this very interesting image ...
It was also
discussed
over on Reddit..
A fascinating presentation on the World of Warcraft Economy and the security surrounding it, presented by Shawn Routhier a Senior Security Engineer at Blizzard Entertainment at Splunk Conference.

Since I don't play Classic, can someone explain to me why Trade is such a larger chunk pf the gold transactions than in retail?
A vast majority of gold transactions in WoW classic occur probably through this order. In classic you simply rely on other players for things more often.
Enchants
XP Boosting
Gambling
Ports
Summons
Water
Lockboxes
DMT buffs
GDKP
I just watched the whole talk, I'm not going to pretend I understood the whole thing, but it was really interesting, and the speaker has a lot of background playing wow and is clearly really enthusiastic and informed.
If you want to skip a lot of the security and data stuff, I really recommend skipping to about 24 Mins in, he has a really interesting segment about prices of items when they are required for progression, peak selling times, and a super interesting visualisation of how to catch gold sellers through large purchases.
It certainly makes for a great headline and goes to show how integral the economy is to both Classic and Retail.
Make Crafting Profitable - Part 4
u/Sygon_Paul is continuing the wonderful in-depth TSM series
explaining how things work for crafting professions and how to get the most out of them. There are a couple of snippets from the main article I wanted to share here ..
Minimum and maximum restock fields
On the surface, these fields are obvious, but they can contain some power, especially for retail WoW. Minimum means "make at least this many" while maximum means "do not make more than this many". The stumbling block for many people is that your current inventory is checked in order to obey these fields. Your inventory is your bank, reagent bank, mailbox, alts, and auction house.
Let's say you want to keep 20 potions of agility for yourself, while also making 40 to sell. The maximum, therefore, would be 60. If you left the minimum at 1, TSM would restock whatever your inventory is until you got to 60 total.
Another hurdle is people often come to support after setting the minimum to 0, effectively telling TSM to make nothing. It doesn't matter what your maximum is set or your current inventory, you are telling TSM to make 0.
Another example: set minimum to 20 and maximum to 60. TSM will queue if you have 40 or fewer items. If you have 55, TSM adds 55 + 20 = 75, but the max is 60, so nothing happens. If the min in this example was 2, TSM would make 5 and stop, or 5 > 2.
What if you want to restock but only if you are totally out of stock? Set the minimum and maximum to the same quantity. You won't queue more until your current stock is 0.
Retail WoW, Alchemy, and thanks for the pain, Blizzard
Bring up your spell book (default "p" for US clients), click the Professions tab, and look at Alchemy if you have it on that character. If you have completed the "master" quest, you will also see one of these:
Potion Master. Any potion you make from vanilla through and including Mists of Pandaria will proc 20% more, meaning if you craft 100 healing potions, you will end up with 120.
Transmute Master. All transmutations will grant you 20% more of the item.
Elixir/Flask. All elixirs and flasks will have this benefit.
Warlords of Draenor does not have this mechanic; Legion and Battle for Azeroth use the rank system instead, and BfA complicates things by also having the Tool of the Trade, or Silas. Legion and BfA rank 3 procs are about 40% more, or 45% if you craft in the thousands per item at once. Silas' Prosperity is 70% or 75% in the thousands.
TSM does not account for these procs, and requires Crafting Operations. That means anyone with Alchemy most likely will need at least four (4) Crafting operations, possibly more.
Alchemy crafts for which you have no rank 3 recipes or mastery
mastery recipes
rank 3 Legion and BfA
BfA recipes for when you gain the Silas' Prosperity buff from Tool of the Trade
Yikes.
Here is a link
that will help. The short answer works like this. Create a Crafting Operation as you would, and assign it to the Alchemy group that is appropriate. I'm going with Potion Master in this example.
Change your Default Material Cost Method
in your operation, not the main settings
to the following because you need 20% more materials to get to a 1:1 cost vs results ratio:
1.2 * max(first(smartavgbuy, avgbuy), min(dbmarket, crafting, vendorbuy, convert(dbmarket)))
The minimum profit field will also need to be changed. Remember, any time you see crafting you need to divide, not multiply:
Retail WoW:
ifgte(dbregionsalerate, 0.1, 10% crafting / 1.2, 20% crafting / 1.2)
Classic WoW has no procs.
ifgte(max(salerate, 0.005), 0.1, 10% crafting, 20% crafting)
Or, if you use the custom price source
mincraftprofit
from part 3 (works for both game versions, if you play Classic do not divide by anything):
mincraftprofit / 1.2
When you get to auctioning,
do not forget
that you need to make this same adjustment!
Thankyou once again for sharing these Sygon_Paul, they are really useful in digging deeper into the how and why of using TSM for crafting. I look forward to seeing the Auctioning posts!
What's Next for Legendaries in Patch 9.1?
Manthieus
has a great video this week discussing what might happen with Legendary base item crafting ..
This opens up an interesting discussion over how people are finding the current legendary system and those who are making gold. It currently requires quite a significant investment of gold to get to the higher ranks. Some have been making a huge amount of gold, some losing a huge amount. How will this look for the casual player and gold maker? Personally, I've avoided it until now, I've been very happy with my gold making without it so far.
Speed Warriors
u/ElGoblinoGuides
has come up with a rather fun guide for increasing the speed of your warrior to help with farming particularly weapon transmog as Warriors can use anything.
warrior go brrr.
why? farming old dungeons for mounts and transmog, mostly.
why else? farming for gold.
why else else?
super sonic racing.
preferable to farming with druid? probably not.
cooler than farming with druid? absolutely.
i made video.
https://youtu.be/FR2Cl8JdXiU
i'm very pretty and smart and charismatic pls watch.
Gear
Waist
Leaper legendary
. Most important part of the gear.
Head & Shoulders... & neck & chest...
Azerite Armor with Longstrider trait. The higher the item level the better. Second most important part of the gear.
There's a
5% movement speed neck essence
. It's probably gonna be a bunch of work for you to get. Probably leave this for last. IDK.
Cloak
Shadowlands item with speed. Enchant it with the +30 speed enchant from Shadowlands.
Wrist, Gloves, Legs, Rings
Shadowlands items with speed. Always preferable with a socket as well, of course.
Boots
Item level 50 or lower. Enchant with
"minor speed"
for 10% movement speed flat. Preferably with speed and a socket.
Trinkets
Shadowlands trinket? Maybe? Speed and a socket preferably.
Young Drake's Impulse.
I still have to look more into trinkets.
Weapons
Runeblade of Baron Rivendare.
10% movement speed flat.
For the second weapon, I'm using an unobtainable heirloom from Siege of Orgrimmar. 2 sockets, low item level.
Enchanted with Windwalk
, for some extra movement speed procs.
I use the 2 different BfA movement speed gems on this weapon.
Straddling Sage Agate
&
Straddling Viridium
. 8% flat movement speed total.
Something else on gems...
Whenever you get Shadowlands gear with sockets, you want to use:
Straddling Jewel Doublet
x1
And any other kind of Shadowlands gem.
Food
Fried Bonefish
makes you go BRRer
Race
Zandalari Troll
master race. 5% movement speed with Gonk.
Dark Iron Dwarf
submaster race. 4% indoors only. Looks very cool. Looking cool is important.
Teen wolves
do something or the other. Goes fast but not cool. Don't play.
Night elves.
2% movement speed. I think it doubles when you're stealthed. Very curvy women. Very nice.
Covenant
Night Fae
is probably best. Soulshape good. Very fast.
Great to use in between Heroic Leap and Charge charges.
Talents
Be
very angry spec.
Very angry spec
= two two handed weapons. More bigger weapons more good.
War machine
only triggers when you're killing things that award you experience or honor. Doesn't matter for old content.
Double time
is great.
Bounding stride
is necessary.
Nothing else matters. *queue metallica*
Other consumables
I bought a bunch of these for fun:
Gunshoes
- can't be used inside, unfortunately.
Potion of the Psychopomp's Speed
End title goes here, to separate things and make it easier to read
Right now, my warrior has a 150% movement speed passively, without any buffs or procs or whatever.
I'm not Zandalari, don't have the neck essence, apparently not enough IQ to remember to reenable all of my Longstrider traits.
Read: it's pretty good
and worth it if you're gonna be farming dungeons for transmog or whatever else.
The longer the expansion goes, the faster we'll go, as we get higher item level speed stat gear.

Thankyou ElGoblino for such a fun guide, Warriors leaping around certainly sounds like a great play style.
