Economic measures could be an effective way to try to do something about the Horde:Alliance ratio. An economic depression for the Horde. It could even be lore friendly. Orgrimmar would require massive imports. Larger races - larger calorie intake. Durotar can't sustain a boar population large enough for all of Orgimmar. I'm not sure I've seen a crop farm in Durotar, but even if there is one it wont be enough to feed the boars. Hunting would be ineffective for a population of that size and would wipe out all wildlife in Durotar, Barrens and Ashenvale pretty fast. Importing food or animal food to Orgrimmar would require quite the transport network that's vulnerable to pirates, other neutral parties and the Alliance. The fishing would be the saving grace, but goblins have a propensity for ecological disasters and their home is just around the corner in Azshara. So the fish is probably toxic and have problem reproducing (it's probably overfished already). So, are the CHAMPIONS OF THE HORDE gonna save the people, buy another pair of fancy pants that matches their bracers or stash their funds overseas, get some surgery and move?
If you are concerned about pay2win in the world 1st race, then you should be more concerned about pay2win in a substantial part of the game itself. The game is literally a pay2win franchise, it's just obscured by the fact that there are a couple of steps in the process and it involves the use of an in-game service provided by players. You can earn gear / achievements / mounts intended for only cutting edge clearers or high level key pushers using gold bought with real money. Which part of the game outside of PVP is actually free of pay2win? Exploration, Darkmoon Faire and fishing achievements etc etc.
Boosting exists in amost every game, not only wow or MMO games.Real money trading exist in every MMO (yeah, incredible ?). We can buy gold with cash since vanilla, wow token just make the thing legal and less dangerous.Thinking that removing token will remove this aspect of the game is desillusional.
It's not that surprising though, I'm in a really casual guild (6/10N atm) and since there's no gold mount I just spent some gearing myself up, in order to boost my ilvl and get some invites to heroic raid... I bought:200 ilvl trinket (30k)213 ring (50k)213 shoes (120k)213 cloak (60k)190 weapon (70k) this one I bought when I hit lvl 60, but I've had it since then235 lego shoulders (140k)so around 500k. Atm I'm sitting at 201 ilvl (with mythic+ gear since the only gear that I've got from the raid is a neck haha), so yeah, basically if you translate that to wow tokens and money, I've could spent around $80... Even more, I could buy a 213 writsts, 207 head and 207 legs for around $60 more (or 350k gold)Extrapolate that to mythic lvl gear, a bunch of players and a bunch of characters, and you get a ton of gold.
Boosting income must be pretty insane for a name guild.Hell, I'm partly to blame.... I usually buy one mount run at the end of every expansion, if there's a mount I REALLY want. Bought Jaina last time, well worth it IMO.If I actually cared about world first I might feel bad, but I don't, so I don't.All that said, my gold comes from playing, and I still have all of my wod/legion table gold. If the token went away I think it'd be good, but it would definitely selfishly benefit me personally.
At what point is this pay2win? Sure BOEs are pay, but that isn't even the beginning. BOE will likely be 18% of the total gold spent, but that estimating high. The server transfer will likely be 8% of total cost give one to two characters will be needed. Meaning the BOE point is roughly 26% of total estimated costs. The real gold expense is in the actual raid prepping. A single flask on moon guard is 4k gold, a single feast is 3k gold, a single potion is 2k gold last I checked. For me to raid heroic prepped for the 5 hours is roughly 20k for flask, food is given form my old raid group, 60k gold for the ten boss and the fight is long enough for three potion also factoring any wipes. Not factoring cost of enchanting my gear estimating to be 8k. So since my main character is not on the same server as my raiding guild means that a raid week costs me 80k gold every week to have my best possible best. This doesn't account for repairs, resources needed outside of raid like base legendary items, or any other mis items. As for equipping base legendary items ideal that doesn't work. I had brought a neck i was planning to use for an off spec. For gearing purposes I equipped it to check my ilevel, but after farther research I realized the power I was looking at was misrepresented. I'm not min-maxing but if I'm going to invest in a legendary I want the high level one to be my better one. So I sold the neck on the AH to recover a portion of the expense. When I got a new neck that was 187 lfr neck I was unable to trade because my mythic dungeon neck of 184 was my highest ilevel neck despite the base legendary item. So my point is I raid for 5 hours a week costing me 80k. How much do you think It costs them to raid 24/7 till the raid is finished? The consumables alone will be 55% of the total gold costs.
Wonder if they RMT'd this one too.
Whenever I see something like this, I'm always reminded about Charles Barkley's (A former NBA great for people who don't follow sports) thoughts on his gambling habit:“It’s a stupid, bad habit. I have a problem,” Barkley said. “But the problem is when you can’t afford it."As long as Limit feel they can repay it, it's a good investment, not a problem.
