The way that guy virtually brags about not giving a @#$% about WoW lore and any of its aesthetic elements.... It's tragic. This is why the game has lost its RPG element. Because the strongest players are the ones who don't give a *!@# about RPG and only play for the competitive element. Why not just play chess then or some other oldschool game then? It would have a better established ruleset and deeper gameplay than WoW anyway.

While numbers will always play a role in this game, it's getting more and more deviant from the core of this game, which is the lore. Blizz had done a lot to encourage raiding and pvp, I wish they do more for the RP aspect.

Blizz live by the "gameplay first" mantra as one of their core values. The game designers create the game and then the story team come in after and try and make a story to fit around what the designers want. It's not a story/lore driven game (or company). Playing this game for the lore would be an exercise in frustration. \r\rOne could easily argue back to your argument that if you want to play a game based on a strong core story, you should play something set in a universe where the story is the primary driver of the game.

If all casuals who play for lore would quit, you wouldn't even have a game to play for endgame.
If all casuals who play for lore would quit, you wouldn't even have a game to play for endgame.\r\rstop acting you speak for everyone because you do not.
I will say these Mythic mode in raids only add to problems with the "Special Snowflake mentally" it goes to there egos i seen that happen way to much now and just posting about world first race not helping things for casuals.
stop acting you speak for everyone because you do not.\r\rWhere's the lie? Gotta pay dev rent, subs from world first raiders definitely wouldn't cover it.
I go in the comment section expecting people to cheer for their favorite guild or talk about the world first race. Instead all I see is people trash talking about the lore. FeelsBadMan.
Yep Blizzard. I choose your game because this game has a deep lore. There are much more better games with more coolest graphics than this old engine game. But I prefer your game because of the story.Don't you dare to lose this spark or the game will die.

If WoW was fundamentally about lore, then the WoW movie would have kicked butt. Instead it did something unspeakable to our butts.Teleporting, infinitely resurrecting, alien space demons with star wars ships invading our medeival fantasy game didn't ruin the lore for you? I mean, WHAT DOES IT TAKE?I'm firmly in the camp of saying gameplay is what the game is about. Character progression, challenges to overcome, obstacles to team up to beat - that is the core of WoW. You can window dress it all you like, but I didn't go find teams to play with to progress a story... I can just go watch or read much better stories. I want to play a game in WoW, pure and simple. And try to be real about it - people who raid have *already seen* the lore via a video as they prepared to play... So they know the lore before they even *start* to play. The average person would not read about the story of The Sixth Sense, then go watch the last 20 minutes of it 200 times in a row, enjoying every minutes of it. The game is not about lore.
I'm just here for the comments but am a bit disappointed they aren't quite as toxic as hoped. Would anyone like some popcorn?
If WoW was fundamentally about lore, then the WoW movie would have kicked butt. Instead it did something unspeakable to our butts.\r\rBecause the movie only used elements from the Warcraft lore, not the lore itself hence why its was weird.\r\r\r\r\rTeleporting, infinitely resurrecting\r\rDats gameplay not Lore.\r\ralien space demons with star wars ships invading our medeival fantasy game didn't ruin the lore for you? I mean, WHAT DOES IT TAKE?\r\rSpace demon always were a thing for a long time..... and Warcraft is not a medieval fantasy, its a "HIGH fantasy medieval setting" there is a lot of difference.\r\r\r\r\r\rI'm firmly in the camp of saying gameplay is what the game is about. You know thats because of the LORE that WoW got so many people interrested? And now its one of the main reasons (they are !@#$ing on lore and making the game too stiff its dont fell like a game anymore, the comment from Edelweiss323 says everything) why people a leaving?

If the casual players quit the game would die. Blizz has said as much over the years. This is why they don’t push world first races and make raids around story and not around what the “professional” couch potatoes want.
I really dont wanna see limit get the world first or else we will never hear the end of donald trumps twitter feeds
How about, people can like different things about the game and play for different reasons?

Because it's very clear that WoW development started during Warcraft III development and they were already working on game play before Warcraft III launched. So I don't think it's fair to say WoW, in its entirety, was born from Warcraft III lore. WoW game play was born from people that played Everquest and every other MMO on the market, then the lore was used to shape the details.

Nothing groundbreaking. Still only existed for the sake of the game.\r\rAnd yeah - absolutely. All races should be able to be all classes. Cinematics - I skip them and personally don't care, but I don't think they should be scrapped. Plenty of people - even people that don't really care about lore - like them, so they're worth it. Quest text - you're right, I don't read it and I'd be happy if they found a way to deliver quests in another more engaging and modern way. As for the names... that's kind of an extreme strawman.\r\rThe way Blizz do it now is fine. The story is just flavour and backdrop. I'm okay with it being on that level.
