Derek Proudmoore Hall of Ritual 8.1 Cutscene (Spoilers)
07/11/2018 em 08:47
Derek Proudmoore's story from the
8.0 Horde War Campaign
continues in Patch 8.1. In this post, we have a cutscene from later on in the plot development. Story spoilers.
In Patch 8.1, after the loss of the Battle of Dazar'alor, Sylvanas resurrects war hero Derek Proudmoore, vowing to use him to assassinate members of his family:
Baine: What reason could you possibly have for this madness?!
Sylvanas: Derek Proudmoore was a hero to the Kul Tirans.
Sylvanas: And once his mind has been properly conditioned, we will allow the Proudmoores to recover their long-lost prince...
Baine: This is too far!
Sylvanas: They are sure to stage a rescue attempt when they learn of his fate.
Sylvanas: ... so he can slaughter them in their sleep.
Baine: How many times must we forsake our honor?
Sylvanas: There can be only victory or death for us, Baine.
Sylvanas: And death is mine to master.
In this cutscene, a follow up to the resurrection of Derek Proudmoore, Derek is now imprisoned in the Hall of Ritual, begging for help. He is held in place by shadowy bonds, which could also indicate additional magic at play to mind control him, but that is unclear. What is clear through the voiceover audio is that he's intensely unhappy and scared.
It's also disconcerting seeing the Hall of Ritual, originally an altar to the Loa in Dazar'alor, repurposed as a shadowy prison.
Derek: Please... help me. I... I don't know what's happened. What's been done to me.
Derek: I remember the battle. Orcish dragon riders. Our decks consumed by flame. I felt a blaze of agony, and then... darkness.
Derek: I was... dead, wasn't I? For how long? I am not quite alive, and yet... I don't understand this. Please... PLEASE... how is this possible?
Derek: Where is my father? My mother? Jaina... Tandred... please... I'm so alone. Don't leave me alone...
Baine: This is wrong. There is no honor in it.
Baine: Her deeds disgrace us all. We must set things right... before the Horde loses everything that made us strong.
You can read more reactions of the Horde leaders to the raising of Derek Proudmoore
in this post
. This cutscene likely precedes the
in Patch 8.1, in which the Horde leaders try to figure out why Vol'jin recommended Sylvanas as Warchief.

Well, she isnt wrong. The Horde and its mantra at times is pretty Hypocritical. "Victory of Death". "Blood and Thunder". And its not something that is only heard by the Horde of the OLD:.. But the horde right now. Its hypocritical of someone like Saurfang to criticise someone like Sylvanas.. When she does things the way she should. As a leader. As a general. The way she can cause the most damage to the enemy.
Its fun to pretend she is good at what she is doing. It should be pretty obvious that she is both a horrible leader and a horrible general. You dont win wars by creating division within your own ranks. Any halfway decent leader knows what bounds not to cross because hardly anyone gives a leader undying devotion without some expectation of a personal benefit in return.
Sylvanas is clearly a horrible tactician and a terrible leader if she cant even figure out how to gain and keep the generals and troops she has inherited by no merit of her own, other than the fact that she probably made a pact with some death demon to fool Vol'jin into handing her the throne.
Her excuse for starting the war is pathetically paranoid too. Worrying what your current non enemies might do in 100 years, especially when these factions have been demonstrated to be volatile just about every 5 years? If she had half a brain in her rotting head she would be more concerned with trying to understand what her allies will do in the next 5 years.
Now a good leader who is worried about what her current non enemies might do in 100 years might recognize that those same non enemies have had several divisions in the last 30 years. Stormgarde, Gilneas, Quel'Thalas, Kul Tiras....the alliance bleeds allies like a hemophiliac. If she were any kind of strategist at all she would have taken that route rather than destroying her own armies in an effort to destroy armies that are not even fighting you....unless of course her only goal is too kill everyone including her allies whom she plans to betray so she can make them all her slaves rather than her followers.
Saurfang and Baine may be talking about honor but the reality is they are tired of Sylvanas because she is hot garbage at best and at worst a ruthless dictator who intends to enslave to world.
So basically nobody here read "A good war"?
Lemme spoil a bit for y'all. This entire thing is Saurfang's fault. Because he's old and full of regret, after all the wars he's fought. Sylvanas explained why a peace treaty with the Alliance is bad - It will last 1, 5, 50 years and then the Alliance will obliterate the horde. Orgrimmar is an absolute #$%^ city that cannot be defended, even with a huge fanatical army - SoO proved that. Stormwind on the other hand is the exact opposite.
Good war did nothing to to help Sylvanas. Her fears of the alliance in 50 years shows only her paranoia. Her fears, if that is what they were, are paranoid of the wrong people and completely short sighted of the limits of her own influence.
simple minded but cute. When sylvans finally figures out she never had the character or intelligence to control the horde or win a war, it will be her own fault for not understanding that her armies are not arrows in a quiver. The forsaken may be nearly mindless simpletons following her because they have no other options but the rest of the horde is than happy to butcher a bad leader when the situation warrants it.
What Good War didnt tell us is if she has been lying all along. The 3 sisters comic hinted that perhaps she doesnt like the horde at all. When they played their little game of 2 truths and a lie, it is perfectly reasonable to believe all 3 of her statements were a lie. Perhaps here weak and paranoid excuses for starting the war were merely a way to get Saurfang to go along with the silly endeavor. maybe what she really wants is a divided horde because in all likelihood, all she really wants is more mindless forsaken with no other option than to follow her. This is about the only possible outcome that makes her look like an intelligent strategist and leader because everything she is doing now only shows her to be a fool who cant see the forest for the trees.
This is not a cutscene.
