The ring well outways all the running around you have to do for this story arc, well worth it, plus all the xp from the Deadmines and the Stockades. But if your doing the stockades, make sure you have all the quest that go with it:
Bazill Thredd (Stormwind)
Crime and Punishment (Duskwood)
Quell the Uprising (Stormwind)
The Color of Blood (Stormwind)
The fury Runs Deep (Wetlands)
The Stockade Riots (At the Stockades itself)
What Comes Around (Redridge)

I did this quest at level 20, got runs through VC, Stocks, and got a high level to help me kill the 2 30 ish guys at the end. Even though i spent about 5hrs and 5 or 6 deaths on this quest tree, it was majorly worth it when i got my hands on this ring :).

This chain is definitely one of the best quest chains in the entire game. The ring is good too.

I ran through this line (still need the duskwood and redridge parts), but want to put a little clarity here.

The quest tells you to speak to "King Varian Wrynn". A search here for that King does not find you anything.

When you get to the court, you are questioned marked by "Lady Katrana Prestor", which is the NPC you need to speak to for this quest. She tells you that the King is away on "...a diplomatic mission...".

She gives you the ring, 3750 XP, and 500 (non human) Rep points with Stormwind.

Very nice twink ring.

Keep in mind that if you're going to use it for your twink, you should start "The unsent letter" quest from Van Cleef immediately at lvl 16. The whole quest chain gives you 12515XP, mobs excluded.

For your other ring you should choose the Warsong Gulch PvP reward ring.

Just to add what Licandra said - You do need to talk to Lady Katrana Prestor. Be warned though if someone has started the quest where she appears as a dragon and all the guards turn into dragonkin , she will not have the yellow question mark above her head. You'll have to wait until the quest is finished and she returns in her human form.

For twinks who have just learned of this, if your 19 you can still do the quest line and not pass 20, You just need a high level to take you through all the parts. (which will make it go faster AND eat up a lot of the Mob exp you'll get.).

Started this questline again after I learned of the ring a few days ago, and at 19 I had to go back through DM to get the letter, but due to having a high level I just waited at the entrance for him to clear the instance, except for VC, then ran up and looted VC after he killed him, overall (because of the respawning pats) I got about 900 - 1000 exp, so thats not too bad.

And you do the same thing for Stocks, which is easier because you dont have to worry about respawns as much. So unless your already close to leveling to 20, then I suggest you start the questline and get this ring.

I'm running around and I can find Lady Katrana Prestor and am NOT getting a ? any where to finish this quest. This is not a good sign.

For any one that doesnt know katrana is onyxia in her human form. When she says the king is on a "Diplomatic mission" He really has been captured. Thats what you get when you let a dragon near the king of a alliance capital.

If you start this quest chain flat out at 16 (with hardly any/no xp) you will just hit 17 when you finish it.

I added all the XP up and it comes to a whopping 14,015 XP after you get the ring. I will attempt this quest the second I turn 16 and post back with my ending lvl.

I've heard a LOT of commotion about this ring on the Trade Channel and a lot of people are convinsing the new players starting this very long chain to just stop. Let me tell you, if you get the Unsent letter from Vancleef you are lucky.

This chain quest is long and anoying yes, but ALONG with the EX you get from running around, you get XP from the Instances too. The Ring is definatly worth it and I know personally, I kept this ring for a VERY long time until eventually I outleveled it. (But that was MUCH later)

Dont let people tell you this isn't worth it... it truley is.

Updates:
Patch 2.1 (or something... it doesn't really matter which patch) - you now gain 500 StormWind reputation upon completion instead of the old 125. This is a nice increase in reputation ... just a bigger boost to get you to do it!

Patch 3.0 (Echoas of Chaos) - Before 3.0 you gave the note to the King's assistant and she gave you the ring... she was right next to the King's son... the prince. If you have read the fanatasy storyline about the kind he was gone away fighting, but then he returned to help build the Stormwind Harbor (that is the explination to the harbor... the king built it) -- and after the king finished his construction he has taken his place back on the throne to help introduce Death-Knights and help the citizens of Stormwind accept the once evil but no longer evil Death-Knights as one of their own as a part of the glourious Alliance!

This quest is now turned into the King himself and not his assistant... therefore, the words are different from the king to you.

The total turn-in experience for this quest chain is 14640, which helpful to know if you are going to be a twink. (excluding experience gains from killing NPCs for the quests).

If you have RAF active this quest chain is a must. I leveled to 20 then did it all. It got me to about 24 alone.

The text reads

"You are to be commended for the service you have done for Stormwind, <name>. If VanCleef had been successful in his machinations, he would no doubt have done considerable harm to the kingdom--something we must obviously avoid."

"Take this, <class>, as a token of the my appreciation."

The only thing that changed was the bottom of the text.

That thing in the old days with "A Diplomatic Mission" is a clear refference to the 'The Missing Diplomat' chain, which starts at the altar boy and is attainable at lvl 28. Before he moved to Stormwind, the king could be found prisoned in Dustwallow Marsh, which there was also a Q for. Also, in the old days, the ring was a crappy +2 stam/+7 spirit... suckish

The entire chain awards 13,745 exp with out any bonuses, 15,119 with 10% exp bonus and16,494 with 20% exp bonus.
