To reach the vale you travel north toward Felwood and look west until you see a sloping path. The path has a few worgen and leads up to a cave at 53, 38. Go through the cave and you'll find the shrine on the other side. The book is on a table just in front of the shrine.

Sentinel Melyria Frostshadow was to Forest Song at the time if the new patch (2.0.1)

Quite easy solo, most mobs can be pulled as a single or at most in 2's.
As per other comments, head to the cave shown on the map, close to the border of Felwood

i don't recommend trying this one at lvl 30, even as a hunter with an awesome pet, the pack leader is lvl 31 and if you accidentally hit him without taking out his whole pack first they will swarm on you...take it from me ;o)

I did this at hunter level 28. Just send your pet to attack Packleader, then read the book and RUN! Easy :)

Don't know if this quest has changed, but on my way to the tome I was able to pull the lvl 28 mobs one by one, and then when I reached the tome I just pulled the lvl 28 mob closest to it so I could read the thing without aggro'ing anyone.

It's not difficult at all even if you do not have stalth as i had.You kill all the wolf-like thinmgs on by one and when you pass through the cave you just turn left and have only one more mob to deal with.

No sweat for a lvl29 elemental shaman. Get out of the vale after getting the book though, they respawn very quickly.

55,32 you will see a path that leads up to the cave where you will find the book on a table. This is the correct cords.....

Note that both Sentinel Melyria Frostshadow and Illiyana have been moved to Forest Song, at around 86,44

Soloed as a 29 Druid just be careful with the pulls and theres shouldn't be a problem.

Just done this mission with my lock at level 30. So here's some clarification...

Firstly 55,32 is the path up to the cave, go here and head up the path to the cave.
Secondly once through the cave you do not have to fight all the way down the path and around to the book, just head to the left as you come out of the cave drop down off the side to end up behind the book.
Thirdly, the pack leader is a Silver Elite who I have seen once and this was that time, I was a little confused with the comments about him until I did it again. I pulled him by himself and killed him. Got a nice Necklace for it too!

As someone already said take it easy in there and you'll be fine. When I was done I Hearthstoned out... lazy maybe... late for work yes :)

I just did it on my 30 druid, and I didn't even see the Pack Leader anywhere. Killed the few mobs coming up the hill, 1 in the cave, and 2 outside cave. Then just dropped down the hill to the left, killed 1 mob next to the book, read, and went back the way I came.

The coordinate for the book is 50, 39. The cave start at 55, 32. Once you are out the cave, walk at your left, you gonna see the book on a table.

The path starts at 55.32 near the enter of Felwood, the Cave is at 53.38, easy to do ..... stilling on a table near the path down once you gone though the cave did this at lvl 30 *mage*
Very easy ..... Good luck people... And do take you time in killing unless u dont have much time

Completed it as a 27 Hunter w/ 26 Ghost Saber. I ran into one problem when I pulled three at once but I droped back behind the shrine and the Worgen got confused and couldn't follow me, they just run back and forth ona tree limb. Not sure if this works every time though cause I never got a chance to actually test it or see if I just got Lucky. Just pull one at a time and you got it. Hope this helps.

Coords are
50,39 for teh book
52,37 For the Cave mouth
And 55,32 For teh Trailhead.
For people w/o Coords it's a trail with Werewolf thingies on it just left of teh road to Felwood Near all the Treants.

Easily done at 30. Mobs can be single pulled or in pairs with one trapped.

on the road at 55.8, 32.4 look due west and you will see the path. While it is sort of near the place where you got the iron rod it is a couple hundred yards away. Why mind sooth your way through when you can mostly single pull them without mind soothe and always single pull with mind soothe and they drop about a silver per, good experience, and a couple green items if you kill them all?

If your a bit low, its no problem to sneak to there by killing just 2-3 mobs

Im xsuperhunter and i posted a pic of where it is i its kinda hard to find somethig when wow just say go here or there so i had to ask a lev 66 to help

As of 3.0.3 atleast they seem to have buffed it to 100% drop rate when I did it for repluation on my Druid. Took 16 kills to get 16 horns to clarify :)

Go north on the road from Raynewood Retreat until you are at 55.9 32.6. You should see a road heading West, follow that road until you reach the cave... The Howling Vale.

I struggled with this as a 26 warrior, albeit a noob. First time got to the book by dropping down, but aggroed two mobs that eventually overpowered me, one lvl 29 which I killed, one 30 which got me first. As it's a huge corpse run back, didn't fancy doing it too often, so ended up resurrecting and managed to read the tome whilst they were attacking me, didn't expect to be able to.Ressurected at graveyard and wandered back into astranaar with job done.

This whole chain counts as a quests for Loremaster of Kalimdor even though it takes you into Eastern Kingdoms

I did this as a 26 druid. You prowl through the cave. The 29's see you but you can just kill one at a time. Then jump down to the left as soon as you exit the cave. Pull one 29, watch out there is one wolf that pats. Pull the second 29 and then you can complete the quest.

Getting in the cave is easy, you have to kill 1-3 wolf things then once your in the cave drop down the cliff behind the mob and click on the tome. Once the hologram finishes hearth out.

follow the path to the north to felwood at 55.8, 32.2 (just before the entrance to felwood) stop and turn to the left. there is a path going up a slope. the path is hard to see though. follow it up and around to the left. at the top is a cave. go through the cave and on the other side is where the tome is located. should be down another slope and to the left.

This is the start of an interesting quest line. It explains how the worgen came to Azeroth. It will be interesting to see how this ties in with the Alliance worgen in Cataclysm.

Though we have put many resources and much effort into driving the remaining demons from the Felwood to the north, our successes have been few. We have been able to keep much of the demonic presence from Ashenvale.

To the north, near the Felwood border, the ruined shrine of Mel'Thandris has been overtaken by mysterious wolf-men. Their chilling calls have led the area to be known as the Howling Vale. The Tome of Mel'Thandris kept at the shrine may shed some light on why these wolf-men have come.
