This is a fairly difficult boss in my opinion and here is a good setup for the boss:

Raid Composition:
----------------------------
-AOE class, preferably a mage (for counterspell on the cyclone)
-A resto druid to OFF heal (so that he can keep up the mini statues, explained in a sec)
-A priest to main heal (for shackles throughout the instance)
-A tank (either a feral druid/warrior)
-A Marks hunter (for silencing shot to interrupt his cycone)/ Rogue to kick
-----------------------------

Boss Abilities:
----------------------------
Charge - He randomly charges a party member for about 1k
Spell Bomb - He will put spell bomb on a caster in the raid. If the caster does a damage or healing spell, it will cost them 1k life and 2k mana, knocking them back.
Cyclone - (INTERRUPTABLE) He will cyclone a party member for 8-10 seconds. (Curse of tongues may help, this is sort of like shadow power/charged fist in heroic mech and should be interrupted as often as possible)
Paralyzing Screech - AOE Stun that will stun everyone for 5 seconds, this is what wiped us half of the time. Be SURE the tank has full hitpoints before the screech, which you will see him casting. This ability is similar to "time lapse" for chromaggus, and the tank needs to be topped off before this so he can survive until the healer comes out of stun.

Finally, @ around 66% and 33% he will "banish" himself becoming immune to everything and about 10 birds will swoop in and circle the party. This is where a mage comes in very handy for frost nova. They will move around constantly, and each bird has near 12k hitpoints, so freezing them in place will help with AOEing them down. BE SURE you kill them as soon as possible because after about 1 minute the boss will come out of his "banished" form and continue his attacking the party.

**There are three statues of birds around the room that will come alive when activated by a druid's "Heal Over Time" (HoT). Usually you will need a druid backup healing anyway, so have him keep these birds up by using RANK 1 Rejuvenation and RANK 1 Regrowth.

General Strategy:
------------------------
You MUST have a two healers for this fight, it's nearly impossible to do this without a backup healer mainly because if the main healer is cycloned or spell bombed, the off healer (usually the druid keeping up the statues of the birds) needs to pick up heals on the tank.

Have your rogue/mage/hunter/shaman (if he is on DPS) interrupt the cyclones as often as possible. A cyclones healer and spell bombed off healer in combination with paralyzing screech is a most definite wipe situation.

It take a lot of coordination, and would not recommend "Pugging" , unless you have everyone on comms or unless they know exactly what to do.

**Note you need to clear the ENTIRE room before attempting the boss.

--FYI you can as of 5/21/07 pick HERBS in epic flight form.

i did it with no other druid in party and i'm feral, used the reju rank1 trick only during banish, and nuked him rest iìof the encounter, it have 230k life can't waste dps 4 keep the birdies on (just the 10% speed one)

Did this with just me as the healer, kept all the birds up most of the time with rank 1 rejuv. Had a rogue for interrupting cyclone and a lock for AoE. Very easy when you get the hang of it. Does anyone have the exact buffs that the 3 birds do?

After few wipes used mages Amplify Magic spell on all party, and killed him at last. There is almost no spell dmg, only melee. So it realy helps on heals (+240 non improved healing, or +360 improved one).

The three spirits' abilities are as follows:

Eagle: Does damage to the boss; I don't know how much as I couldn't find it in my tooltip.

Falcon: Buffs the party with Speed of the Falcon, which reads "Movement speed increased by 25%. Time between attacks decreased by 25%. Casting time decreased by 25%.

Hawk: Buffs the party with Protection of the Hawk, which reads "Damage taken reduced by 500." Arthorn's Research given to you at the start of the quest imply that the Hawk "damages those who harm you," but this is how the tooltip reads.

This gives you a new Essence-infused Moonstone, so that you can forever summon that boss in the future. Making Druids a fantastic choice to take along to Heroic Sethekk halls for the extra boss

Shaman cannot dispell negative effects from a party member.

Additionally, I believe the Feathered Cyclone effect can only be dispelled by Mass Dispell, and is really not worth the mana cost.

This boss does drop a Badge of Justice and is pretty easy. 3 badges makes sethekk not a horrible choice.

Completed this tonight on the third attempt using the following party:

Tree Druid - Me. Main heals and off statue duty.
Feral Druid - Tank. (Guildie)
Balance Druid - Off heals and statue duty. (Guildie, and not actually on the quest.)
Arms/Fury Warrior (31/30) - DPS. (Guildie)
Affliction Warlock - DPS and AoE.

jef3189's write-up is an excellent guide, so rather than rehash that, I will note some things that helped our group finally down the Raven God.

-According to our warrior, the cyclone spell is *NOT* pummelable, so don't count on that to stop it.

-For the druid doing statue duty, it is highly recommended to create three macros that will automatically target and cast either Rejuvenation(Rank 1) or Regrowth(Rank 1) on them. This will eliminate the need to find the statues amongst the chaos, and your spells if not hot-keyed. The statues are named Hawk Spirit, Falcon Spirit, and Eagle Spirit. For example:

/target Hawk Spirit
/cast Rejuvenation(Rank 1)

-Spell Bomb will ruin your day if you're not paying attention. For the druid spamming statues, it's extremely easy to get hit multiple times before you realize what's happening. The effect only applies when the spell lands, however, so spells with longer cast times can be timed to land just after the debuff fades.

-This one may be obvious, but a cycloned target is immune to everything. Don't bother to heal or innervate someone in a cyclone, for example. This could be very easy to miss if you have debuff filtering enabled.

We fought Anzu in the room where you summon him, and so had to deal with the adds as well. It was a hectic fight, but once we had our strategy down, no one died. The guild members were all on Ventrilo, the warlock was not. However, with a little practice, Anzu should be a fairly straight-forward encounter. He dropped a Band of Frigid Elements for us.

The fight was frustrating, but can be fun once you work the kinks out. The spells and bird adds, while inconvenient, are not make-or-break unless you have a string of bad luck, so even groups with a less than "optimal" makeup should give it a go.

I found a way to make the fight easier.

Once you have cleared the room, have everyone return to the previous one, then, activate the orb, and run out to the rest of your group.

After a minute Anzu will spawn, as do the totems but he does not automatically aggro.

I was able to stand in the arch of the door and activate the first 2 totems (the right hand one starting to do damage to the boss) and he does NOT aggro.

this means a druid can regrowth (as it last 21 seconds) 2 of the totems before the tank pulls.

We did it with non-conventional group....

Druid (me as tank)
2 x mage
1 x rouge
1x pala (holy)

We clear all instance, then we summon raven god... we just pull him on stairs (where passage is opened after u kill Ikis), and no adds come... Classic tank & spank....

few facts... it does drop Badge of Justice and it has his loot table... so extra boss....
when u got your flying form, u get moonstone again forever, so that really means 3 bosses in sethekk halls, if u have druid with moonstone....

Finished this tonight, and one shotted Anzu. Our guild clears KZ and Gruul weekly, so we're geared fairly well for this. Group makeup was as follows:

Prot pally, combat rogue, affliction lock, resto druid, and me (feral druid). I alternated between dps and tanking for the instance. I started as dps on Anzu, and ended up being an offhealer.

Pulls of 2 or 3 were fairly straight forward. For packs of 4 of the sethekk, I would tank the first to die, pally would take two more, and we'd keep one feared. The key thing is to make sure the scryers die first, shadow mages second (because of the debuff), and talon lords third. after that priority, the rest doesn't matter much.

At the end, we all felt that feral dps is not useful in this fight. I expect that we'll be back in there daily to try for the mount (and the heroic badges don't hurt either), and I'll be packing some balance/healing gear for the next run at Anzu to have a large enough mana pool to more effective offheal when the resto druid is cycloned. The rogue also noted that the cyclone is very fast, and hard to interrupt as a result. The safe bet is to assume that at least half of them will get through.

Just did this fight last night for my epic flight form. Was actually quite easy after the recent retuning on the fight. Had myself, feral druid tank, rogue, elem shaman, and a mage. I made macros to regrowth each statue, which made things MUCH easier imo. I would simply toss some hots on the tank, do a round on each statue, then head back to the tank for 20 seconds. I find it much simpler to use regrowth over rejuv, because of the extra 9 seconds. The banish phase seemed very simple, I barely saw anyone's health move at all during the time, even the aoeing mage. Also note that the spellbomb is now a curse and can be removed, which is a huge help as well.

You really need a druid on statue duty in addition to a main healer. The fight was too difficult for our resto druid to solo-heal, so I (a feral druid) put on my healing gear and played as a secondary healer. Keeping HoTs on the statues was my priority, and throwing occasional HoTs and decurses on party members was secondary. We had a warrior tank and two frost mages. The fight can be rather long, and I chugged at least three Major Combat Mana Potions (I gave my Innervate to the main healer).

IMO this is a stupid easy boss for the reward. Completed it on the 1st try with the following group

MT: Prot War
DPS: Rogue/Hunter
Heals: 2 Druids (1 Resto/1 Feral)

First things first, all of the regular bosses do not need to be cleared in order to do this boss. Just clear the room that he is in.

He is mainly a tank and spank boss except at around 66 and 33%. There are 3 bird statues that spawn when he spawns, a Falcon, Hawk, and Eagle. When he reaches both 66% and 33% he spawns a group of birds, so bring to life the eagle statue that does about 300 dmg a sec. In between these percents, keep to life any of the statues you want. To do this I suggest the druid(s) make macros to cast Rank 1 Rejuv on whatever statue. After the 2nd group of birds, just dps him down and collect your rewards. Have fun.

Ultimately this fight has been massively nerfed in the last patch, resulting on him being, in my personal opinion the easiest heroic boss available.

He has less HP, he hits for less, the summoned birds during his banish also hit for less and have less HP. tactics are exactly the same as above, you will just find that it does not strain your group anywhere near as much (or at all) than the original fight did.

I still do heroic Sethekk regularly, its worth it simply for the chance of the mount, as well as 3 badges in a really short instance.

We did this with vl 69 pally healer, warlock, rogue, druid tank and me.
im feral druid, but in healing gear i have 1300 healing, 10k mana, and it was doable for us. Warlock aoe, pala healing tank, while i lifebloom on party needing it, and rejuvenation rank 1 on the birds.

I tanked this for my druid friend and as a Prot paladin, this fight presents some benefits and new challenges.

Consecrate and Retribution Aura make tanking the birds a breeze and when the stun occurs, solidifies my threat.

Judged seals on Anzu count as spellcasts each time I swing. Whenever I was cursed, I had to be very careful to stop autoattacking until it was removed. All in all, a very fun fight.

after farming Anzu for several times.
i recommend casting level 1 regrowth on the statues.

lv1 regrowth 2sec cast, 21sec effective, no gcd trigger.
lv1 rejuvenation instant cast, 9sec effective, gcd trigger.

the total cast time is more or less the same, and you ll have more time for healing the group or throw some dps, instead of keep rej. spam on the statues.

There is no need to break a sweat for this quest, it was very easy.
We had an ideal group for Sethekk Halls.
Druid (me, feral, tank)
Priest (healer)
Mage
Warlock
Hunter.

Tank, shackle, sheep, trap. And it does not even require that. But Anzu was a walkthrough. He does an occasional small hit to a random party member I think but I didnt see any visible damage inflicted, as I might've been busy tanking, but at 66% and 33% he goes banish and summons adds. When he goes banish you have ~5-10 seconds before birds come down, so you can get the spirits alive, or just wait for mage\warlock to AOE most of the birds, then try to awaken 1-2, because after the last bird dies, Anzu comes back from banish. They are not required and i found them no help at all really. Priest had no problem keeping mage alive during AOE'ing and I didnt take much dmg while tanking Anzu. He went down.

Also with the Spell Bomb debuff he puts on people, it is a cure and it can be dispelled. I did it when i was helping out another Druid.

Guys consider this...the Eagle statue (please click and read) appears to have two methods of working:

using rejuvenation or regrowth will make the statue attack the boss once every 3 seconds.

using lifebloom appears to make the statue attack once every 1 second.

so my theory is for someone to test regrowthing the hawk and falcon, while keeping lifebloom on the eagle to triple its damage to the boss.

someone please try to confirm this.

Priest 1500 healing: it is possible to only have one main healer doing this, as long as you have some type of dps type that can offheal if necessary. The boomkin that was with us needed the quest done, and she threw in a couple heals on the statues to keep them going while I healed. I was cycloned twice, and we were fine, just gotta have a stable group. :)

I did this last night with a kind and patient group of people, the only pure DPS we had was a Mage and he was legless. Anzu wasn't too hard but it took us a while to get there and then we got the "7 minutes until maintenance" message it was panic at the disco. We killed him with about 10 seconds before the server shut down. Thankfully I logged back in after DT and I was a whole swift flight form richer.

I would advise against doing this one right now, you may not receive credit.

My group was slightly undergeared for this place and had a hell of a time getting through, only to receive no credit when we finally killed Anzu. When I petitioned a GM about it, they said that there is an issue where it sometimes does not give credit, and that I would have to try again. Save yourself the trouble I had and wait for the hotfix.

The bit about the better dps from lifebloom seems to be lost in the morass. You really improve your dps by using a mix of regrowth and lifebloom. They both ultimately make seven ticks each, but the lifebloom ticks are faster. Use regrowth for a more passive addition to your dps while using lifebloom on however many you can handle while still keeping everything up and doing your job as off-heal.

I ran all the way to Anzu tonight. We wiped and came back, second time I (tree , 1550 heals) ran to far in so when the adds spawned and everyone was stunned, I was to close and got killed. Third try, we parked in the entry to the room. Unfortunetly the paladin tank forgot to step inside before the second banish ended so Anzu reset. At this point one of the mages had died to and I had already used Innervate. It was now 0.45 and a friday night, one mage left and then the others felt that it was over.

I used:
11 Golden Fish Sticks
10 Elixir of Draneic Wisdom
10 Elixir of Healing Power
God knows how many regrents

Important: Always stand in the entrence and make sure your tank grabs the adds as soon as possible.

I realized that it's very mana consuming and annoying to switching out of form to decurse. Make sure that someone (mage etc.) who is quick dispells if you need it. We sure did need it, but none decursed anything. Great group tho, talkative and supportive. Both mages were quick on their feet with sheeping, the tank was excellent to. As for rogue I can't say becuase I hadn't my damage meter on, but a hunter (for cc ettc) or a shaman for utility would probably be better. Enough of my ranting, hope it helps someone.

Edit: For some reason, after our second wipe Anzu's name plate turned grey to me. However, it turned green again after the third wipe.

I just finished the pre quests today. I'm having difficulty with the boss, what are the ideal classes to take? If it helps. I'm a resto druid. And I'm probably guna bring a Ele shammy yes/no? I don't know what to do, I'd love some advice.

I done this two days ago, had problems getting a good party since I pug'ed for it. However after 4h of hard work in LFG system and about 2h of this time actually playing. I managed to kill him with group composition of:

-prot pala
-mage
-disci priest
-fury warrior
-feral me (wearing healing/boon gear)

We killed it in first try, but.. I did not get quest completed. Because of a BUG!
Another few hours I had to waste waiting for any response from GM's which was: 'You need to complete this quest again, we can not complete quests for you'

Right now I'm too angry to try this again, however I'm flooding GM's with new tickets to get this thing fixed at least.

As I can see some of you had similar problem and they did nothing to fix it...

PLEASE RANK THIS UP:

In patch 3.0.2, I encountered an error where the Essence-Infused Moonstone did NOT appear in my bags. I talked to a GM, and he was able to find the item...in my key ring! So assuming this glitch persists and you find yourself missing the item, check in your key ring to see if it's in there.

Completely the last place I'd look, even the GM was surprised...

After turning this quest in, you can take a follow-up quest: Eternal Vigilance , wherein he will give you the Essence-Infused Moonstone for summoning the Raven Lord. The item goes in your keyring and will be yours permanently. This is how you can continue summoning the Raven Lord even after turning in the quest.

So, to answer some questions:
1. You can still continue summoning the Raven Lord even after you've turned in the quest, as long as you take this follow-up quest and take the moonstone from him, of course.
2. You can still do this whole quest chain even if you learn Swift Flight Form from a trainer.

The idol you get from this quest was changed in Wotlk to fit the new talents - You now get bear/cat form bonus And Moonkin bonus And tree of life bonus.
This is really helpful because resto/balance druids still use shapeshifts and now get a bonus to both their spec and the shapeshift.

Done this with a pala retri and a shadow priest without any problem, i was healing and the pala was tanking...

Also note, that if you have done this quest before but deleted the relic because you thought you wouldn't need it - you can write a ticket to Blizzard to get it back since this is an awesome relic even in lvl 80 if you haven't got anything better.

People may keep in mind that this quest(-line) will be a lot (!) more expensive than just buying the Swift Flightform alibity from your trainer.

The Bogblossoms are easy to find, however. They're everywhere in Zangarmarsh on top of the taller of the mushrooms.
However, if you abandon the quest the flowers will be deleted with it (so you can't help others with the Bogblossoms you've farmed but not used).

Somethings of note:

Anzu will continue to cast his paralyzing screech while banished. This can make fighting the adds a pain.

His Spellbomb is a curse and can be removed without taking damage. Also, he only targets casters(i.e. mana bar) with this. So for feral druids trying to solo Anzu he'll only hit you with this if you shift out to heal so keep an eye out for it.

When he self banishes you have a few seconds before the birds come into agro range giving you a moment to heal before jumping into the adds. You can also move to the far end of the room before the birds finish entering for a few extra seconds to heal before engaging them. Alternatively you can kite Anzu to the far end of the room and this, in theory, should put you out of agro range with the birds when they first spawn. I don't know if you can just ignore them for the remander of the fight or if they'll auto engage at the end of the banish or some such. I'd suggest killing them, they're not especially hard.

And another note for druids tanking/soloing him you can cast Barkskin while paralyzed to mitigate some of the damage you'll be taking.

While I've got some attention for a sec I would like to ask one more question, just to clarify so I don't waste time leveling with a slow mount: is it true that when you learn your first flight form that your fiding skill upgrades to flying skill as well? I can just buy a flying mount and fly without having to buy training? TYVM ^.^

Here's one more druid that soloed it at 80: me, Joca from Wildhammer EU.

The odd thing, and the reason I'm making this post, is HOW I did it: 95% soloed in Tree of Life form! :)

Having mostly blue quest gear, and a couple purples, my tanking was not enough to handle it, even with 25K HP, 25 K Armor, 4.9K AP and 40% crit. I burned through every CD and failed miserably. More times than I care to admit! :) Well, at least a dozen or so times...

And then, after re-clearing the whole room again on a 2nd set of attempts, and after a couple more deaths to Anzu, I decided to try something different: summon, move away from the center and keep regrowth on the Eagle statue. To my surprise, the statue kept damaging him without him aggroing me! It's a slow process, I timed it at around 40 minutes, but in the end I got the quest done! Since I wasn't in combat, I even switched to my resto secondary spec and gear so as to avoid spending a ton of mana pots.

A few more notes:
1) fearing that it would not work without some direct damage, I ended up switching to main feral spec and gear when Anzu was at around 35 K or so. WARNING: even though at that point he's at much less than 33%, he spawned a set of birds!
2) The hardest part was clearing the room, so here is some advice:
2.1) Stealth to the far left corner. At 80 you can easily go caster form without aggroing if you stand near the corner;
2.2) Mobs to pay VERY close attention: prophets are the 1st to go down! Talon Lords hit for a bunch and Birds also have some stuns.
2.3) Root the talon lord but as you start the root immediately select the bird to have it ready for SLEEP;
2.4) Sleep the bird and as you start the sleep immediately select the Prophet;
2.5) Switch to bear, pop Beserk and spam Mangle on the prophet: he should be done by the time Beserk finishes and since you're immune to fear for the duration, that was one of your worst nightmares done!
2.6) Don't forget you can also use Barkskin and you can use Nature's Grasp to separate the mobs.

In the end, I did the final boss as well for the achievement: simple tank and spank and didn't even bothered running away from his arcane blasts and never dropped below 80% or so on that final boss.

So, if you don't have the gear to tank it, try and do it the slow way and do him in Tree Mode! I will probably be going there another time and see if the mount drops; I'll try and do it entirely in tree form to see if it works and I'll post back.

hi mates.. i completed the quest and got the moonstone in my keyring bag. now when i go to farm the boss and turn it to heroic mode in sethekk halls and go upstairs in the boss room, i dont find the claw again in the middle of the room to place the moonstone :S anybody can help me please?

I'm doing these quests at 79. I'm getting a good amount of XP per quest about 22k. Plus the amount of gold. Druids, if you get the G to fly epicly, want your Feat of Strength quest (plus its part of the druid experience), this will not derail you too harshly from your leveling flow. If you set aside an afternoon for this then you can do it easily.

Edit:Its about the same as doing the quests that give no XP per kill on the vehicles.

According to information in here, wowhead, this quest gives total of
2210 Reputation with Cenarion Expedition, and 149.28 gold (lvl 80)
And if you do this at lvl 70, you net total of 127 700 experience

Patch 3.3 is the same thing You can buy your swift form for 17g at any druid trainer. but this quest is still available so if you want to farm some rep with CE this is a good way to do it

Fairly easy solo as an 80 bear tank (3.5k GS). Took a while due to the amount of health he had. In addition to the mobs in the room, you may want to kill the two outside the entrance. They hit hard.

Start off away from the boss, out of the aggro range, near the entrance of the room. Put some HoTs on the two closest birds for some buffs, but don't bother refreshing them since you'll be under attack the whole time.

Keep Lacerate/Mangle/Demo Roar up the whole fight and swipe spam when the birds come around. Use Barkskin either before you get stunned or just when you feel you want a boost. I used Frenzied Regeneration and a health potion (coulda done without the potion).

He hits pretty low, but it adds up over time. If you have trouble or want a max survival possibility, you can heal yourself/the spirits when there's only a few bird adds left and he's banished. This way you will take a small amount of damage from the adds, and none from the boss.

These quests count towards The Seeker achievement (and other related achievements) but don't seem to count towards any of the Loremaster or zone-specific quests.

I have some doubs regarding this quest.

I have a level 71 druid, and I don't know exactly what to do so I can access the chain quest.

Can I buy the swift fly form at any trainer at lvl 71, and will that give me access to the quest?
Do I need to spend 4500G on artisan riding skill to access the quest?

Hope someone can help me with this.

As a druid with ~4.5k GS, 31k (unbuffed) HP, mostly 5 man heroic gear.

Buffs:

Poached Northern Sculpin (Other food is fine, it was for the stamina)
Runescroll of Fortitude
Flask of Stoneblood

This brought me up to 35k HP. If you can get a pally to give you Kings, that's even better.

Clear all the trash in the room (including the two guards near the door if you're cautious like me). Prophets can fear, so they should go first.

Before you start the fight HoT yourself up.

Anzu is mainly tank and spank. The bird's powers aren't needed.
Anzu stuns for ~5 seconds frequently. Just wait it out.
He hits anywhere from 800-1.2k, but you should be dodging a lot and having your shield ( or any other shields you might have) absorb the rest.
At 66% and 33% he spawns ten or so crows. They hit for about 120 each. You can pop Beserk and Mangle/Swipe spam them. A great strategy is to Regrowth the Eagle Spirit. It will deal 300 damage to the crows for as long as your Regrowth is up, making this phase a breeze.

I didn't drop below 90% for the whole fight, but if you find yourself in a pickle you can use Survival Instincts + Enrage + Frenzied Regenration.

Since the release of patch 4.0.1, this quest keeps disappearing from my quest log every time I zone into Heroic Sethekk Halls. I can still summon and defeat Anzu so I'm assuming the chance to farm for the mount is still there.. However I would like to finish the quest line for the feat of strength :-) I'm hoping it's just a bug that will be fixed soon.

U do not need a stinking druid anymore to summon this dude once you go in and clear he is just standing there in that room and the quest and achievement has been removed

We must waste no time in dealing with the raven god. You must take the essence-infused moonstone to a place of great power in order to lure the god from the relative safety of the Emerald Dream.

Descend into the Sethekk Halls and set the moonstone in the clutches of the raven's claw. You'll find it in the chamber before the talon king's hall.

Anzu must be made believe that his followers have gathered to welcome him back into the world. Once he has manifested, show him no mercy!
