The pommel drops from the chests that spawn when you kill the level 20-22 Rotting Slimes (http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=3928) in southeast Ashenvale.

As entropic said, the pommel will be inside the chests that drop from the rotting slimes. The pommel is not guaranteed to be in the first or even second chest that drops, so just keep looking. These slimes can be found by following the main road east out of astranaar. You will come to a fork in the road that looks like a rounded off "Y". The south road, if you check the sign, will head to the barrens. Follow this road til you come to about the middle of its length. When you are at the middle of the road, look directly east. There should be a small lake with some level 27-30 timberling elementals. Direcly west from this spot is where you will find the slimes. Kill them until they drop a chest with your pommel in it. This is the last piece of the Rod! Celebrate, then head back to shael'dryn for the next step in the chain.

The pommel dropped for me with the first slime I killed at 67, 77.

When I found it, the chest was just laying on a corpse that I happened upon. If you get lucky you can let someone else do the work of killing the slimes!

I found it also but the problem is i must be blind because i cant find the moonwell ive been there like 12 times but i guess im lost i cant find it please help

I signed up for this site just so I could bitch about how terrible this quest description is. Blizzard, I shouldn't have to come to sites like Wowhead and it's inferior competitors to find out what to do on a quest. I made the natural assumption that I would need to go into the barrow den... which, for an admittedly unskilled L27 druid, is a suicide mission.

Thanks to the posters before me who are going to allow me to complete this quest (hopefully). And no thanks to Blizzard who repeatedly make design decisions that would appear to the paranoid to be shallow, moneygrabbing timewastes.

Upon completion Shael'dryn will start talking a bit:

Shael'dryn sais: The rod's design is simple. Dartol didn't use his arcane knowledge in its creation... it is more druidic in nature.
Shael'dryn sais: Hehe... I made a pun, didn't I? Druidic in nature... I'm so funny.
Shael'dryn sais: Now then... the rod. Let's see about fixing it, shall we?

For those of you concerned about XP gain, the box drops off the slimes and you do NOT need to be in party at any point to loot it.

However, only one Iron Pommel drops per box so if you are with more than one person the escort will have to kill multiple slimes.

Worth to note that;

You do NOT need to actually loot the slimes before the chest drops...

So do not get frustrated if you dont get it at your first kill... Kill a few more and the chest will spawn upon their corpse when they die.

I just did this quest on my 28 rogue, and I found something peculiar. When you finally get the box to drop, if you dont loot everything, and kill another slime, the box will spawn. That, or i had an extremely good stroke of luck. I think the first one is more likely.

For those of you traveling in groups while doing this quest - Let it be know, that only one quest item can be looted from the chest before it despawns. So if you traveling in a group, prepare your self for trying to find more than one box!

I'd also suggest trying to spawn a second box like Caped had done. Post us to let us know if this bug still exists!

when you kill a slime (mine was the first one i killed) a chest will be over the corpse open that and you get the pomel I YOU DO NOT LOOT IT you just open the chest on top of the corpse

EXTREMELY misleading. I'm doing Darnassus rep grind as a 70 hunter...Went into the Barrow Dens are searched for over a half over to find the location of this chest. Blizz really needs to fix this up, cause even though it's said in the journal, the majority of WoW does NOT read these things.

Took 10 kills for me to get the pommel on two characters, as I was boosting the quest for my alt and want the rod. Doesn't take as long as it used to if i'm correct.

Upon turning in this quest do not accept the next one if your just after wand, saves a space in your log, if you continue the chain but still want the wand, you'll end up having to keep the quest to keep the wand. The wand is a reward from this quest even though it is not listed above.

I've killed about 20-30 slimes, 70% have dropped the boxes, but all i get is silk cloth or rusty junk.

To get this pommel you must kill the rotting slimes and they will loot a chest with that itom found there...

i cant get the iron pummel from the chests .ive made it many times and it didn't drop.what should i do?

I've tried killing many rotting slimes in the designated area and I've gotten no iron pommel! I noticed the previous posting had the same problem too? Maybe it's got to do with the 3.3.5 version? Any advice and help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't be discouraged by the comments that say it was the first or second kill. Took me about twelve kills today, just keep at it.

With the recent changes, this quest IS still in the game, but the item is not a drop. It is in a cave with a bear named Oso in The Shady Nook. Kill the bear, loot the chest. If you're low level, be careful. The bear respawns super fast.

The last piece of the rod is held by druids of the claw. I asked their leader, Oso Bramblepaw, to give it to me, but he and his guardians nearly killed me! Clearly they too were affected by the Horde's corruption of the Forest Heart.

But, I have an idea for how you can get into Oso's cave and grab the pommel.

Ever since I was a faun, I've been pretty good at playing possum. It works great against bears! I can teach you! Go east to the Shady Nook, and if they try to get you, just use my technique.
