As you are escorting the robot chicken to its desination, you will encounter three group spawns of mobs that occur due to the quest.
The first spawn consists of three yetis, and you shall encounter them just north of the cave you found the robot in.
The second spawn consits of three gorillas, and you will encounter them just after turning north on the main path.
You will encounter a third group consisting of four or five furbolgs where the road forks after you cross a stone bridge near a waterfall.

This is a very frustrating escort. At every chance the chicken will continue while fighting the mobs. Quest failed.... I suggest raid marking it, for some extra ease.

I tried to solo this one, made it through the first mob fine. At the second mob the chicken b-lined it through the mob and i had a bit of a problem. Bottom line I'd suggest doing this with at least 1 other person, makes life a lot easier, is doable solo but you'll have to be a top notch player in my opinion. Fun Quest none the less :D

If you are having trouble completing this quest due to the escort running off, here is the problem and solution:

Problem~
As with many things in wow, Blizzard did not test this quest using all classes and skill levels. Being an escort quest, we naturally want to keep the escort alive. If you are taking all the agro from the chicken, like using an AoE or multishot, the chicken will not know it is combat due to the fact that it has not been "hit" or damaged.

Solution~
Let the little bastard take some damage. Make sure you are in the area of the mobs AND the chicken. If you have a pet, put it on passive then TAKE the agro from the chicken. It will continue to fight for you and not run away. It will NOT however tell our friends at Blizzard to fix the problem. Submit a game ticket so the developers will pay attention to the detail that makes or breaks this game.

i think they made this Quest like that, just for pure fun.
think again, that chicken is only a braindead robot, does whatever it's programmed to, so maybe its not a bug at all :)

Something interesting I noticed as I did this quest on my Druid:

I did the first 2 spawns easily, but at the last spawn (the Gnolls) I stayed in stealth and they ran right by the chicken. Then they doubled back, ran by it again, and disappeared.

Whether or not they aggro in the first two I can't say, but it seems that if you can stealth you can completely ignore all the mobs (at least the third spanw.

On the last ambush mob, take out the healer first. He is wearing the robes. If you kill the healer first it will make it a lot easier.

Since you can aggro mobs and the chicken will not attack them, you can easily do this quest (and the hinterlands one, but not the tanaris one because of mob spawn points) by mounting, running ahead of the chicken when he alerts incoming, and training the mobs around on the mount until they de-aggro, happy questing!

Amazingly soloed as a level47beast mastery hunter.Used Explosive Trap and Volley every ambush and was fine, until the furbolgs or whatever came, then I had to use The Gift of the Naaru and a Superior health potion.Don't be pissed about failing this quest, its always soloable a level or two higher!

Solo'd as 44 Beast Hunter

The Chicken decided to take off and leave me alone with the first two sets of mobs... I left my pet to tank em and followed the chicken... We got out of range so my pet despawned and called him back next to me, the mobs stayed back there.

The last group was pretty tough, 5 Gnolls, complete with healer/caster's.
The chicken also liked breaking my trap. We got through ok... blew all cooldowns tho.

Soloed easily as a 47 Marksman hunter.
Let the chicken take some damage, they wont one-hit him ;)

Do not let the bugger run too far from you while you eat / drink. Make several stops to eat / drink instead of a single big one, or you risk failing the quest.

I soloed this as a 44 Shammy (on 3rd attempt). The secret is to make sure you kill as many mobs around the cave first of all. Also, let the chicken take some of the aggro, but make sure you can pull it back to you. The 1st set of mobs (yetis) are fairly hard, but with one down its gets a lot easier taking on two mobs. The 2nd set (gorillas) are very easy.... Now the 3rd and last set are a pain. Make sure you have health pots and also a stonescale pot would be nice! Kill the mob in robes first of all as he is a healer. Then take out the alphas's, keeping an eye on aggro on the chicken....you should be able to take care of everything then.

I just did this one last night solo, and failed, but I did notice something noone else made mention of.

I'm a 47 Rogue with max Master of Deception. I remained in stealth while following the chicken (Some Camo to keep me up to it's speed), and as the mobs spawned, they ran by the chicken, and didn't attack it at all. The yetis ignored the chicken, the gorilla's ignored the chicken.

But the Gnolls stopped and started to attack the chicken, and I couldn't pull aggro quick enough to keep the chicken alive, so quest failed, but information gained.

Happy hunting.

Edit: Did it again, chicken pulled aggro from each group even though I stayed stealth, might have been a glitch the first time through.

Is it possible as Rogue to use distract on the mobs as the chicken passes in stealth to avoid any fighting what-so-ever?

I'm on a low population server, hard enough to find people for dungeons let alone questing.

Soloed as a 46 druid.
Simply rooted one of the mobs at each wave, then switched to bear form and pwn them. Used warstomp to throw an uninterrupted regrowth+rejuvenation.
First wave was the hardest imo.

Just did this today solo as a 45 SPriest. The first wave I pulled back and dropped Shadowmeld to attempt to let the mobs walk right past him, they swarmed him immediately so I pulled aggro off of him and killed them, he joined. When the gorillas came, I ran ahead and grabbed aggro as quickly as possible, the chicken walked right past, and I was afraid I was going to have to kite them while keeping him within range. But the chicken doubled back, about 20 yards away, and helped with the battle. I wasn't confident in a 5-on-1 situation, so I mounted, and ran ahead when he alerted about the third ambush. I ran right through the group, and they all aggro'd me and I was able to lose them, and finish the quest with ease, although I used the help of a bubble just before I mounted. My advice is to fight the first two, taking aggro and staying close enough for him to register combat, and to mount-kite the third set.

Tried it on my 43 Hunter, but when got the bugg where the chicken just run through them and attacked me. Chicken out of range and quest failed...

Followup of this quest is An OOX of Your Own, but available only after completing all 3 separate quests of finding distress beacons in corresponding zones:

Find OOX-17/TN! (Tanaris)
Find OOX-09/HL! (The Hinterlands)
Find OOX-22/FE! (Feralas, this quest chain)

One thing I am very sure is that, this quest is mistakenly leveled. I barely cleared it with my lv50 hunter, and failed with my fully buffed lv49 rogue. If it is very difficult for you to clear it while it is green in your quest list, it means Blizzard is giving you a quest that you can only clear after it is grey. Brilliant setting, as many other quests do.
Both my hunter and rogue can clear all other quests here (lv44-46) very very easily, except this one. It should be at least 45(group), while I would recommend to set it as lv50, otherwise most people would have to forget it. This quest is fun, but the level is just WRONG.

Something to keep in mind, unlike the Tanaris rescue mission, the mobs that spawn in Feralas for the quest run at you from a distance. If you aggro them before they get a chance to hit the chicken it will run right past you and keep going likely causing you to fail.

This is actually a bit easy for a Balance Druid. (Maybe Resto too)

I completed this at lvl 44. All I did was root one yeti, let the chicken take one and nuke the other, then kept the other rooted and went after the one that the chicken had been tanking. Finished all 3 pretty well. (I did have help from a feral druid passing by on the last yeti though)

As for the Apes. Simple.

Root 1.

Sleep 1.

Nuke the other.

Then keep one sleeped, kill off the second, then third is pretty easy.

For the last 4 gnolls. The chicken didn't start attacking them (was lucky there, I aggroed first and chicken was already pretty far ahead) so I just kept them on me and ran after the chicken but kept far enough away so it didn't aggro.

Right before it completed, the gnolls left me alone.

All in all. Quite easy if your a Moonkin (OOMkin at this level, more like it. -.-).

I just did this quest as a lvl 48 warrior, I kept being killed by the yeti or the 4 gnolls so i tried the method listed above in witch you get on your mount and gain the attention of the beasts then proceed to keep running, it works and it works great for all 3 of the above instances just want to verify what others had already said above.

Anyone else having an issue where you can find the chicken, but not get the quest? I was shaving yeti for the hide quest out of Feathermoon Stronghold last night and ran right past the chicken. At the time, there was an exclaimation mark over his head, but I didn't do the escort because I didn't have time.

I came back today with my wife to do the same Feathermoon quests, but now there's nothing above the chicken. We've checked back several times, but the mark hasn't come back. Any thoughts?

This was one of the easier chicken escort missions. I did this as a 51 Alliance Rogue with some help from a 58 Blood Elf Death Knight @ the Gorilla and Gnoll parts. So that was pretty cool. :D

I tried out this quest 10 min ago with my prot paladin. All the ambushes was cake, but when the gnolls attacked I accidently pulled aggro before the chicken did, so he didn´t stop. I thought "Whadever, I just mount up after this fight and catch up on him before he dies by other mobs." When I killed the gnolls, the chicked had despawned and the quest was marked as failed. He hadn´t made it far, only 50 yards or something when de despawned. I was pretty $%^&ed, since I was almost done with the quest.
So you probably have to keep the chicken close enough to you so you can see him on the screen, otherwise the quest will fail.

Just did this as a 44 Shadow priest. It was touch and go on the last ambush. The others are relatively easy, just use your class mechanics and you'll be fine. The strat for the last fight needs to go something like this, regardless of your class; however, I'll be using my SPriest examples.

As with any other WoW escort, make sure you let the NPC get aggro on the hostile mobs first; failure to do so will result in you having to kill 4 mobs, try not to die, and failing the quest even if you are successful otherwise (NPC range fail). The primary "baddie" in this final ambush is the caster; kill him quickly and essentially ignore the three melee adds. As a SPriest, I got him DoTed with the usual openers (VT, SW:P, DP, 1st MB). Silence the caster then run up to the melee adds. This will get them into a tight group which can then be feared. Hit your bubble right after the scream as your first application will almost definantly be broken after grouping the mobs. MB the caster again and the MF him down. He shouldn't get off a single heal and your base damage taken from the lightning bolt should be a non issue. DoT up each of the three remaining, switching between them as VT becomes available. Stacking touch like that, screaming when off CD, and bubbling will kill them very quickly and the fight is yours. As usual, killing the healer is the lynch pin.

SO-
Is it possible to solo at 44? Yes. But it's hard. I would wait until 46 or 47 if you aren't up for a challenge or the potential failing of the quest.

I just did this quest on my feral druid, and you can indeed still stealth everything. I just went into stealth mode and every wave of mobs just ran by, made the quest almost trivial.

As of 3.2, now just requires escort out of feral scar vale to the road immediately north. it then does an awesome green-flame-trail rocket takeoff. turn in still appears to be at the robot chicken guy in booty bay.
completed just now on my 50 mage, was very surprised because i did it a few weeks back with a rogue and had to follow it all the way to the coast.

Quest was fairly simple. With the nerf, the ambush at the end was really easy on my priest. Simply grabbed all aggro so the chicken didn't think it was in combat then feared the mobs. He flew away, I ran away and then the mobs despawned.

This quest has been nerfed HARD. Now you just get the chicken out of Feral Scar Vale, take on three Yeti and that's the end of the story.

I could not solo this as a level 43 frost mage. Tried it twice, using every trick I had. The mobs in the final ambush were level 46, and that was high enough to resist my spells a little too often, as well as hit hard (on cloth). Used every cooldown I had, polymorphed one of them, kited with Cone of Cold, Frost Nova'd when I could. It wasn't enough. I was unlucky on procs as well, probably due to too many resists. If Frostbite had proc'd just a couple of times, I might have squeeked by.

And to make this post a little more informative, the chicken seems to aggro on anything you attack now. I had to clear out a yeti and a bear, and the chicken joined in despite the fact that we were both about 30 yards from the mobs.

UPDATE ON QUEST!

The "chicken" only leads you up out of the cave and to the road, where you will battle 3 level 46-47 Yetis. Once they ahve been defeated the chicken says: "Cloaking systems online! CLUCK! Engaging cloak for transport to Booty Bay!" and flies off into the distance

Note: Strangely, it goes the exact opposite direction that Booty Bay is in, although we are on the other side of the continent so maybe it's quicker to go the other way!

I have just completed this quest. The beacon dropped from a yeti right next to the robot.
Though have no idea about other two (haven't been in the hinterlands after patch, and didn't get beacon in Tanaris)

I did this quest and the others prior to Cat so I could get the Mechanical Chicken. I heard these were possibly going to be removed, then a Beacon dropped. Surprisingly, the Beacon allowed me to accept this quest! And I could in fact click the chicken. And I just did the escort (exactly the same as it was in November of 2010). So I'm wondering how I can do this a second time (unless it's a different Beacon as someone theorized here). No idea what will happen in Booty Bay, and no idea what will happen over in Hinterlands and in Tanaris.

I just wanted to report that you can get this Quest (OOX-22/FE) even if you have the pet and it seems identical---even if the Beacon item / name has changed.

I wanted this pet and was unsure which quests I did not do. I used the macro that was posted and found that I had not done the quest in Ferelas or Tanaris. I went to the caves in Ferelas and found the chicken. I fought a few Yetis and the quest dropped. I completed the quest and headed for Booty Bay for turn in. I was able to turn in. I then received another quest and upon accepting it, I received the Robot Chicken.

Why is this quest marked : This quest was marked obsolete by Blizzard and cannot be obtained or completed.?

I almost didn't bother going to Feralas but after noticing a recent comment, I decided to check it out. I still needed this pet. This quest is still available in the game!
