This is the first required quest to get the Sprite Darter Egg.

I soloed the whole quest line and got my pet at level 58, it was annoying because Kindal and the darters you need to save kept starting fights that they were unable to win.

I recommend getting some friends to help you, and that you are at least level 45.

I found the easiest way to complete this portion of the quest is to first clear out the immediate area around the Bamboo cage.

Then activate the quest by speaking to Kindal and you'll find yourself having a lot easier time.

Kindal must survive and 6 Sprite Darters must escape. The Darters will stop to fight so following the largest group a little way will vastly increase your chances of success.

This quest begins the quest line for obtaining your Sprite Darter Egg.

This quest leads you to "Doling Justice" http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2970

After you take the ring to Darnassus at the end of the Doling Justice quest chain, you need to return to Kindal Moonweaver to pick up the "An Orphan Looking For a Home" quest: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=3841
I would suggest also getting the flight paths from gadget to theramore, then from menethil to Airie Peak in the hinterlands prior to starting this quest as one of the steps is on a timer. Good Luck and Happy Hunting!

Solo'd this as a 43 balance druid.

A little advice on this quest.
Like other before have said, clear out the immediate area around the cage.
Once you open it, a Shaman will spawn right next to the door, Hit him immediately and all sprite will attack him. He'll die instantly. Next focus you attention on the mobs on the path directly infront of the cage. Take out grimtotems that are attacking the sprites one by one. Ignore every other sprite just focus on the ones straight ahead.

Don't worry bout the ones that will behind the cage.

This quest is a pain in the ass.
But Its best to start in a Lev 48 or so.Or bring a healer friend with you at lev 45.
Cause the taurens spawn fast.
and also a good idea to clear the place before getting the NPC.

Solo'd as a 46 Lock.
First time I tried it, I cleared the area, then I went in using my aoe thinking it was an easy task. Let the VW grab all the agro and AOE them down. I died REAL fast.

Second time kept Void Walker up, kept Curse of recklessness up on all mobs so they wouldn't run off and grab more. I had to sacrafice him once when his health was to low to recover. I then hit Fel Domination, brought him right back with full health (real pain trying to get him to grab all the agro again).

This was hard for me. I burned everything i had to finish this quest. In the end I had 23 health points, 2 mana points and zero demon pets. If you really want this done, i'm sure you can do it, but be prepared to get frustrated. If I had to do it again, I would get help or hit it at a higher lvl.

This quest was quite fun for me~ First I killed half the camp, then started the quest. Without fighting any respawned mob on the way, I opened the door straight away. Then the fun starts...

It was such a beautiful sight to see a group of darters ganging up on a poor shaman or raider... Then I got some massive ping for some reason(6000+) and got disconnected. When I got back, the whole camp was empty and my health was full... the quest was completed by itself.

just soloed this as reasonably well-equipped 44 rogue. took me a few tries, died once. here's the thing, iyam.

first, clear out as many as you can around the compound, esp to the west, as they're pretty easy to get 1 or two at a time, and then they're done.

then get the quest, jump down and get to the cage and open it as quickly as possible. do what you can, but don't worry about failing the quest as long as you stay alive. the result will be that a lot, maybe all, of teh grimtotems around the cage are dead. run back up and wait for kindal to respawn, grab the quest, and jump back down before all the grimtotems around the cage can respawn. kill some of them, follow one or two of the sprites and make sure they don't get themselves killed.

so, in short: clear, attack and withdraw while staying alive, then go again before respawn. worked for me, discovered by accident.

I quickly cleared out the main area to the east of the cage, and along the path I cleared about half of the mobs. then I got the quest, unlocked the cage, and quickly pulled any remaining mobs to my group of darters. With 10+ darters and the quest giver, and myself killing, I could pretty much keep pulling the mobs and have them dead before the next one was killed. I had better luck the second time I tried. The first time, the darters just went everywhere. They 1v1ed every mob in the place. It was ugly. I would suggest clearing out the entire area QUICKLY if you have a chance. The respawn is quick, but not so quick that you don't have time for a full clear. This was at level 43 - priest.

really easy for a 43 Prot Paladin. i pulled the entire portion of the camp by accident, so i was forced to drink a mana potion. yay for not dying =D

the part about this chain i don't like is going to Darnassus. it took forever to fly there

It was quite simple for me. What I did was kill everything then went and got the quest then freed them. >.<

Don't pass up the chance to have fun at 50. This and the next quest in the series here are an absolute blast, at least as a Feral Druid. You get to romp around easily killing everything in sight and still get XPs for every kill. It's still worth clearing out the camp before starting the timed quest though. Figure two quest rewards plus the loot and XPs from clearing the area three times & the fun for 20 minutes. Do it!

Whatever you do don't go in the cage while the door is open, it'll shut and you won't be able to get out until someone else does the quest or you aggro mobs around and rez outside the cage.

Not sure about anyone else but I tried doing this quest at lvl 70 to get the pet and everytime I try to attempt the first quest it freezes my game for the 6 minutes and cannot do anything until the timer is completed. Is that something against a lvl 70 or is it a current bug?

no fun at all.... when having 4 mobs on u (they heal themselfs and run away when theis hp runs low) close your quest helper add on if u want to do it.

had that bug too, but i found a solution, i turned off all my UI-addons and it didnt freeze anymore :D

my strategy to complete this was: accept quest, rush to the cage and open it, then run back to where you accepted the quest, when u see that u failed it, accept it again and rush back to the cage to open it again, do this for about 3 or 4 times and alle the guards will be killed cuz they dont respawn that fast.

Any way for Horde to get into the cage, (rogue lockpick, blacksmith key, engineer 'universal key')? Nice squishy egg-droppers all collected in one place.

Tried to do this quest but lagged out, and ended up abandoning it instead. Now the quest giver doesn't have the quest anymore. Any suggestions?

She doesn't seem to be offering the quest on the 4.0.3a test realms. I suggest you get this quest done ASAP.

Since this quest has been removed in 4.0.3a, can the darter be obtained still or is it also removed?

The filthy Grimtotem clan are capturing faerie dragons, <name>. Jer'kai and I have no idea what they plan on doing with them, but they're obviously up to no good.

We're not powerful enough to fight our way into the camp and free the captured dragons, but perhaps with your help...

If you're willing, and you have some strong friends, release the creatures from their cage with this key and make sure they escape with their lives. I'll be by your side the entire time. Jer'kai will remain here.
