Personally, I am happy with this.
Another thing worth pointing out is that the main thing in common with all four of these subraces is that they all stem from NPC factions that presumably look upon both the alliance and the horde favorably purely based on their actions in legion. They might all be neutral options that individually pick a side similar to Pandaren. The conversation between Sigryn and Liadrin may be simply "this is why these elune worshipping elves from the ancient nightelven capital would have the horde as an option," beyond "horde players did the suramar campaign too."If this is the case, look to see things motivating (presumably) Turalyon's lightforged to work with the horde, because Turalyon is a human alliance hero, and that needs to be accounted for. Again, any introduction of people coming from the army of the light or Alleria's potential shadow faction will need to take into account that the horde, the one time enemies of both Turalyon and Allieria, are cool with these two previously "alliance based" people. That's a major plot hole that needs to be shored up, because Alleria and Turalyon are too PVE-important to stay together AND have a faction bias.
Of all the class/race combinations, void elf paladins would be the least possible.Light and void are natural opposites in the Warcraft universe.
If it's not sub races, I think this would be a good way for them to introduce alliance races into the horde and vice-versa. Void elves would be blood/high elves that followed Alleria into the alliance, nightborne are obviously the night elves of suramar that follow Silgryn into Liadrin's fold. Lightforged Draenei could be the lightforged that are none too happy with Alleria and Illidan who they may see as part of the alliance, and see the horde as the best chance to defeat the void. Highmountain could be persuaded to join the alliance if Wrathion influences Ebonhorn due to his (b)romance with Anduin.
void elfs? shadow priests of the horde and alliance unite and melt the face of whoever wants to implement this - this can not be a thing.
Man, alliance High Elves with a racial similar to the Worgen that lets them go void form would be awesome. I've got a couple hundred burning a hole in my pocket for all those race changes.
dragonoid new race bound to the aspects: red & bronze = horde, blue & green = alliance
Horde better not get Nightborne, they are obviously night elves. Horde can have high elves. What would really be awesome though, would be a whole new race and sub-races. Void-elf is a cool look, it should not be relegated to a single faction. Also, as others have said, we should have other sub races like dark irons, wild hammer, vrykul could be a human sub race, broken draenai, brown and gray orcs, other troll types, undead should have other races too, why are undead only humans, Sylvanas is not human, I guess though having other alliance races as undead (though logical) would be kind of unfair because you'd just have an alliance race on the horde side. The Lightforged Draenei difference are so subtle I wouldn't even call it a sub race, just add in the yellow eyes and the other accents to customization options. Yes, this is all speculative and very poorly informed, so excited for blizzcon, maybe we'll get a new expansion announcement with details into this. I'd also like to see more race class combos, night elf pally, human shaman, panda druid, gnome football. I'd also be happy with an overhaul of char customization, something along the lines of Sims, sliders for everything, height, weight, boobs, muscle tone, eye size, color wheel for hair and eyes, more hairstyles, tattoos for all races, sure there could be more, I'd almost rather have that than new race/sub races. Warlords we got new char models instead of a new race or class, and they want to keep WoW going for as long as its popular, they're going to run out of races and classes 1 day, overhauled customization may feel like not enough for some, like new models did in WoD, but just remember, they can always introduce it next time.
I still really hope for playable nagas because it's a dream since Warcraft 3, but I'm starting to think that it won't happen anytime soon... :(The lore and the timing would perfectly fit to the presumed next expansion's theme, and there's a lot of people asking for them, but sub-races also are demanded by quite a few players. And it would make sense, I guess... Nightborne would be really nice since we spent a lot of time with them in Legion and it would be a shame to just get over it and forget about them. They played a major role in this expansion ! However... Other sub-races... well, Lightforged draenei are basically just draenei with golden eyes and slightly different horns and hairs. Their story is not very rich since they are just draenei who found their way to the Army of the Light. It would be nice to have more horns and stuff for draenei, but adding them as a sub-race would be a very poor choice. Highmountain taurens, on the other hand, have a bit more lore behind them, but nothing compared to Nightborne, and they are just taurens with different horns and paintings. That's it. Let us actually play a tauren with those horns but don't make it a sub-race ! And finally, void elves... I don't even know what I could say since we only know about Alleria.Another problem with this theory is the Void / Light theme. We already know that it will be a major theme in the future (probably the next expansion or the one after). I'm not sure that putting Lightforged draenei and Void elves in the same faction is a good idea. No faction bride here, but I don't think that Blizzard will put everything about the Light and Void stuff only in the Alliance while Horde has Highmountain taurens, if you see what I mean. Finally, there are not enough sub-races here. What about Dark Iron dwarves, Zandalari trolls, etc. ? I don't like them, but it would be strange to add only those sub-races given the fact that most of them don't make a lot of sense. I'd prefer a whole new race (naga or even ethereal) but I'm of with sub-races if they make sense. New horns or skin colors are not enough IMO.
I hope the 'subrace' idea gets expanded. I don't at all mind not getting a brand new one, if it means we'll get some more variety with the races we do have. I just hope they don't limit it to just those four. All the main races, especially the older ones are in serious need of some upgrades.
This is exciting! My primary concern: Don't the Nightborne share Night Elf animations, just like 3 other races in this game? Also, I would be disappointed if there wasn't a choice for every race. At the very least, much more customization if not a sub-race.
Also naga are just not going to happen. No legs. Means you can't wear pants, or shoes, they'd be seriously limited in certain classes that have kicks' nor can they ride mounts. The sheer amount of work the devs and artists would have to do to make it work would be insane. From a cost stand point, I just don't think they'd spend the money to do it.
Very cool. Exciting times indeed. Though I do want more choices. And of course sliders and colorwheels.
If subraces end up a selling point of the next expansion, wanna bet instead of a character boost we get 1-3 "free" race changes to let us change to the new subraces? I could see Blizzard adding in a store option to change subrace, too.If this is true, there's also a chance more subraces could be added or already have been before the expansion even releases. Vrykul are likely to be added at some point. Chances are more customization options would be added overall as well.If it is true, here's hoping that more customization and subraces aren't one of the biggest features of the expansion, though. Playing dress up can be fun and all, but it doesn't make the game. In the end, it adds little when armor covers it up.
PERC! You know full well the light is supposed to embrace Alleria! The Light is both sides of the same coin!
