Instead of trying to recreate the past, why not just embrace the present and appreciate an old game with updated features.
Because updated =/= good.

Unfortunately I don't have any faith at all in the current dev team and I feel this is going to be one big mess
The team working on Classic is different from the team working on Retail/Live WoW.

Instead of trying to recreate the past, why not just embrace the present and appreciate an old game with updated features. There's so many little, annoying things about vanilla, and I love vanilla. Dismounting when entering water, and having to hold shift to auto loot to name a couple. Some changes are necessary.
One thing we do know is everything won't be 100% recreated. Some bugs (read inconsitencies) between Vanilla and Live WoW won't be fixed, due to them downporting the current client and those things not "adding" anything to the experience. For example, at one point they mentioned they won't be "fixing" mail to work 100% identially (quoted below), since it doesn't add anything. This likely means we can mail multiple items at once, and may be able to just Right-click them to mail them, instead of dragging.
I suspect you will still see dismounting in water, but I suspect we will have automatic auto loot.
It’s important to point out that there are some bugs we’re going to fix before launch, and there are some bugs that we don’t intend to address. As we mentioned in our BlizzCon presentation, some differences aren’t worth fixing, like differences in how the mail works.
