Curious. There seems to be two of these now, both with the same name. This one is item #90953 and the original is #49343. Wonder if this is a special version for pet battles that they may swap out with the older version.

Otherwise, I can't really see any difference.

Just saw this item (VERY briefly before selling out) on BMAH on Beta. The alternate item ID for the item was a dead give away this was going to happen.

No more eBay for rare pets now! :D

I can also confirm that this is used on the BMAH. I was at a friends' house who was fortunate enough to have the BETA, where he would stick around near the BMAH when logging out; this item was on there. Hope this helps.

This may be the reward from Shanghai 2012 Battle.net World Championship, you will get a gift card if you go there, they may add a FoS for it.

Mumper (Cory Stockton) confirmed on Twitter :

The Spectral Cub is the promo pet for BWC in China. The source will be updated in 5.2.0.

This pet is the promotional event pet given away in Shanghai China for the Battle.net World Championship in 2012. As of 5.2 the source will no longer say 'Blizzard Pet Store' but instead reflect it was a promotional pet for China.

I'm seeing posts with this information being purged which is just a little silly since the actual lead content designer on World of Warcraft twittered on his personal account saying this is what the pet is. If you don't believe a source like that.... *cough*

Never fear more and more TCG items are creeping up on BMAH (Sinaleiro do Comerciante de Almas & Pipa de Dragão were two recent TCG pets on my BMAH) so if you truly had your heart set on this little fellow and you don't want to spend real money on the loot card you can wait for it's sister model, the Tigrinho Espectral, to show it self on BMAH. Just saying there is an alternative.

This pet is also needed for the achievement Crazy for Cats. I find this rather irritating since it is a pet that is needed for an achievement most of us will never be able to obtain.

Some small fun facts:

- This pet is only redeemable in China region.
- You can not put this pet in cage unlike the normal Tigrinho Espectral, it's non-tradable. You can not sell it in AH or trade it to someone else after you redeem it. So the unscratched card of it is more expensive in China than the card for Tigrinho Espectral.
- So in total you can have 4 “Spectral Tiger Cubs” in your collection for Chinese players.

Honestly, this is absurd that a promo pet counts towards the achievement Crazy for Cats.

How can a pet only obtainable in China be included in an achievement? It’s beyond ridiculous.

I almost bought two cubs that were TCG, when I saw this about only being in China. I was pissed... and still kind of am. However, I decided to buy two last pets at the AH that I didn't feel like grinding for, and I got the achievement. What I hadn't seen is that this is an achievement that does not require all the pets. You just have to get 20, so this is obtainable without this pet or the TCG pets, one of which was going for 750,000g.
