I've done this quest a bunch of times, but only once since 2.01... It now seems that not only do the hides drop from the mobs, but you can also skin them. I killed 1 mob, dropped a hide, skinned it, got a second hide and a thick leather. Nice perk for skinners I guess.

You can find an abundance of them starting at 55,56 just south of the main road.

So basically, if you have skinning, the quest will go twice as fast.

ok since the last update, somehow it became so hard to drop. Cleared the cave 17 times, had only 8 drops.

Still clearing while posted (try get skinning, it helps alot)

Dropped this quest after 20 mobs killed, no drops, very low drop rate I guess.

With skinning this quest takes like 5min to do o/

From first loot to last loot, took 9 minutes, as a level 46 hunter with Skinning.

right now (1 nov 07) I have done this quest without skinning.
the drops seems sometimes low but I got never less than a hide on five mobs, the average rate was every 2-3 with some consecutive drops, maybe they have fixed the rate or just I was very lucky

Skinners, you can skin this mob, and you get another chance to get a yeti hide.

53.56 is where you will find them, around and in the cave.

Wow I can sure say the drop rate for me was very low. Only 2 of 10 were drops the other 8 I skinned. my numbers are like this

Feral Scar Yeti 44% 7/16
Enraged Feral Scar 33% 2/6
Hulking Feral Scar 50% 1/2

so that was a drop rate of 1 in 12 Ouch

How is this supposed to help me with the quest? Where am I supposed to go to get the Thick Yeti Hide? This site doesnt tell anything...

Go to the cave at 53,56. It should be on the northwest side of The High Wilderness.

The mobs are level 43-46

If you have a distress beacon you can do the homing robot is inside the cave: http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=2766

The drop rate is pretty low, about 10-15% although having skinning at 215-225 will cut the time taken by a lot for you can loot the quest item by skinning them

Go to 52,31 for Improved Quality, the next quest

I must have gotten really lucky because my drop rate was higher than most. I know I killed less than 20 total yetis and only got 1 extra from skinning.

This seriously is a terrible droprate, I got helcular's rod faster than a single leather.

Got all the items withing 15 mins, killed around 30-40 yetis.

I only killed 8 Yeti and 2 actually dropped the needed leather but they all dropped it when skinned.

Droprate for me was about 1/4, so not too bad.

Look out for allys here, since they have the same quest. Had one that ganked me several times and I had too wait since he was 10 lvl:s higher than me...

This quest goes super fast if you have skinning,you get the hides on every mob you skin.

This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.

Just did this quest and had no problems. 14-02-2012

I take pride in my leather work, and I feel it shows; quality should never be compromised. Anyone who says that quality doesn't matter would also have you believe that the earth does not keep secrets!

In my latest pursuit of high-quality materials, I have discovered thick yeti hides. Yetis are native to Feralas, often found west of here in Feral Scar Vale. I'll give you a choice of one of my leather goods for a stack of ten. If that is agreeable to you, then we are set!
