The hive is located in the south central region of Un'Goro. There's only one entrance, which is clearly visible on the map. When you enter the cave, just keep right, with the exception of a few little niches that are obviously not the correct route. You'll wind up at a small room that contains the crystal mentioned in the quest text.

When you use the lure, you'll face three waves of enemies: 2 guards, then 3 guards, then 2 guards and queen. If you lure them out into the hallway, you can rest between waves. Good luck!

By the way, the Alien Ecology quest (http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=3883) can be completed in the same room.

I did it all fine and then at the final wave everything respawned and i had 6 mobs on me. Ooh and what do you know, the lure was consumed. Stay away from this quest until it's green...

Soloable with a 52 feral druid. First wave was no problem, killed both mobs in cat form. The trick seems to be leaving the last mob alive for just long enough for you to pop out, regrowth/rejuv and finish the mob.

Second wave included 3 mobs, and I switched to bear form. Used frenzied regeneration just before the first of 3 mobs went down. When I had the last mob at ~50%, the normal mobs in the room respawned. I ignored the last mob of this second wave while dealing with the respawns. After they were dead, I quickly regrowth/rejuved myself and finished the last mob of wave 2.

The last wave is 3 mobs, including the level 56 non-elite queen. Her level caught me a bit off guard, so I just concentrated on getting her down with no expectation of surviving her guards. By this time my frenzied regeneration was up again, so I used that first. With the queen at 50%, I attempted to bash (resisted), then popped a major healing potion, barkskin+regrowth/rejuv, and settled in to try and kill her. She finally died when I was at around 15% health. Quickly looted and died courtesy of her two guards.

Other thoughts: For melee, the hive guards and other Gorishi bugs have the Tunneler Acid debuff. It's a nasty Sunder Armor like debuff. I eventually had it stacked on me 5 times during the last wave, which took my 5k dire bear form armor down to under 3k. It cannot be dispelled.

I made it as 54 retribution pala. Just run into hallway and resting between waves. When there was time for a queen, mobs respawned, when i tryed to pull only one then queen with guards and all mobs there came to me. I focus just on queen, had to use Lay of Hands and Divine Shield + healing, but i made it, i killed queen, rest of mobs killed me. Then just ran there as a ghost and picked up her brain. Hard quest even when is green i guess.

I did it as a level 52 Shaman, not really good gear, but had to use my reincarnation in the second wave already because of bad luck with misses and no windfuries etc. I did kill the queen after that though and looted it aswell, for all you shamans out there: put down grace of air totem,searing totem and healing stream totem and when the guards are fighting you, put down a stoneclaw totem. I really recommend stoneclaw totem at the queen, so u can fully burst her with all your mana. If u have warstomp/blood fury just use it. Healing won't be needed if u just want to kill queen. Even if u want to heal, u can't heal since 3 guards and probably some adds from respawns are attacking you.

At 58, I was like sure I try this out. As a mage, crowd control is a easy enough and is partly what your made for. Got there, cleared to the crystal room, got the walls sample from the related quest. Started in on the first 2 guards without much trouble. {rant on - Second group of three, and behold, re-pops both in the room and behind me, after only about 2 mins total. I was like wtf is this and ended up dying. Five mobs was just to many to handle like that. Ran back to my body from that insane time-sink of a Un'goro graveyard. Thankfully the guards were still up, but the room had re-popped fully so it was just one long aggro train. I ran out of the cave and just dropped the quest. Im usually very good about pulls, pats and adds in the area if its a special circumstance but this was ridiculous. {rant off

It's worth pointing out that if you take your time luring them out into the hall, the queen can despawn, and you don't get the lure back. Make sure you don't take too long to get to the queen once she appears.

This is one of the HARDEST Solo quests I've ever done.

I didn't read thottbot or wowhead before attempting.

I went in and activated the crystal. I was on full health and mana as a 56 Ret/Prot spec paladin (DPS spec).

I have all blue gear from 49 twink, + 5-6 BRD Blue plate drops. So in all, good gear, good enchants.

I ended up having to Take on the first two 54s, the 2nd three 54s, and the Queen and her two 52 bodyguards with no break.

I also had no pots. I had to use Divine Shield twice, Blessing of Protection twice, Lay on Hands, Arathi Basin trinket twice, LOTS of switching between Auras for quick flash heals. I had to switch from 2H to the 1H Shield because these guys give you a poison that increases DAMAGE YOU TAKE, by 43%!

AND they give you a non-removable debuff that decreases your Armor by 5 x 400 (2000)

I just managed to escape the hive after killing ONLY the queen in the last wave, and looting. With 14 HP to spare.

I was very skillful, but VERY lucky to get out alive.

It is a VERY hard SOLO at the intended quest level.

STRONG suggestion: Bring a Friend or Two for quick 'n' easy.

Done it as a shadow priest, level 55. Died after killing the queen due to respawns, but anyway pulling them out of the hall is the way, allowed me to recover between waves and it was plain and easy until the damn respawns.

I did some chicken method kill first mob and then die by propose
then run back to body you will just drag queen to kill and loot

If you die, you may not have lost. The Queen will stay active for awhile (if you got to the third wave); I ran back and nuked her down and then died again to her guards, as a mage.

Also worth noting that if you are in the tunnel you can't pull just one mob, it seems to be all at once. I pulled the queen, adds followed killed here and then looted before killing adds and the system bugged on me couldn't touch them was down to 20 health still losing 120s and not dying. So be prepared if you loot mid fight for some iritation. Eventually died, and as I had brain rezed in Graveyard and hs back. - Stronly recommend you change HS to Gadget if it is not already.

Alliance group rushed past me on the final wave and attacked the mobs, and I was unable to complete the quest. I'm going to have to go back and get another lure. Huge waste of time.

Ok this quest isn't solo-able ...I suggest you do the quest with 2 more people...at least one of them should be healer.If you stay in the room where there's the crystal you can have no regen time since the waves show up exactly after you kill the last one of each hive...So be prepared for a heavy fight! GL

Solo'd this as a 53 rogue with decent weapons. Sword spec. First two waves, I simply dps'd down and used a major healing pot. I had the disease they give that increases damage taken by 44% after the first wave. so I went into the hallway and used a restorative potion to remove the debuff. Ate. waited for my pot cooldown then pulled the queen into the hallway and got 2 of her adds. Popped all my cooldowns on her, managed to kill one of the adds too, then I vanished. Doable with pots, and knowledge of how to play your class.

Tried as 57 shadow priest with around 120 + spell damage - my gear doesn't pack a lot of stamina though, heavy on intellect though, but middle of 2nd wave I was starting to run low on health and had to pop out of shadow form to heal, they blasted my shield to oblivions and I didn't get a chance to heal myself... 57 shadow priest = failed...

Be careful if you cannot cure disease, because you can get a nasty debuff that increases physical damage you take by even 40% for 30 minutes (Silithid Pox).
Also try not to loot the creatures that you kill when cleaning the room and the tunnel. It makes it longer for them to respawn and you really don't like any adds when fighting the queen.

This quest was NOT changed in 2.3.0. Edit: As in, It is the same difficulty as it was before. I.e. same amount of mobs and what not. Changed in the fact that there is greater Exp though.

Did it as 54 warrior together with 53 feral druid, piece of cake.

After first wave is killed the second spawns immediatley therefor it's a good decision to pull them out in the hallway if you're alone.

Just tried Soloing as a 57 warrior, didn't go down as I expected. I thought there would be some down time in between waves.. there wasn't. So I died pretty much as soon as the second wave came. However, when I went back to rez, I saw the guards had stuck around, pretty much as I assumed they would, was killing them one by one, and after a few realized I had just killed the Queen. So I have no idea what happened, but I guess they are all timed, and they all show up regardless of whether you are alive or dead. I realize that clashes with the whole 'you have to go back to get a new vial' but its just what happened for me.

Started as a level 53 shadow priest, leveled to 54 just before the wave with the queen, which made it easier as I was getting respawns, I also used mana/health pots in between waves to regen quicker.

On the wave with the queen, I pulled the guard on the right side, curiously, it only pulled the other guard, but the queen didn't come.

The Gorishi Silithid Crystal is on the other side of the mound straight from the tunnel ( northern most part ). It is sticking up from the ground and is pretty big . There will not be any sparkles comming off from it to show you need to use it or anything . I happen to mouse over it while fighting and noticed it . when you start the fight do as stated above and pull into the tunnel you will be ableto rest between pulls . hope this helps.

The best advice to win the game:
- when the first 2 mobs comes after place lure near crystal, run now to the hallway!
- kill them
- next 3 mobs spawns not in the hallway, but in the room. You can recover now, because they stay in the room.
- pull 1 on 1 if possible to hallway
- kill them
- recover in hallway, the queen is now visible.
- pull 1 mob now fartest from queen, another can come automatic, but queen stays near crystal. Don't try pull queen first, mobs can come to you.
because high respawn rate of normal mobs, staying in hallway is very good idea (1 mob showed up already when 2nd wave just started...)
- now you can kill another mobs first when respawned
- kill queen without much problem

It may be group rated quest, but the best trick is to leave the room and stay in the hallway, pull them in hallway, and everyone around level 55 can do it solo.
Doing it with l56 shaman, thanks to disease and poison removing totems. And another totems are helpfull too. :)
Put totems before lure in the hallway!

And the room you need is most right, in the north, with many bright bubbles. The crystal is a bit behind the room, at left.

The Blizzard quest designers are nuts if they think a 54 could do this alone. At the very least, you would need one extra person to heal. At that, it would still be almost impossible. The mobs respawn so fast, you end up with 5 mobs pounding you into oblivion. If you are anything under lvl 57 or 58, dont go without help.

Why is everyone moaning? this quest is very soloable at lvl 53, i did it as a dual wielding enhancement shaman. Very easy, used no pots, just nuke the mobs in the hallway with totems up... queen is solo-pullable. had to fight some respawns though.

I just have to say I've solo'd every quest on my rogue alt all the way up to lv 58 so far, even if the quest was red. I've killed elites several levels above me lots of times. I keep my gear incredibly up to date and I have some of the best stuff available. I went in to do this quest at lv 58 thinking it would be a breeze since it was green. I DID manage to solo one-shot it but I was amazed at how much harder this quest was than all previous ones, even ones 5 levels above me (and this was 4 below me). I had to use all my cooldowns and a health pot (I did NOT think to use the hallway in between waves...I just fought like mad till it was over). Pretty tough quest, plan your strategy (use the hallway strat, lol).

Soloed this as a 51 BM Hunter without dying (barely). Pulled back into the hallway and the waves didn't aggro when they spawned, so I healed up between each pull. I kept one of the guards trapped almost constantly, used Beastial Wrath twice, a Major Healing Potion, and Gift of the Naaru (on my pet). Two respawns in the tunnel didn't help, either.

Mages: Ice Block removes the 44% physical damage taken disease from you. I used mine after the second wave and had an easy time with this quest.

Attempted this as a lvl 54 Fury warrior... No such luck... When you die the spawns spawn too quickly and then the queen will despawn... best to just skip this

just solo'd as a 52 demo lock. could've kill the entire 3rd wave but decided not to as my felguard ended up getting the 30 min debuff so i just let him die and SS myself. very easy quest if u go into the hallway before u kill the last mob of each wave as it gives u a bit of time to drink and eat before u start with the next wave.

Saw several comments by high lvl shadow priests that said they failed to solo this so i thought i'd point out what i did as a lvl 57 shadow priest with 5/5 spirit tap talent without using the hallway strategy:

Shielded myself and waited a few secs before beggining the quest ( the key to the fight is stalling for time so you can always use pw:shield without losing too much health between weakened soul debuffs).

Tabbed through the bugs and cast DoTs on all of them, then proceeded to nuke one at a time. When shield broke i used psychic scream and recast the shield.. Took advantage of as many seconds of spirit tap as i could between killing the bugs(as recasting your DoTs on each bug is a mana burner). Used vampiric embrace to recover some lost health and during last wave i had to renew + flash heal after i feared them ( don't recomend trying to cast non instant heals deshielded with the bugs hitting you unless you have the talent in holy tree that reduces chances of spell pushback).

I think that if you stay on the right side of the room before the 3rd wave ( from entering perspective) , then the queen will not aggro with the guards, however i took her anyway as a challenge :)

Almost soloable as l55 hunter with good trained pet.
By 2nd wave of 3 mobs, 4th mob respawned which makes a more heavy fight. Barely alive with little health from me and my pet.
If you're throught 2nd wave, it's now easy. That is all.
Use hallway for better solo chances.

Yes this quest is kinda hard for everyone who isn't level 70 so I recommend that you just chill.
I'm not aware if I managed to bug it or not, but! Fact remains that I managed to slaughter some of the waves, die and then corpse run and continue. Try it out...

Very hard, tried to solo on 55 Subtlety rogue, used all CD's included preparation, so 2* all my CD's, vanished between waves to eat, allso had respawns at end with Queen, got her to 4%n died , but then she despawned :'(. after that, got help :P

Succeeded this without problems as lvl 56 warlock with felguard...

No special tactic. Just DoT's and drain life, healthstone, major healing potion, repeat DoTs and drain life...even though it did do much damage, i did not die...my felguard was close though...

But i wouldn't recommend soloing this under lvl 54.

Solo'd with ease as a level 56 frost mage.

I was frost aoe specced, so I pulled everything, FN and blizzard'd them down.

During the last wave I popped icy veins ao I could evocate without getting interrupted, popped the water ele, froze them and used blizzard.

Not as difficult as everyone else seemed to think imo.

The queen does not despawn if you fail to kill her - so if you are like me and attempt this too soon (level 51 in my case) you can still do it if you survive the waves until the queen spawns, then corpserun and kill her (along with any adds she may have left, as well as the possible respawns due to the short timer on the normal mobs)

TLDR: The queen does NOT despawn if you fail to kill her!

Solo'd as a 53 Ret Pally. Everything went pretty smooth, I just kept pulling mob into the hallway until I summoned the queen. Her guards spawned, same gig, pulled them to the hallway. The only problem I ran into was I took a little too long and when I engaged the queen, the first round of mobs respawned. Keep that in mind, the respawn rate isn't necessarily fast, but it's not terribly slow either. Like any good player I kept my focus on the queen, eventually had to bubble and cleared out of there. Upon completion, here's the best part, 11,800 exp! Bliz must be trying to hook us all up to hit 55 so we can roll DKs.

Like most of you after my first attempt I suspected this quest was impossible, and then reading i had to travel ALL the way back to Tanaris steamed me a bit. The next day I would give it one more try, for #$%^s and giggles, and my OCD that makes me finish every quest I have. All you have to do is pull them to the room opening, so they don't instantly aggro you, and on the last mob you always have as a mana user just wand it down, and gain all your mana back. The next wave doesn't come until after you killed the last mob in the current wave.

No mana pots, or potions used, just self buffs.

Soloed this as a 53 elemental shammy. It was a pain in the butt...died three times... anywho, healing stream totem, totem of wrath, and then elemental mastery with a lot of alternating between chain lightening and healing waves. Definately good idea to take them into the hall, i set my totems up there for the most part..

Amazingly lame quest.

Any quest that you have to come to Wowhead to figure out the secret (in this case standing in the hallway) is ridiculous.

This quest is way too hard AND to add to the aggravation, when you fail, you get to go all the way back to Gadget and acquire another quest item.

I do 99% of the quests in this game. I don't do Retrieval for Mauren. I don't do the quest where the guy from Stormwind sends you to kill 9000 plant elementals in Swamp of Sorrows. And I'll never do this again.

this is a classic wow crap quest. died twice. on second respawn, the quest reset. do you think i am actually going to fly back to gadgetzan to redo this hole?seriously, bring others if u want to succeed, otherwise hit the delete button...btw just as good xp for 'discovering' silithus...agree with the above comments..this quest should con 'yellow' until 60.

Did this one with my 54 Warlock.
When I used the lure guards started showing up in couples. I wasn't fast enough to fight 'em off so eventualy i was fighting the queen and 3 guards. When I got the queen's health to 50% Felguard died, so I used Howl of Terror and used Fel Domination to quickly summon my Voidwalker. Then I just used VW's Sufering to get the guards to attack him and finished off the queen. Quickly looted the brain, Sacrifised the Voidwalker and ran out of the Hive. On my way out I killed a Blood Elf too. :)

Soloed as a lvl 51 MM hunter. It wasn't THAT hard. It wasn't easy either. I got the brain on my first time but died trying to escape afterwords lol. The queen is lvl 56 and spawns with two lvl 54 guards on the third wave.

Soloable as 55 Arcane Mage.

I killed first wave inside the room, and when the second wave came I killed them all 3 together at hallway and rested.,

Then I killed the two hive guards together and then killed queen. It was hard at second wave but rest was okay.

I was absolutely chanceless with my lvl 54 dwarf paladin... I got killed while fighting against the queen, 2 guards and 2 more who just respawned. Mobs in the tunnel almost remove your entire armor (I was lucky to be a paladin) and can increase damage made against you by about 45% (I was lucky to be a dwarf, so I could use stoneform against that spell). I didn't lured them to the hallway.

Solo'd this as a level 51 Night Elf hunter.

Down first wave of 2 guards, then second wave of 3 guards.

Wait for third wave to come, let pet die. Feign death at the entrance of the little room.

Revive pet, eat up, focus fire on the queen, loot the brain, and gtfo.

Not sure if the quest has been gimped recently but soloed with a 53 Feral Druid. I didnt read up beforehand and didnt realize what i was up against. I just popped into Bear and kept swingin with swipe and glyphed maul. i used my barksin when it wasnt on cooldown to cast heals. I also used Herbalism's Lifeblood as often as it allowed. Truly wasnt so bad but could be due to the class. My advice is keep those heals up and pulling them as mentioned are probably the best tactics for this fight. It was funny but after i left i was killed by a 53 elite dinosaur.

This is doable as a 52 muti specced rogue.

I didn't have great problems with the first waves before the queen but had to use many of my cds to stay alive (evasion, blind, cold blood). If you pull the mobs towards the entrance to the chamber you can have a rest between each wave as you won't be forced into combat. I took this time to bandage and eat to full.

As the queen spawned I stealthed in, distracted her and killed her (CS, muti, KS, muti muti, evisc, muti) as fast as possible while being pummeled by her adds. Finally as she was dead I vanished with around 30% hp left just to find out that her the guards couldn't care less about my last move and they kept hitting me through stealth. I died.

Ran back to the hive as a spirit and the guards were still there as was the corpse of the queen. Ressed to just try and loot the corpse, but my char got stuck in the looting (/kneel) position and I wouldn't get the loot table to show. Died again without getting the quest item. Ran back and just to raise my f***-level a bit more I noticed that her corpse had disappered. Abandoned the quest there.

Sorry about all that nonsense in the end but my point is that a rogue can take the quest if everything goes well.

Alright, I just solo'd as a 50 Ret Pally. I didn't have any trouble at all with it, other than running low on mana, but judgement of the wise talent kept it up enough to finish fight. I just cleared room, killed both 54's, then the 3 54's and then whenever the 54's spawned with the queen, she didn't aggro me, and i just killed the 54's slowly so my mana would regen with the talent. 56 queen was a bit tough because of her crushing blow'ing me. Other than that, no deaths. Used Lay of hands once, but could have bubbled and healed if i needed too sometime. Maybe its like my friend says, and ret pallys are op lol.

Did this as a level 53 enhancement shaman. Was a lot easier than what I expected from the comments.

Had my totems in the hallway and used stoneclaw totem to keep extra adds off me while I killed them one at a time. Pulled the mob to the right on the last wave and seems like the queen doesn't aggro that way.

Beware-a 54 non-elite rare spawn, Clutchmother Zavas, hangs out here. In my case, she spawned *during* the event and wiped me out. >_>

Soloed it alone, lvl54 Enhancement Shaman, died once on second wave(first and third wave were a lot easier to kill). Used that pull them to hallway tactic, it is very helpful. If you are an Engineer make a good use of your grenade, as I was doing. Don't forget to take at least 1 healing potion with you. On third wave first kill queen then if u can kill other two guards or just loot brain and run.

Just soloed this as a 54 affliction lock.

Didn't even know about the hallway trick, just stood in the room and got attacked from all the spawns.

I used my VW and lots of dots. Burned down the first wave and had some time before the 2nd. Burned down that wave and had a bit of time before the queen spawned.

Couldn't get my VW to attack the queen so i feared her while me and voidy killed the two guards. Then moved on to the queen. VW died during the queen so i just used dots and DL.

This was a tough fight. But certainly doable.

For the locks: use crowd control, i forgot about howl of terror, but i used fear on the queen and 1 death coil on some of the guards. UA->CoA->Corruption->SB->LT->DL. There are a lot of them, but this rotation seemed to get them down very effeciently.

btw, using 2 lifetaps, then a death coil is a great way to get back a lot of mana/health quickly.

I just did this on my 52 affliction lock. I died to the first wave (3 guards), used my soulstone, ran to the hallway and recovered. Once I was back at full health and mana, I pulled one guard by itself. By the time I'd killed the last guard, a reaver had respawned right beside the queen. I nuked the queen down (Curse of Agony, Corruption, Unstable Affliction), took down the reaver, and looted the brain. Definitely not as hard as I thought!

I am hardly the best WoW player, but this quest annoyed and frustrated me to no end. As an Affliction lock, I died twice at 56, then returned at 57 and also died twice. Not knowing the secret of the hallway (some secret! whenever I defended myself there, I always aggroed wasp guards nearby), I simply could not take the damage the Hive guards would dish out, so matter how much I Sacrificed, Drained life, and drank potions. To add insult to injury, on my last attempt, while the Queen was still active in the chamber, I was killing one of her guards when another player zoomed past me and killed her! Three trips to Gadget to finish this infernal quest? No thanks. That's masochism. I know some talented 55-57s can solo it, but the difficulty AND the necessity of returning to Gadget each time for the lure made this impossible.

Avoid if you can.

Easily soloed it at level 52 with Shadow priest. Don't know why everyone crying here.

I've previously done this on a ret paladin and rogue where my experiences were similar to those above, not easy to solo (I didn't solo it on either class), use the corridor method and so on. Now, on patch 3.3, this isn't as difficult as it used to be, just soloed on a lvl 51 bm hunter, not a walk in the park, but not very difficult either and I don't believe the difference is the class.

I was thinking what the hell when there came 3 guards at me at the third wave and after a minute i figured out the queen was with em so you meet the queen and 2 mobs at the same time

Trying to do this with my lvl 65 priestess alt (also have tried it with my lvl 60+ mage). I managed to kill the first two waves and the queen, but hadn't looked the quest up here. The remains of the third wave plus respawns in room, made short work of me. Unfortunately, I hadn't looted the queen's corpse so when I took care of the remains and whatnot I had no brain, now I have to go get more lure but I also know how to do the quest. So thanks all for your input.

Pwnd it as a lvl 55 frost mage, it's easy with glyph of eternal water, (perma-elemental) frost shield and some aoe's here and there. :D

As a 55 enchancement shaman, soloing this one isn't too much of a problem, provided you heal yourself quickly and often.

I used the following totems: Stoneclaw Totem (the less mobs beating on me the better), Searing Totem (nothing like additional fire damage), Cleansing Totem (nothing like a portable medic) and Windfury Totem (with all the melee action you'll see on this quest, the haste boost is almost a neccessity).

It's important to note that spamming Fire Nova is a must while making sure to drop a second Seating Totem (you will need to due to the length of the fight). You will also more than likely need to drop at least one more additional Stoneclaw Totem.

This is certainly doable for a 55 enchancement shaman with mostly greens and a few blues, so don't let the previous comments dissaude you from the quest.

Shamans FTW ya'll.

Finish this Q by Balance Druid lvl 51 solo with some nice gear :)
U just have to kill all mobs in the room, exactly is 3
and then summon the Queen
At first they appear 2 guards, kill them and next is Quen with another 2-4 guard, be careful if mobs respawn
u can pull guards and mobs easy cause Queen does not aggro with them, but if u attack the Queen first, all of them will attack u

Lvl 57 Fire Mage - got killed the first time during the first wave, the second time when I went back to get the third wave, and the third time right after killing the Queen and looting. So this IS possible if you're not against dying a lot.

For those of you noting that the quest has a rather interesting name, not only is it a chess reference but it is also making subtle fun of your character, inferring that you are just a pawn. =) It got a chuckle out of me at least!

Here's the lure. Inside the hive network should be a crystal of some sort. We think the silithid use the crystal as some sort of hive-wide attunement device. As for where this crystal might be, I'd say try the hatcheries inside the hive.

Using the lure on the crystal should roust out the queen, but be warned - she will probably be protected by several guards. Take out the queen and remove her brain. As icky as that sounds, we desperately need to study it. Good luck, <name>!
