You can have one authenticator between multiple accounts.
We just got our authenticators. The info specifically stated more than one battle.net account could be bound to one authenticator device.Anyhow, I think it's just common sense to get one. They're not expensive, and they're easy to use.
I tried the mobile authenticator on my Ipod touch. While, I liked the feeling of the added security, I frequently left my Ipod at the office, not thinking about not being able to log into WoW that night I tucked it in my locked drawer as I normally do. Several days I went wowless and one night I even drove all the way back to the office (24 miles round trip) to get it. It was too much of a hassle for me in the end. While the design and idea is great, it's horrible in practice for forgetful people such as myself.
I've had mine since the second wave hit the Blizzard Store. The only reason that I missed the first wave because they sold out so fast, otherwise I would have had one immediately. If you don't have one, you should get one regardless whether or not they make it mandatory. I mean, I can see why they would. Their queue for restoring hacked accounts is several weeks long already, and this would go a long way towards shortening that list immensely. If you are deluded into the "It won't happen to me because I have X anti-virus, Y firewalls and take Z precautions every day!" you are wrong. It can and does happen to everyone no matter how careful or safe they think they are. Besides, Authenticators are stupidly cheap and can save you a lot of potential headaches and heartaches if something should go awry. I for one welcome this if it should come... and would recommend someone get one anyhow.
Well, I use the Mobile Authenticator App for the iPhone, so I have no problem with this. I've been using it ever since I got hacked. I think this is a good idea. Why the hell are you guys complaining... No more hacking = GOOD.
My problem is not in the price or the minor inconvenience of using it, but the simple fact that I can't buy it.Every time I try to order one I get "We currently cannot ship to this address.".I am unable to purchase this, and if it would be made mandatory I would be forced to quit the game.I've become used to the stuff that I don't have access to (RaF, scroll of resurrection, arena tournament, etc.), but making this thing a requirement to play and preventing me from acquiring it would be... unwise. My hope is that they wait with this restriction till the next expansion, raise the price of the box by 7 euro, and include the damn thing in it; otherwise... c'est la vie.EDIT: To the people that wouldn't like it packed with the next expansion because they already got one: is an extra trinket included in the damn package so incredibly annoying to you that you'd deny those that don't have it the possibility of acquiring it with little to no hassle? And before anyone asks me why I didn't get a mobile authenticator, I don't have an Iphone, my phone is not on the list of supported devices, and I'd rather get the 7 euro one then spend money on a new phone that I don't want.
I have a way to potentially make this really easy. I believe that regardless of the form of payment used, players are required to put in a physical billing address. What Blizz should do is send a free authenticator to every billing address that they have on file with instructions on how to use the device. That way, everybody gets the authenticator that Blizz may start requiring.
We don't need authenticators. We need people to stop doing stupid things.
We don't need security, just drag your internet cable out exactly when you type your password.
