If you do choose to go down the fire/destruction line, I'd highly recommend taking the orb over the staff. It's a great pair for the Sword of Serenity (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6829) from SM.

I would go for the Shadow Orb indeed; Shadow damage you need whatever your spec (a Destruction warlock still also has shadowburn and shadow bolt, and on later level Shadowfury ofcourse). Only three of your spell profit from fire spell damage (assuming you don't have this thing anymore when you get Incinerate...), and you also use your (affliction) shadow spells as destruction.

more importantly, the spell damage coefficients from shadow spells are generally almost two times that or fire spells for a lock- between 86% and 120% for the most used spells as compared to less than half of that for most fire spells.

The quest rewards from these two quests have been changed and are now the same, stats wise.. it's all a matter of which graphic you like better now.

I would recommend against doing this very long chain. You can get the Orb of the Forgotten Seer by doing graveyard. It drops for me nearly every time I go in there :(

I will get started immediately on crafting your orb and infusing your new demon into it. When done, you will have the choice of having it in the form of a staff or orb. I always felt it was important to cater to a warlock's chosen weapon... I see no reason not to continue that practice.
