Very tough to complete at level solo. There will be two ambush attempts by first 4 Yeti and then 4 Gnolls. By getting the first attack in you can kite all the enemies off while the chicken continues on his path. Just stay close enough as you kite them.

Soloed this as a 46 mage actually. The main problem is getting from the cave to the road.. generally a bear or ape will agro as the three yeti that spawn about 30m from the road attack, which can make for a very tough fight. The other spawns(gorillas followed by some gnolls) are easier to deal with ~ not much worry of outside agro either.

It is an annoyance to do solo. At 47 and a hunter I can handle the 3 yeti fine, but somehow I always manage to agro 2 additional apes. Fending off 4-5 level 43 mobs can be challenging.

I did it solo at 49 as a pally. At one point 4 mobs came, but i still killed them although i had to use divine shield and a health pot.

gotta find this one ive completed the other 2 in the 40s and now im a 55 hunter still can't find this one.....if any1 can tell me where theres a good drop rate for this just reply

I'm going to post this message on all three of these "Find" quests, just in case someone doesn't see it on one of the other two.

If you plan to do these quests in a group (which is very helpful, as any escort quest) everyone must first have completed the "Find" part of the quest, which means you have to find the chicken, choose "Complete" and then be *offered* the next part of the quest, which is the actual escort part. But do not accept this part until everyone has done the "Find" part, otherwise it won't be offered to them as escort quests normally are, because technically you are not on the same stage of the quest yet.

So just complete the "Find" part, then when the next part is offered, decline it until everyone is ready to accept it.

Just did it as 46 shaman solo..

Enchanment spec and dual wield, tried to conserve mana from fights and popped AB trinket on last fight...

As a shaman i find the best tactic for quick taking down was

. stoneclaw totem for aggro
. fire nova totem
. magma totem
- doing all this while stormstriking etc for max. dps

1. Clear through the yeti cave, accept the escort quest.
2. Escort the chicken until he is ambushed by yetis. Abandon the quest and let him die.
3. Run back through the cave quickly before respawns and accept again.
4. You may now bypass the yeti ambush; the chicken will run straight to the road and the yetis that did not despawn will ignore him.
5. You'll be ambushed by 3 apes on the road, no other mobs will interfere. Once they're dead, restore health and mana asap.
6. Shortly after the bridge you'll be ambushed by 4 gnolls. The mystic can and will heal.
7. It helps to let the chicken tank 1 or 2 of them.

Solo'ed as a 45 rogue. All I did was stay stealthed the entire time and all the mobs just ran by me and the chicken. Sounds bugged, but meh... I'll take it

I was doing the Yeti quest when I stumbled upon the chicken. There was another lvl 44 warlock although he was horde we did it twice once for me and once for him and together we managed just fine :)

Soloed as 46 feral druid. Stealth didn't work for me, so maybe bug caticus mentioned is fixed...

Kill all yetis in cave and mobs such as bears and yetis in between cave entrance and main road.
Then race back to chicken, accept quest and have at it. This way you avoid unnecessary and annoying adds that leap into the boss battles.

As feral druid I found it best to tank in bear each of the 3 fights, but allowing chicken to tank too. He is quite good at chasing runaway mobs with low health - what a little star ;)
In the 3rd gnoll fight tank the mystic first so he doesn't get down to healing.

Main problem with quest is little time for healing self/chicken afterwards and looting/skinning. I advise not bothering looting as I actually lost quest once because chicken races on to its glory/doom. Just heal fast and follow the chicken!

Solo by 45 Rogue 100% Subtlety.

Letting the chicken die and the taking the quest again worked for getting by the 3 yeti that appear.

I had to fight the 3 apes. I blinded 1 and killed the other 2. The chicken tanked 1 for me then I grabbed aggro on last 2, had to use a health pot but that was all.

Just as the chicken gave it's warning about the last group an alliance went by me and all the gnolls went after him and ignored us. He kept riding to the dock but when the gnolls broke aggro they just ran back up the hill and ignored us.

So a good way to get past the last mob is get someone to aggro the gnolls and just run for the dock while you stay with the chicken.

Turn in is in BB.

This was the easiest escort quest ever for my druid. (I'm level 51, but I don't think had much to do with it.) I followed the advice about letting the chicken die on the first group after abandoning the quest. When the apes charged I was stealthed already (I often do on escorts, since I can Pounce an attacker and stun him). The apes just charged on by! Likewise the four gnolls. After they passed, I noticed they were chasing us, but they didn't catch up before they despawned.

I can't help but wonder if the yetis would have done the same thing if I had been stealthed. Worth trying. If so, I probably could have just killed the bear and gotten on with it.

Note that the chicken's AI is rather buggy. Sometimes he'll decide to move on in the middle of a fight, and leave you fighting a group of mobs while he runs away. If you're not a class that can fear or freeze all the mobs and run away, this means the mobs will prevent you from keeping up, and you'll fail the quest.

I'd recommend saving this until you're higher level, or doing it with two people, making sure that one of you is always in range of the chicken. Once it's done you can simply switch and the other person can complete the quest.

In the many times I've done this, I've found that the main difficulty of this quest (as with a lot of other escort quests) is the one you're protecting, not the ones you're protecting it from.

Don't bother trying to run from the spawns. The three yetis chased the chicken and I all the way to where the apes were about to ambush us. Luckily, Mr. Cluck aggroed the yeti finally before we had two groups on us. Pretty easy as a 49 Fire mage. Boom Boom, Blast Nova is your best friend, especially for the Gnolls. CC right as they come up, because the groups all run past the chicken a bit then turn around to attack him.

The last ambush with the gnolls, the chicken ran right passed them as they headed toward me. So I had to run to the chicken making sure he got in combat.

I got the beacon when I was leveling my mage there, but I failed the quest and didn't bother to do it again.. Now, I'm farming for vanity pets and decided to go through feralas and try to get the beacon again so I could complete the quest.
I didn't need the drop, 'cuz the "!" was still there. So worth mentioning is that if you abandon the quest and decide to do it later on, you don't have to farm the drop.

Or maybe it was just a bug, I don't know.. I was happy about it though :D

The first ambush (Yeti) you'll have to deal with. After that, you're home free - sometimes.

The second (Apes) and third (Gnolls) ambushes can be safely avoided. Occasionally I've had them attack the chicken, but most of the time as long as you don't aggro the mobs the chicken will just run on by right through them. Don't forget that the mobs will patrol back once, so make sure you avoid them there too.

I ran this quest with a guild member just Monday, August 3rd; we guarded the chicken nearly all the way to the west coast with a total of 3 ambushes of 3 mobs each.

I ran this quest again on my own 47 Priest today (3.2.0 dropped yesterday); shortly after the first ambush once the chicken stepped onto the road he shot off like a rocket west-ward, completing the quest. Only one ambush of 3 mobs.

Did anyone else experience this prior to 3.2 coming out? Did Bl*zzard make all of these quests easier?

Confirmed. Both the Feralas and Tanaris versions of this quest have been shortened to the first three mob encounter, then the chicken rockets off. Not sure of the Hinterlands version yet, will update.

All three quests have been changed to one ambush. After that, the chicken rockets off safely and you get the complete. The Feralas quest was the last one (for me), and all three were identical; find chicken, escort past a few random mobs, one ambush, and whoosh! These have gone from 'if you're not a pet collector, or gambling on a big payoff in the AH, why bother?' to a nice amount of xp from a random drop quest.

I completed this today on the Forgotten Coast, and was unaware that these quests had been marked obsolete or unobtainable, as i found the chicken two days ago and successfully escorted it to the road from a cave in the feral scar in feralas. I did have to click on the complete quest buttons a few times(thought maybe one of my addons, perhaps Carbonite, was preventing it or causing lag), but i definately completed it about 20 minutes ago. Im hoping i can find the last rescue quest and finally get the mechanical chicken pet, although i won't hold my breath.

THIS QUEST WAS NOT "marked obsolete". I just finished speaking with a GM and the quest has changed some yes, however it is still there to complete. Now, some people may need to REDO the entire quest in Feralas (beacon and escort) if they did it too long ago, but the quest DEFINITELY still exists! :)

Confirmed (31st if May 2011) ... This quest is still ingame.
Just started it on an alt on the Horde side in Feralas.
Also confirmed that it does count towards Feralas Quests too.

I picked up the HL leg of this questline as I was lvling up a new toon. Put it in the bank as I know it's a lot easier to farm the quest and complete it at a higher lvl. Kind of forgot about it until one day I was bored with questing as a lvl 85 and saw it in the bank. So off to HL to complete that leg with the idea of then going to Feralas then Tanaris and farm up those legs.

I get to Feralas and off to search for Yetis to farm. First one I dropped dropped the quest. Now why can't that happen when I'm farming Sprite Darter eggs or Tiny Emerald hatchlings. :(

This quest ACTUALLY HAS BEEN REMOVED. A nearly identical quest has replaced it. The quest number (that number in the url at the top, and in the script command in the comment near the beginning) is different.
The effect for most people is the same, the pet is still obtainable, etc. However, the obsolete mark at the top of this page is accurate.

As of Sept. 21 2017 - Contrary to the red text in the description above, all three of the beacon quests are obtainable and able to be completed. I just completed them and obtained my mechanical chicken.

Thought I'd share so folks aren't discouraged by the claim in the description above that this quest "cannot be obtained or completed."

This quest was marked obsolete or uncompleteable by Blizzard however;

I'd like to point out that this quest item dropped for me today Friday, August 16th, 2019 after farming approximately 300+ Noxious Whelplings (trying to get the Emerald Whelpling to drop) - but although the quest completion marker shows on the map - the npc to turn it into, was not actually there - but rather OUTSIDE The cave, and I was able to complete this quest.

You have uncovered some sort of strange, egg-shaped device made from metal. Fiddling with one of its knobs springs the egg to life, as it opens up into some sort of gnomish robotic contraption! A voice from inside the robotic egg crackles to life.

"My name's Oglethorpe Obnoticus, and my homing robot has crashed! I will reward you for its recovery; please take this beacon to the robot!"

"I now have computed the coordinates of the robot for you; it is in a cave near Feral Scar Vale!"
