When you equip the helmet provided by this quest, the Gahz'ridian will show up on your minimap. Loot the little sandpiles and collect the ornaments.

The greatest concentration of piles is found in the Eastmoon Ruins (beware of Ogres).

There's even more of these at 40, 73. And a much lower concentration of ogres there, too.

It's Southmoon Ruins if you don't have coords.

While hitting the eastmoon/southmoon ruins for Gahz'ridian, you can save a bit of time by killing ogres for this quest: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5863 (The Dunemaul compound), on many servers the compound is camped. While not all ogre's are the type you need, you do get brutes and enforces spawning between the locks and regular's.

They are basicly spread out thru the Tanarisian desert. Little heaps of sand in the desert, oooh the joy.

BUT, as them being near ancient ornaments, or so the goblin lets us believe, they seem to be concetrated around the ruins.

Advisable to pick the q up as soon as you can, and then do the other Tanaris quests and keeping the helmet on.

48, 65 is a good place to look, tons there guarded by 47ish ogres

The ogres in that coords are so hard for me (43 rogue), i just can kill some 45 ogre mage or 45-46 regulars.

But there are a lot of Gahz'ridian in there.

For those with full quest logs, once you've started the quest, you can actually drop the quest but still keep the helmet and be able to dig up the ornaments.

Don't bother looking around anywhere but, Southmoon Ruins, & Eastmoon Ruins. Tons of them there. If you travel to both you will get all 30. There's a bunch of ogres around, so you'll have to kill some to get closer to the sand piles. :)!

48,65 you can pick up all 30 here. they respawn very fast. took me about 20 mins max to complete this quest. level 47 orges but you can bypass them all if your careful.

rocked up to the south ruins 10 + popped up on my mini map alone all at once.

maybe 4 or so at the east ruins

so start at south go to east for the last few if need be

The ruins at 47,65 were my biggest help there were like 12-15 there and they would respawn by the time you got all of them, if you get them quick then just grind off the ogres in the area for about 2 minutes.

Why in the world would anyone want to complete this quest and loose this rad hat, I kept this hat and abandoned the quest.

don't delete the helemet- you need to hand that back in too- if u delete helemet u have to do the entire quest again as when u abandon it takes the ornaments too- so keep the helmet to hand in also

Extremely easy quest, Soloed as a lvl 44 shadowpreist. Went to Shadowmoon, and picked off the ogres one by one, found all thirty Gahz'ridian in this area.

The map of the locations for these things does not do it justice. Hit the Eastmoon Ruins around (in the vicinity of 48,66). Your minimap lights up like fireflies. Got 18 there alone.

Tons of Ornaments at Eastmoon Ruins and Southmoon Ruins. For those who haven't cords, Eastmoon and Southmoon is south in Tanaris. Very easy quest and good rewards!

You don't need to wear the helmet to gather the Ornaments.
It's only purpose is to show the mounds on the minimap, just like other tracking abilities.

The helmet doesn't interfere with any other tracking you may have active. My hunter was able to keep beast or humanoid tracking up at the same while using the helmet.

The ornaments respawn every 2-4 minutes. Many can be found at 40, 73. The quest goes well with The dunemaul compound since there will be some ogres there.

i thoguht this would be bad, but only took about 10 min.
i was at dunemaul compound. and as i was collecting, they were spawning, so just go to dunemaul compound and you will be 100% set

Eastmoon Ruins (46.5 66.5) are far better if you want to progress quest at the same time, which is an excellent way to speed up the whole level/ questing progess, you can fulfill your entire quota of Dunemaul Brutes and Enforcers whilst completing the entire Gahz'Ridian quest.

Tip for Herbalists: There is a purple lotus on the east face of the ruins

In Southmoon Ruins (40,73) there are over 15 or more items, and only a few ogres, going there means complete the quest in 3 minutes or less... and also a Purple lotus for herbalists. Easy & Quick!

reaaaly annoying quest as druid.. just like all gather quests..

switches you back to casterform.. taking tons of mana eventually to go cat or w/e form..
and time to regen energy again..

so ya.. i abandoned it..

I don't know if this is normal but after I collected about 20 of them, I looted the mounds of sand and ther was nothing there. (Done on a lvl49 druid) So is there a few of them that don't have anything in them, or is something wrong?

Ogre's sure are stupid, I could stand like 5 meter from one and collect the ornament, they would not attack. Only 1 attacked me when I did the whole quest. Collected at 47,66.

If you stay close to the wall in the EastMoon Ruins, you can make about 2 circuits, get all of them, and avoid the ogres. Took me about 5 minutes.

The Eastmoon Ruins. Best place to get the ornaments at. SE from the Dunemaul Compound. Right Infront of The Gaping Chasm

As a level 43 rogue i didnt have to kill anything to complete this quest. I went to the Eastmoon Ruins and i just sapped every ogre that was to close, no ogre there move so its easy. Only aggro i got was running there and back to the questgiver.

Easily did this quest with a Heirloomed Hunter at 43. I was able to kill every ogre on my way.
Like others have before, I'd suggest the Eastmoon Ruins.

I did this easily has a lvl 43 rogue. I just went stealth and sapped the ogre that was right next to it. Very easy to do as a rogue. Not sure about other classes though.

Don't even bother going to the Eastmoon Ruins. I went there first and quickly picked up 10.

Then I continued on to the Southmoon Ruins and the concentration there is silly. Easily more than 30 of them in that area, and they are so close together you won't even remount to go from one item to the next.

Took me longer to ride from Marvon and back than to actually pick up the items in Southmoon.

Also, this was the easiest 6300 experience and 250 reputation I've ever gotten. Absolute cake.

I agree with edeocles.
Southmoon Ruins, co-ords 40/69...1256 yds SW of Marvon Rivetseeker, is by far the best place to get all the ornaments you need.
Level 45-48 Ogres.
30 ornaments and 2 Purple Lotus in under five minutes round trip.
I submitted a screen shot of the ruins.

<name>, I'm a scientist, but also a treasure hunter at heart!

Long ago, when trolls used to occupy this land, they created large amounts of ornaments modeled after Gahz'rilla, a hydra they worshipped as a deity. These ornaments are carved out of an element that I call "Gahz'ridian," after the hydra god.

I did find some myself, but I'd like to have some more to study -- maybe you can find some?

I even invented a detector that makes finding the Gahz'ridian a snap! Just put it on, and the search begins!
