Private hendel has two bodyguards near him, if you start the quest with them being there they will attack you as well, so drag a mob to the guards before the quest and they will be focused on killing the monster. Then you start the quest and you'll only have to deal with 1 person. Otherwise you'll have to fight 3 level 35/36's and thats difficult for the lower level people

If you can kite him over to the nearby tower then the guards there will also help you kill him. I highly recommend you do this if your level is a little low for this quest. I have successfully completed this quest at around L32.

I got a very weird glitch as well, but useful! I lured a mob into the two guards who started killing it. Then I completed the quest line, got another quest, and only Hendel became hostile. I then began to attack him, but just as the guards finished off the mob, they ran over and began to aid me in attacking Hendel! I hardly had to lift a finger and the quest was complete. How funny. =)

i got the funniest bug, i kited the 3 to the nearby guard tower and the guards helped me to fight them, but before they were dead they started to run and dissapeared, after i noticed that the guys who show up after quest complete were there and i was able to dinish the quest and get the rewards without actually killing the missing diplomat :)

Not a difficult fight if you don't want to try kiting a mob to them or kiting them to the nearby guards, Just ignore the other two guards and concentrate on Hendel himself, once his health got to about 20-30% the fight is over (Lady Jania Proudmoore and a couple of others appear and teleport him away for punishment, and the two guards run off).

This quest gliched out on my lv 34, perhaps the guards and extra mob were too close to Hendel so he got in combat before I could accept the next quest.

As a lvl 36 rogue, when i started the fight, I immediatly threw blinding powder at one of his guards, turned on Evasion, and went straight for Hendle. Didn't even lose half of my health, and took him down before the other guard recovered.

for a hunter you should sick your pet on a guard when pet pulls aggro make him attack another guard until he pulls aggro then you attack hendle by yourself. i tryied it for him to take aggro on all but he died before i could defeat hendle

This is how I completed this as of May 8, 2008 on my level 30 Rogue.

Pull an elemental and let the two guards pick it up, might take an attempt or two because if you don't do it far enough away from Hendel he won't allow you to start the quest. Once the two guards are distracted start the quest by talking to Hendel and then run up to the tower right next to where they are all standing. The 2 guards at the tower will help you get him down to 20% ASAP. Once he gets to 20% he will run back to where you first spoke to him and Proudmore and her groupies will show up and take care of the rest; quest done. Hope this helps!

As of 5/19 at 10:50 PST, the quest is bugged.. My party kicked his butt three times and nothing happened. He was stunned.

The trio of people were there the whole time... but we couldn't finish the quest. Submitted a ticket, no response as of yet.

I found a funny trick was to pull the nearest mob near Private Hendel. Once the guards are focused on the monster start kiting Hendel around for a bit, once the monster has be killed run past the guards and since he is a hostile unit they will attack him, another guard was patrolling at the same time for me and attacked him too. Just make sure you have just enough hp left because when he runs back after giving up the guards will attack you for a few seconds.

i got a bug i ran to the gaurds they ran back i ran to them they were green so i abbonded q and he disappead

I tryed this quest a couple times and failed but the last time i attacked and got Hendal to stop attacking by beating him up and then i ran back to the road and frost novaed them in place and blink and ran around them for 40 seconds and they stopped and i completed the quest

I had a very weird glitch on this fight... I accepted the quest and the two guards started attacking me while Private Hendel stayed on the pier, i guess the Private was stuck on something, but after i killed both guards, hendel was still red, but i couldn't attack him. I waited a minute or two and then Hendel turned green again so i couldn't complete the quest. So i abandoned it, walked away and did some other quests, came back, accepted it again because the exclamation point was back over his head, and the fight was fine the second time.

Worth noting for those on a PvE server that attacking Hendel will flag you for PvP, so take care before you engage.

Yes, but only if you're Horde. Of the five total times my Alliance Pally attacked Hendel, none of those times did I flag for PVP.

well i gues its bugged cuz they say go to sentry point and when i am there they only say objective complete then i try to talk or fight hendel but he has only a gray ! on his head

Just did this quest on my lvl 38 elemental shammy

As soon as I accepted the quest from Hendel he started attacking me but his guards stayed green and attacked him aswell.
After Hendel turned green again his guards started attacking me untill Jaina and her crew appeared..

If you failed this quest,just wait for him to respawn after you get back to your corpse it might take a few minutes.

um on this quest im pretty sure that i didnt go through the 2nd to last part of the quest wher u get the gold ring and like 5k exp. but iv done the last part. wher u kill private hendel. and it just says complete. it doesnt tell me a place to go to finish the quest or anything.? so i was wondering if i did something wrong or if someone coulp help me? thx

When i did this quest I got a really strange bug. I followed the advice of others, to pull a mob into the sentries so I could fight Hendrel alone. That worked pretty well, but the sentries killed the mob before i could get Hendrel subdued so they started running after me. When I saw them starting to run after me I backed off a little to heal myself. I guess I backed off a little too far because they all started running back to reset. Out of nowhere i got a quest complete message, and I didn't subdue Hendrel at all.

Did as lvl 31 warrior, fist time i died as i pulled him to the nearby tower. Next time he spawned, he spawned alone for 5 sec or so. Pulled him to the nearby tower and guards took over. His 2 guards ran back to the tent. Afer he surrenders, i ran after him. Have a potion ready cus his guards attack you at the tent. Just hope that you have enough HP to get the quest completed before his guards kill you.. Hope this helps ;)

I followed Splitdragon and jdblue's advice. Kited the nearest mob to where Hendel and the two guards were. They attacked the mob, and I accepted the quest just before it died......the guards do in fact stay in the "help player" mode, and I was able to easily subdue him as a lvl 30 warrior....didn't even need pots or Gift of the Naaru. Easy peasy.

Right, apparently the quest seems somehow bugged (3.0.2). First time I tried it I had Retribution Aura on me and used Concencration, to damage the guards who help Hendel. I ended up killing both of the guards and Hendel stayd in staggered state and nothing happened.

I abandoned the quest and went again, this time I didnt damage the guards at all, just whacked Hendel and soon Jaina Proudmoore and CO. appeared and the quest was completed.

In short, dont damage the guards who help Hendel.

Just soloed as a 31 hunter.

I pulled a level 38 elemental to the tent and the 2 guards immediately attacked it. While they were busy, I accepted the quest from Hendel. My pet and I fought him until Jaina and her crew arrived.

One of the guards was killed by the elemental, and the remaining guard had turned hostile towards me, so I had my pet (hyena) hold him off as I spoke to Jaina. After I completed the quest chain, I healed my pet, put it on passive, and pulled the guard to the tower, where he was promptly killed by the tower guards.

And yes, you will be pvp flagged when you fight Hendel, so do have a look around before you start the fight.

Apparently this quest is a trouble maker. Even I had a glitch. I defeated him and the two guards. Then after the fight I looked to see if I could complete the quest. Private hendel was still in that daze and I couldn't complete it! I had to restart and do it all over again. :(

Solo'ed as a lvl 30 Ret pally (IMBA class FTW). No tactics were used, accepted quest and then beat him down... Cost me a Lay Hands and a baby-bubble (Hand of Protection), but I did it.

Don't know if this has been said before, but after "subduing" him (getting him to ~40% health) his guards disappeared.

I had the same bug as some other people - after getting Hendel down to around 25%, he cowered (stunned) as if the quest was complete. But the guards remain hostile (so I killed them) and the completion NPCs didn't appear.

So, I abandoned the quest, waited for respawn (maybe 5 mins) and tried again. This time I killed the 2 guards first. Then I started on Hendel. When his hp was down to around 25%, he suddenly went back up to 100% health again. I got him down to 25% again and he cowered and the completion NPCs appeared and I finished the quest.

So, if you are having the same problem as me, where the completion NPCs don't show up, try killing Hendel first and the guards after. Worked for me. I didn't use any kiting though. I could easily take on all 3 as a level 33 ret pala.

On PvE server casting AoE spells like Frost Nova, unless you're flagged, will do nothing to Hendel (which, unlike two adds, has PvP flag). Didn't understand at first why I can't freeze him in place; turned "PvP on" on the next attempt and easily completed the quest (frost mage).

Something weird happend to me. i tried to kill him and i died but its didnt say that i failed it so i abandoned it. then once i started it again for some rease his gaurds start attacking him.
O welll i got the quest done thats all that matters

Actually to prevent this quest from bugging out as mentioned by the above posts, I killed the guards first and then focused my attention on Hendel himself. And it worked fine for me.

The first time however I took out Hendel first and ignored the guards and this caused the quest to bug for me.
So I really advice everyone who has problems to kill the guards first and then focus on Hendel to.

As long as you don't do any damage to the guards while you are fighting Hendel, the quest will not bug, and as soon as Hendel is subdued, the guards will run off and Jaina will spawn.

I soloed him with a lvl 29 shaman, did it like this:
i pulled a mob to the guards, they attacked the mob, and i attacked Hendel, i got him to about 900hp when the guards killed the mob, and instead of killing me, the guards attacked Hendel... he became friendly about 3 seconds later and i completed the quest ;)

I also experienced this glitch on my level 67 Death Knight.

Just an FYI for those that would like to try again, I'm not sure if it was timing or actually triggered by abandonment. However, the NPC would not reset/despawn for me until I abandoned the quest.

I would suggest trying this, if you're stuck with the NPC "swaggering" in the stunned and subdued stage, without the other NPCs spawning to complete the quest.

When I attempted, I charged in and immediately used Death and Decay. At my level, it didn't take long to kill the guards. Though, I noticed that I killed Hendel a few times before he subdued ;) His health just kept jumping back up.

On the second attempt, I did not touch the guards, only Hendel. (After waiting on the respawn). I cut back on my damage a bit so I could keep an eye on his health for this round.

This worked perfectly. Buy not touching the guards, I was able to subdue Hendel, the other NPCs spawned and the guards ran off.

Might be worth a try if you're stuck :) Good luck everyone!

Engaged him with two guards beside him. I quickly found out I couldn't handle 3 level 36's (I was level 32) so I ran a bit away and used shadowmeld. Then I waited 5-10 seconds and suddenly both the guards were friendly and they killed Private Hendel, with me still getting the quest.

Don't outright destroy the guards before you defeat Hendel or he will glitch and you won't be able to complete this quest.

Him and his guards defeated me just before I could drag them over to the guards by the tower. Because the quest failed I'm not allowed to retry it!

Wow, just wanted to say at lvl 36, this quest gives 2900 XP and the follow up (which you turn in to Archmage Tervosh, Pained and Lady Jaina Proudmoore who conveniently Port to the campground where Hendel's just been killed) gives you 5850 XP and a very nice ring with strength and stamina.

I think this quest is particularly designed to reset if anyone tries to mess with (ie, cheat) Hendel and his guards. I am a Rogue and when I Vanished upon combat (hoping to come out of stealth with a stun), he disappeared after a short while, even while his name was red. So I came out of stealth and killed his guards but he didn't reset until after the guards did. I dropped the quest and picked it up when he respawned. They are not hard to kill at 36.

My 37 Rogue just did this quest.

Attempt 1: Subdued Hendel, but the adds kept fighting me, so I died. One of the adds went down first though.

Attempt 2: Corpse run back to the spot, Hendel rez'd, but not the adds. Started fighting Hendel, but every time his health got down to about half, it filled up to full again. This happened 3 times, and between the first and second time, one of the adds rez'd and joined the fight. Anyway, after the third time, I had to run, toward the tower, Hendel and the add chased me. When they gave up, I returned to Hendel, and for some reason the quest was complete at this point.

I had the lovely event happen of failing the quest. Then after abandoning it, the ! appeared back over his head so I sat and drank to refill mana. Then I stand up to go restart the quest and then for some reason he was gone. Like full blown disappeared.

I just soloed this with my level 31 balance/resto druid hybrid; hotted myself up to the eyeballs and tried to down Hendel as soon as possible - found that when he got to 20% the guards go "eep!" and run away. Took some pics for posterity ^.^

buggy quest. 3 times i did it 3 times he got bugged and stand there after i defeated him and i had to wait for at least 4 hours till he was reseted and i had to defeat him again so i can complete the quest.
