57 Frostsaber I found located at 50.09,19.39, for those without coordinates it is the valley on the left prior to getting to the summoning stone. Can anyone else verify that this is the only one to drop the sacred meat? I will try this quest with another of my characters and see if this is the case and post it here.

I'm glad my frostsaber mount didn't see what I had to do on this quest. Storm Shadowhoof said this quest would grant me much respect with my fellow night elves, but somehow I doubt that. What race would be into killing its favorite mount? Would humans go out and slaughter wild horses?

That wasn't to bad, only had to kill half or more of her friends for the meat. does seem she would been out there early tho hearing her friends die like that. but thanks to the man who was smart enought to walk to the other side of the pool before killing her. helped alot along with being a lvl 57 affliction warlocks. love those dots

Solo'd as lvl 56 Paladin, only took 700 damage without Divine Prot, got feared twice tho. The hardest part was getting the sacred meat since it took me over 20 kills to get it.

I completed this with my level 57 pally and it was supremely easy. She had time to call her mate but didn't get a chance to Fear me at all. I did, however, use my Mechanical Yeti which is granted by a lower-level quest given in Everlook.

Counts towards the Loremaster of Kalimdor achievement + the quick followup (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5057) is just an "accept + hand in" quest which also counts towards Kalimdor.

This is my first Character and I was a little nervous after reading through the quest info above. I have a level 61 Blood Elf Palidin, I got the Sacred Frostsaber Meat after about 15 kills. Placed the meat/ pulled her over to the pond, killed her no problem!

I noticed that the mate vanished when I killed Shy-Rotam, but that is possibly because he never had a chance to attack me, just ran in and vanished.

As a level 55 hunter and 55 pet (cat) i had no problem with both cat's, i didnt even had to mend my pet once......the hardest part was getting to the altar..the stealthed frostsabre Stalkers where a pain and it took me 18 kills (huntresses ) to get the sacred meat.....good luck !

Did this as a 56 ele shammy, no problems whatsoever. The meat took a little while to drop, I probably cleared about 80% of the mobs there, but when I summoned her I pulled her to about 20 yards in front of the rock and wasn't even feared once. I guess I killed her fast enough for the mate not to spawn, either. Very fast fight, especially if you blow a couple of CDs to boost DPS.

I dont know why rogues are facing problems or using some kind of potions to take down her but in my case i did this as lvl 54 Combat Spec Rogue with no problem. Use evasion-> Adrenilane Rush-> Blade Flurry (Even if 2 3 sabers wont be problem)

i found as a 58 human rogue solo easy to kill, it took me 10 mins to get the meat, then i killed the helper and the quest guy.... i didnt even use my cd's so its pretty easy.

soloed as 60 priest. got out on lake and the mate kept fighting me but the lioness went back to the stone. after killing mate i waited for my mana to come back. had no drink so long wait and kept her selected from a distance hoping no one would kill her but no one was around. once had mana back took her out easily. they both will push you several yards at a time, but fortunately i didnt get pushed into other cats.

Placing the meat of her kin before her will summon Shy-Rotam, in anger.

It seems like it would anger her more that before placing the meat before her, you slaughtered maybe a dozen or so of her kin. Maybe she just needs to pay more attention.

went out of our way to tame this beautiful girl, and although quite happy with her, we did look her up beforehand and were excited for terrifying roar. however, she does not seem to have this ability anymore? in fact we have since tamed a few other elite pets that don't seem to have the special abilities listed on the web. :( did they nerf all the cool elite abilities now or what?

i soloed this as a level 57 paladin ...it wasnt to bad but the fear was annoying...found the meat on the higer level tigers around the area :)

In northern Winterspring, great cats assemble around a large landmark called Frostsaber Rock. The leader of these cats is known by the name Shy-Rotam. Defeating the matriarch of the frostsabers would grant you much respect in the eyes of your fellow <race>.

Go again to the harsh wilds, and once there, gather sacred meat from the frostsabers. Find the stone of Shy-Rotam, and place it there. Placing the meat of her kin before her will summon Shy-Rotam, in anger.

Be ready for her fury, and defeat her.
