Walking straight up the ramp from the entrance, Kharan's cell can be found in the third side-tunnel entrance to the right off the large, circular main "lobby" area. It's fairly easy to tell if you're near the cell, because Kharan will show up as a quest objective on your map. You'll need a key to gain entrance to his cell, which is dropped off the mobs in the immediate area (the key is dropped only once, and only one party member may pick it up), or a rogue can lockpick his or her way in. Don't forget to talk to Kharan and listen to his story, then grab the followup quest that brings you back to King Magni Bronzebeard!

You need the Prison Cell Key to open his door, drops from High Interrogator Gerstahn wich resides further in in the tunnels.

This quest counts for the Loremaster achievement.

He is actually the second tunnel to the right.. not including the one you come out of. So it's the one facing almost directly southeast.

Also, to get the key you have to kill High Interrogator Gerstahn, who is located a little further down the tunnel in a square room on the right.

You need to do this quest first in order to King Magni to offer the quest.

Be warned that quest it's bugged, the tablets u need to collect don't glow and the cursor does not change when you pass it over them, but you can right-clic and loot them as normal so it's still doable.

I'm a 78 Warrior, I solo'd this area (working on Ambassador of the Alliance), and NONE of the npc's seemed to have dropped the Prison Cell Key. Should I maybe have done this in a party?

Starting from the right as you enter the large cavern with the patrols, look for the cavern with the cages hanging from the ceiling.

Kharan calls out to you as you approach his door.

'HEY! HEY YOU! <Race>! Get me out of here!'
