This quest is good to do while your hunting Thundering Bolderkin's for "A New Approach" (towards the top part of the map). You're bound to run into Steelsnap and his 2 counterparts collecting the items you need.

Steelsnap is located on the Western Side of Thousand Needles. He has 2 other guard hyenas and can be found wandering. Bring a group because you can't solo this without a buddy.

Found him and his posse at 19,26. As a level 28 hunter, it was a pretty easy experience.
I sent my pet in, and pulled one of the hyenas off of him(Frost Trap), then worked on Steelsnap, looted, and disposed of his buddies.

Rogue tip;

If you're not well-geared/high enough to solo, stealth behind the group when you find them and use the very edge of distract circle to stop one of the hyena. After about 5-6 seconds you can attack the lone one without pulling the others as they've walked off too far, thus making the quest totally easy. It will dash to catch up after the distract duration has ended, but the window of opportunity is enough to do the job.

did it solo as lvl27 rogue. distracted 2 adds so he goes ahead alone, poped evasion, one pot, killed, did vanish and waited for 2 to leave and looted. peace of cake, tbh :)

solo'd easily as a level 29 ret pally. No pots or anything. Took both his adds down too, had to bubble at the end but it was easy for the most part.

Pretty easy as a level 30 Shadow Priest. A fear works well to stop the guards beating on you while you burn Steelsnap.

Not much work as a 28 warlock, keep fearing adds and focus dmg on Steelsnap. Killed at location 18 26

Easily Soloable as lvl 30 Mage... frost nova, Pyroblast Steel and just burn him down... then AoE the 2 dogs

soled him w/ a 29 enhance shammy using corspemaker. If you wait by the entrence to highperch he will come along w/ his buddies. focus all your attack power on him and kill him quick. if your a healing class don't try to hal untill he is dead because of all the inturruption. If your really, really in trouble a shammy can throw down an earthbind totem and can get the fel out of there to heal up a bit.

As a 29 shadowpriest this was a joke. Inner Fire up, i Bubbled and feared. Killed him before i lost 1 HP. Then i proceeded to kill the other 2, still halfmana at end of fight.

Steelsnap spawns inside of the Camp E'thok and exits out of the camp on the west side, around 15,19. His respawn time is around 5 minutes.

I just solo'd him on a 29 (underpowered) mage...

Found him at (18,26)
Sheeped Steelsnap, then killed his 2 adds.
First aid + evocation, then killed Steelsnap.

It seems that they could have all just been AoE'd down, but I'm a nub at playing a mage, and this seemed to be the safe way of doing it. GL.

i have kill it at lvl 28... i have freez on of its guard scare other gurad and kill it... first i sent my pet to aggro and then i kill it...

its a good q... remember it isnt never alone and it is anywhere in western thousand needles... not cords!

Its not a big deal to kill Steelsnap. I did it with a medium geard shadow priest at lvl 27.
Hes usually wandering on the W part of the road near Feralas.
1 Casted holy fire and smite on Steelsnap form a distance
2 When he and his buddies got up close i shielded myself, then casted dev plague and shadow word on him.
3 Feared the 3 of them but because of the dmg Steelsnap returned, after just a mind blast and another few spells should do the trick.
I know itsd a noobish way to do this but its guaranteed to work nontheless

Should be aware that with 2.3 Steelsnap walks alone. He no longer has an escort. Makes this quest soloable and easily done.

This quest is easy to solo with a Shaman. Put a Stoneclaw totem and a Magma totem kick his ass then kill his budies. Did this with an 29 enchansment shaman .

Steelsnap and his two guards spawn in at 16,19. I solo'ed at 30 as an Affliction Warlock. Very Easy to do with a Void Walker. I killed all three like this. Target Steelsnap and sick your VW on him put on all curses and spells you can then wand to save mana, once this is done and he is dead, I targeted one guard with the void walker and DoT'ed him up and then feared the second guard while placing DoT's on him. Respawn time is about 5 mins or so. Good Luck and I hope this helps since they have a huge patrol path. As of 1/6/08 and the 2.3 patch I have noticed no difference on the quest, both guards patrol with him. As of 2.3 I received 2450xp. and Honored with the Horde.

Took the 3 of them with 29 frost mage.
Sheep one, frost nova to hold, blizz, CoC, both and fire blast steelsnap.
resheep and take out the other 2 easily.

27 priest, soloed it. it was very easy, I used the shield thingy and waited 15s so weaken soul will vanish, then they were coming towards me so i had to open with with a short cast spell :mind blast used Shadow Word : Pain after that and devouring horrors (or w/e =P) feared the two other adds and then the DoTs ate him up along with a smite and a mind blast..
looted him and ran :)

Easily soloable as a level 30 priest.

Shielded. Attacked Steelie with Holy fire, then pain'ed him, mind blast, fear, smite, smite. Dead. Shield. Get rib. Heal. Fear. Run.

Solo'ed as a 30 Fire Mage

What I did...

1. Frost Nova
2. Blizzard
3. When Blizzard runs out, cone of cold them as the approach me.
4. Blink away
5. Blizzard again
6. 1-2 Arcane explosions and they all die :)

This was pretty easy as a Level 28 Druid. Root and Hibernate the adds, killed Steelsnap in Cat, then lob a few heals on and kill the adds in Bear.

Pretty easy, did it as 28 warlock, just send your VW on steelsnap, then DoT him and finish of with drain life. DoT the first add and fear the other one and just DoT the $%^& out of him when he comes back:)

Solo'ed this quest at level30 (rouge), basically didn't use stealth to attack. Just evasion+sprint and then kill steelsnap, and loot. After that use Vanish :)

very very doable for a 29 druid, sleep steelsnap, entangle one bodyguard, quickly go to cat form and kill the not entangled body guard, while steelsnap is still sleeping, kill the recently free from entangled bodyguard, when both bodyguard is dead, steelsnap probably awake from hibernate, and you can kill him easily.

Tip:
Don't kill him then run away to lose his adds - the 'kill' of Steelsnap changes to a normal heyena.
You need to kill his adds too.

I just dropped a stoneclaw totem while i killed Steelsnap, looted, then ran off.

For Hunter:
1. Find Steelsnap
2. Wait until Steelsnap and his guards are in a good strategic position without any mob around.
3. Put down freezing trap and Fear 1 guard.
4. Send your pet versus Steelsnap and freez the other guard.
5. Kill Steelsnap, then the feared 1 and then the trapped 1.

Or:

1.Find Steelsnap.
2.Send your pet versus Steelsnap with mend pet. Order your pet to attack also the 2 guards for aggro.
3.Put a freezing trap (It's always good have a freezing trap near).
4.Kill Steelsnap and the other 2 guards.

I did it at level 28 and didn't have any problem. Just be carefull with the other mobs in the area.

For Druid:
1.Find Steelsnap
2.Sleep 1 guard and root on the other.
3.Fast go on cat form (if you are feral) and kill Steelsnap. / If you are not just dps.
4.Resleep the guard and kill the rooted 1.
5.Kill the sleeped 1.

I did it with my druid level 30. OOM at last mob; mana potion and go.

I completed this quest as a 32 warrior, solo....charged in on steelsnap, killed him down, looted his body, war stomped (tauren racial) and ran from other two hyenas. Was very simple.

I found the mob Steelsnap 30 lvl at Camp E'thok at Freewinf post aerial at but is a patrol mob with a gang of 4 other mobs like hyaena.

Hello, I couldn´t find the Steelsnap... I was walking in the plains for half an hour and then I found him with his two bodyguards. It was quite easy as a 32 lvl druid (the bear form is really good). I wish everybody to find him, because I was fed up with finding - I was going to abandon the quest and suddenly he appeared. I killed him easy... I found hin on 16:19

Was a bit hard as 26 druid. Had to fight them all at once. Had to use Lifeblood and warstomp+heal. (using Glyph of maul so i hit 2 targets) Glyph made it a lot easier to deal with adds

30 mage pretty tough..... I just attacked steelsnap and let his guards just attack me, made the kill, looted the item and then died but was able to do the quest at this level.

i soloed it as a lvl 27 warrior just atked them all at once useing retaliation and cleave also had to use demoralizing shout then used intimidatin shout the + thunder clap looted him then used piercing howl to get away from the others not that hard.

Easy enough for a level 27 holy priest, despite missing spells. I just focused on Steelsnap, looted, then escaped.

Strat is nothing surprising... Inner Fire, PW:S, open up with Holy fire, Mind blast, then SW:P. Now they are on you so fear two away. PW:S again when it drops, and keep Psychic Scream, Holy Fire and Mind Blast on cooldown. Renew yourself, DoT and wand when the shield is down with weakend soul.

Once dead, loot him and escape! Your mana will be nearly gone. Save your Desperate Prayer for the escape.

Many spells will miss at this level, but I did it easily my first try even though my first fear "missed" all targets.

I did this quest solo on a lvl 25 warlock with my Void. I found the group, pet attacked, and pulled Steelsnap, put up DoTs, Shadwobolts, and killed him. By the time he was dead, my Void had almost killed the other two. If you can find them alone, aggro the group out of your aggro radius with your pet, and pull Steelsnap away alone, you're money. I did this very easily. This is my first toon.

Easy peasy. I solo'd it as a 26 frost mage. Sheeped the higher level add, get a frost bolt in before they got near, then frost nova -> Blizzard, cone of cold to slow them so i could get away to resheep, then frost nova -> Blizzard again. I used mana shield just in case they hit me, which they really didn't, only got hit once or twice.

I was not really interested of running around Thousand Needles, looking for Steelsnap. I decided to pick a position which I knew he was going to pass sooner or later. I picked the ramp to Highperch area with the wyverns at 15,33, and grinded the cats, hyenas and wind serpents close to the area while waiting for Steelsnap to pass by.

Eventually he did come there with his two adds, and I managed to survive it by using Stoneclaw totem and Magma totem and nuking out Steelsnap first and then taking care of his pawns. Worked well, even if I had to use Lifeblood to stay alive.

Easy on my level 29 mage, just Frost Bolted him twice, Froze them all, Cone of Cold then I ran around spamming Arcane Explosion to finish them off. VERY EASY.

Doable as a lvl 28 combat rogue. Distract the adds, start the fight with Steelsnap, the moment the adds come, hit evasion. When Steelsnap dies hit Vanish. Wait for the adds to walk away, loot and done :-)

Who hadn't seen her trainer in a few levels ^^;

Anyhoo, threw my kitty a mend, prowled her, and sent her in after Steelsnap - I started attacking after two Growls - got Steelsnap down with little trouble (I'd weave Concus shots in when I pulled threat)- had to jumpshot-kite one of the adds around; threw a Wingclip when he got too close, while my pet kept the other one off me - got 'em both down, and we both left with half health, and a ... rib. WOO. xDD

EDIT: Oh, and I was wearing pretty crap gear - mainly quest stuff; wanted to avoid the hell that is the Wailing Caverns section of leveling o-o

HEY wrong i soloed it wit my lvl 25 hunter.
u just wait till he's gone by u (don't forget to put ur pet on passive)
and use arcane shot 2 pull him, after that u send ur pet in, but wait till hes close 2 u so that the other 2 dont come at u!

Descrição

At times we hunt for food. At times we hunt for honor. And at times we hunt to earn the Earthmother's teachings.

But the hunt I now set upon you is none of these things. It is to slay a creature outside the Earthmother's blessing.

The hyena Steelsnap roams the Thousand Needles, south of the Barrens. He is a tyrant, attracting other hyenas to him and spreading fear and bloodshed among more peaceful beasts.

Find Steelsnap, <name>. Find him, and defeat him.
