You can pull the undead on the front (east) side without aggroing Araj. This makes it a little easier to kill him.

If you have a caster, you can stand on the edge of the nearby broken carriage and attack Araj the summoner directly without the guarding mob attacking you. His icebolts deal alot of damage, so Its best to bring a healer along with you. You will still need to kill the rest of the mobs after you kill Araj the summoner so you can loot his corpse and conplete the quest.

He was already dead when I arrived to kill him.
He corpse is some sort of a relic, right click on the relic to receive the Shard.

Also need to kill him for the key to Scholomance quest chain final quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5803, saves having to kill him twice. (chain starts at http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=5533)

As a side note, completing the quest http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=4972 provides a handy talisman that causes damage to Araj, and reduces the damage he dishes out by 25%, though only use it AFTER he has been wounded.

I went and got prepared for this quest, got three of the weakening items from that dragon-gnome, and it was so stupidly easy I forgot to use them. Any lvl59/60 should be able to solo this now, I didn't have to use pots (I'm a hunter) but non-pet classes might.

did that with 52 priest,51 druid 54 priest and me(55 hunter) it was easy but when he was about 30% i couldnt dps very well coz i was out of mana....but i hyad the priest healing me so there were no problem...

Really easy with use of Chromie's Attuned Dampener (http://www.wowhead.com/?item=12650). If 2 man's got it he will be nearly instantly killed.

Also, then you complite quest you will get 700 Argent Dawn rep and 350 rep with each Alliance faction or will got revered status with all Alliance factions (mean no reputation if you don't revered with every faction yet). Before Burning Crusade it was a really fast and nice way get a revered with Alliance factions to buy mount etc.

Easily solo'd as a 64 Feral Druid. Pulled the mobs on either side of him just to make sure, then went ahead and killed him. Four blows got him to 50%, the weakening talisman did the rest. Note that he may run away when nearly dead.

i killed solo as a lvl 57 enhance shaman, just killed the mobs up the path on the way in then pulled the summoner back up the same path dropped grounding totem as many times as i could and used earth shock to stop her casting, easy...

To get the item from Araj, you basically need to:

Kill him (Araj the Summoner).
Loot the object (Araj's Phylactery) he spawns on his death.
You are done!

Quick info
Now to do this might be a little tricky if you are alone, now he is supposed to be a 2 man (or higher) "boss". Luckly you can solo him as a ranged class! With some DPS and smart use of enviroment you can solo him without a problem (at least no problem for a Frost Mage, probably Fire too :P)

Approach the Ruins of Andorhal from the South-East road.
Clear a bit when going forward closer to the boss (Araj).
Take a quick look at these 3 pictures (the pull, the jump and the dps spot).
That's about it!

Knoxpwns nailed it. I left my 53 feral druid very close to the boss stealthed. Got on my 70 hunter, cleared the area, and got the boss. I logged off, got back on my druid and looted the "corpse". It's not a corpse but some sort of pedestal you have to activate. Easy exp.

In order to get this quest you must do All Along the Watchtowers first.

Solo-ed as a 60 protection paladin. Cleared the mobs around before going to him. Here's why I think I managed to do this alone:

1) He seems to have been nerfed.
2) I was in Outland gear (where +25 stamina isn't uncommon).
3) I had two glyphs that I believe helped alot: Glyph of Sense Undead and Glyph of Exorcism.

He mostly cast Frostbolt, so I had Frost resistance aura on. Hit me for 150 after resisting. Occasional melee attacks. Didn't summon adds.

Easy soloable with any specc for Death Knights.

Used the blood-specc at 58, and he wasnt any problem at all. Just clear some mobs around him before you charge in.

My advice is pick up your main kill the guy and go get the quest item whit your alt

I had just ran up to fight him on my64 level druid when I saw a deathnight running away and noitced that he and all his minions seemed to be missing.
Realsiing that he may have jsut been killed I went over othe area and saw his phylactery with I then took, and turned in the quest.

My advice for this is to make sure that you clear ALL the mobs around him in the town square. I tried to just clear a path to him from one direction and the rest got pulled as soon as I attacked him. Didn't go well.

This is also how I discovered the purpose for the repeatable Attuned Dampener quests. Once you use one, it's gone. If you fail the first time, get another or come with two. Not sure if two different characters could both use one, but that's the reason one character can have multiple Attuned Dampeners.

soloed with level 57 paladin, i didnt even use ENY cooldown except hadn of reckoning and exorcism, this is very easy u can pull all the adds by 1-3 groups with hand or reckoning and the last 3 i had to kill were the elite and 2 adds so its really easy...

Maybe the buffed it? But pulling mobs from either side aggro'd them all AND Araj as a level 57 shadow priest. I just hopped on my mage (80), pew pew'd them all and logged back onto the priest to loot. Easy peasy.

Just did this on my level 53 Shadow Priest. Granted, I cheated. I did the alt trick. Logged my priest off to the side, hopped on my L80 DK and AoE'd the isht out of Araj and his posse, then switched to my Priest and grabbed the phylactery. Easiest 14,280 EXP ever.

EDIT: Thought I should mention, it's extremely easy to get to this area if you have a high level DK, since they start with all the old world flight paths. Just open up a Death Gate, and take the flight path over to Chillwind Camp.

This is sadly still bugged in 9.2.

I can pick up the quest despite Wowhead flagging it as no longer being obtainable (same with the other turn-in quest leading to the lumber camp), but there is no way to turn it in. When I arrive at the camp, there are no NPCs visible. Web searches only show others having the same issue with WPL phasing and receiving automated GM responses which haven't provided any resolution. I will open my own ticket and update if it's successful.

Hello everyone, May 8, 2022. I was able to pick up the quest and go through the storyline of Western Plaguelands after following https://wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Western_Plaguelands_storyline?msclkid=69c99167cf3111ecb7552c7442f2fc17. When I got to the end to turn in "Alas, Andorhal" there were no NPCs at the Chillwind Camp. What fixed it for me was to log out, then log right back in and the NPCs appeared. I turned the quest in with no problems.

Just tried this quest is still bugged upon attempting to turn in the quest the npc was not there.

I tried to Reload, going out the zone & back in and the NPC wasn't there.

Relogging however did make the npc appear.

Alas, the time to attack Andorhal and drive out the lich that controls it is upon us!

Inside the ruins of the city is where the lich - Araj the Summoner - holds dominion. He is guarded by numerous Scourge surrounding the remains of city's center, and his personal retinue of guardians attached to him directly is formidable. You will need numerous allies to even stand a chance of facing him successfully.

Destroy Araj, <name>, and bring me a shard from his phylactery as proof!
