Over the years, the blog has evolved as our database has expanded--but there's only so much you can do with the same old layout and direction. So we've moved it over to some new digs and a new URL all to go along with our new goal: to provide content right as it breaks to both our community and the World of Warcraft community at large.

Behind the Scenes: Improved Datamining, More PTR Coverage & Consistency
We've done major tweaks to everything, but what we're most excited for is the change in direction we're heading for. Our datamining process has been streamlined to be quicker, we've expanded our PTR coverage, and we're changing the way our data is presented. We're not going to lie; in the past, the blog has been scattered in its focus. We've now refined our focus. Our guides will hit harder (like
our in-depth overview on 4.1 gearing up
does) and our content will be quicker as well as stronger.
In short: we'll be on the PTR so you don't have to and we'll break down those spell changes so you don't have to. With Wowhead News, our goal is to take the abstract and make it tangible while providing you with news right as it breaks. All of this is so that you won't be left in the dark when patch day comes--or when a hotfix hits live.
We've also forced our graphic designers to make us more graphics, so that everything looks a lot better!
Two Themes: Dark & Light
There are two distinct themes for Wowhead's new blog. The dark one you'll find familiar; it's similar colors to Wowhead's current scheme with some added flair. Since it keeps in line with our original style better, we've made it default. However, there is also a light layout available for those of you looking for a brighter and cleaner way to read your content. Switching between them is as simple as toggling in the upper right hand corner of the website labeled "Switch Theme." Go ahead and try it!
The Sidebar: Blue Tracker, Guild Recruitment & Trending Topics
Right in the sidebar we've added features you need to stay current;
our Blue Tracker
,
the guild recruitment forums
, and trending topics now reside there showing you what's the latest at a glance. To get your guild to appear in the sidebar, you have to be a

member.
We've also added an easier to browse tag list, a prominent search bar, and links to our social media accounts there. We're still looking for additional features to plug in there so if you have any ideas, let us know in the comments!
The Feature Box: Helping You Stay Current
On a busy news week, important things can get lost. If the PTR is churning out content and there are hotfixes on live plus we've got a lot of affiliated content streaming in, the blog can seem more like a war zone than an information resource. To solve this, we've added a feature box to put really important posts above all so you don't have to go digging. Contests, patch notes, hot fixes, and other features you shouldn't miss will be highlighted here so that if you've missed a few days of reading, you won't have to dig through the deluge.
In addition to the feature box, we've also made a headline only post. It works the opposite of the feature box; it helps hide things that aren't as important so you can browse them in your downtime and not have them detract from breaking news.
Stylistic Changes: Say Goodbye Breaks, Hello Collapsing Quote Boxes
We're trying to do away with having our users click a lot. We think it gets in the way of content. With the exception of supremely long posts, most things will be condensed and combined so that you can read it all whenever you load our blog rather than having to click another link. We've added a feature that toggles blue quotes so that when you click on the expand, it opens them up right in the same page you're already reading. We've also created a "Read More" tag that will expand the text right in the page, so again, you don't have to go to a new page to view the differences. When we post items datamined from a patch, those will be in the post rather than sequestered away in our database.
Again: we want everything at your fingertips, not several pages away and hidden.
Feedback
Last of all, what we really want is for you to give us your feedback. This thread is a great place to start, but you can also email . We want to know if you find a bug, have thoughts on how to improve the usability of our site, or have any ideas for what can make our newest venture an even bigger success. Get in touch and reach out; we're listening.
