4.0.6 PTR Patch Notes Updated - New Meta Gems!
Malgayne pointed it out
earlier
, but I wanted to draw more attention to the fact that, last night, Blizzard updated their
Patch 4.0.6 PTR Patch Notes
!
Notable changes include:
All guild banners now reward bonus reputation in addition to honor and experience.
Archaeology fragments now have a hard cap of 200 per race. Players will not be able to collect additional fragments until they complete artifacts to take them down below 200 fragments. Players with more than 200 fragments will not lose additional fragments in 4.0.6, but in a future patch we may remove any fragments above 200.
Meta gems with the Chaotic and Relentless prefixes now have a requirement of 3 red gems.
New meta gems have been added: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.

Cataclysm Soundtrack: Reviewed
I don't bring this up all the time because I know it's not something that everyone shares with me, but I
love
video game music.
This started long before video game music was actually good enough to be worth of love. I'm the guy who settles in for long car trips by listening to music from the original
Sonic the Hedgehog soundtrack
. I love the soundtracks to the NES
DuckTales
game,
Toejam & Earl
, and
Mega Man
. I'm a big fan of the
Descendants of Erdrick
.
So with that in mind, about two years ago I wrote a blog about the soundtrack to Wrath of the Lich King. If you're interested in reading it, you can find it here:
http://www.wowhead.com/blog=53114/music-makes-the-people-come-together
With this in mind, I'd like to talk a little bit about the
Cataclysm Soundtrack.
If you're interested, you can join me after the break.

Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (January 6)
That will teach us to say the hotfixes are slow in coming. Blizzard has hit us with another round of hotfixes today!
Most of the changes are pretty minor encounter re-tunings and bug fixes, but a few are worth reading:
Entering Tol Barad via the bridge during an active battle by joining the queue will port the player to the correct starting place of the battle, but players who do not join the queue will be ported back to the camp.
Shapeshifted characters should no longer be unable to jump on the rope during the Vanessa VanCleef encounter. They will now be pulled out of a shapeshift form automatically. In addition, players should no longer lose pets when jumping on the rope (they will respawn when the player lands after swinging). Please note that until a client-side patch can be applied, an inappropriate aura will be displayed when pet classes or shapeshifted characters use the rope. The tooltip of this aura will read "Delicious Aura (UNUSED REUSE) / Instant / Delicious food increases haste by 10%" and can be disregarded, as it does not provide a haste buff. It's an aura of free word association... Enjoy!

Latest Cataclysm hotfixes have been posted! Lots of awesome changes this time, including the recently mentioned changes to
guild flasks and cauldrons

(guild achievement) is now awarded at 1,000 flasks, down from 10,000, and
Mutus Liber

here
.
Several Cataclysm raid bosses are now properly immune to pet provoke abilities.

Guild Flask and Cauldron Hotfixes
Blizzard just announced some hotfixes to flask-related achievements! Specifically:
Junto e misturado
now requires your guild to craft 1,000 Cataclysm flasks (down from 10,000).
Mutus Liber
now requires your guild to craft 3,000 Cataclysm flasks (down from 25,000).
Looks like guilds weren't crafting flasks as fast as Blizzard had originally anticipated. This should make unlocking the
Receita: Caldeirão de Batalha
and
Receita: Grande Caldeirão de Batalha
significantly easier!

Legendary - The WoW Video Podcast - LOLbarad
No, seriously.. lawl@this entire fiasco over the holidays with Tol Barad. On top of that we've also been slipped a small tidbit of exclusive TITAN information that may require aluminium foil headwear, and then there's this "issue" with heroics being too hard?? Good lawd.
Two big things in the episode..
1. What kind of changes would
you
recommend for Tol Barad?
C. Are heroics really
that
hard?!?

The Weekly Marmot - 10 vs 25: In Review
This week, I put a little retrospective on exactly how the 10man vs 25man split is working out. Now that the general populace has actually some hands-on time with the new system, how does everything stack up? Is 10man raiding actually viable, or are 25mans still the only "real" option?

- Flame Orb and Frostfire Orb no longer break any version of Polymorph.
Flame Destruction cast during the Cho'gall encounter now does approximately 30% more damage per stack on Heroic difficulty.
Atramedes' Sonic Breath now properly ignores line of sight.
Al'Akir's Static Shock has been changed from a damage-over-time spell with interrupts on ticks (10-second cooldown), to a direct-damage interrupt spell (5-second cooldown).

Cataclysm Daily Quests: Therazane
The Cataclysm expansion added thousands of new quests, and among these were quite a few new daily quests with which players can raise various reputations and earn some gold. I'll admit, I'm not particularly impressed with the monetary gain from these quests, as most quests award around or so, but I can tell that these quests were added as an alternate means of raising reputations without having to grind dungeons with the appropriate tabard on. That being said, I thought I'd take a look at the daily quests added for various factions with this expansion, starting with the big momma herself,
Therazane
!
The
Therazane
faction (and its dailies) will not become available until a significant amount of questing in
Geodomo
has been completed. You will first start earning Therazane reputation from quests upon completion of
Conversa de pedras
. By the time you complete all of the necessary quests in Deepholm to unlock the dailies, you will be Honored with
Therazane
. From there, you can do daily quests for a total of
1850 reputation
per day and you can use the
Tabardo de Therazane
to gain

Tol Barad Honor Reward Hotfixed Yet Again
Recently, Blizzard
hotfixed
the honor rewards for the
Tol Barad
battleground to grant attacking players a whopping 1800 Honor Points for a victory. This was intended to promote actually bothering to attack, as it appears that the battleground is so stacked on defense it was not worth the trouble. However, this led to an unintended and undesired result - players were instead win-trading and purposefully throwing battles on defense so that they would have a chance to switch places and reap that sweet 1800 Honor reward for attacking. As this was not Blizzard's intention at all, the Honor reward has been adjusted yet again for attacking players, now awarding a mere 360 Honor points (twice what is earned for a successful defense).
As you’re probably aware by now, an update was applied to Tol Barad shortly before the holidays which granted the attacking side 1800 Honor Points for a victory. While the goal with that change was to provide more incentive for the attack

News Roundup: Rated Battlegrounds Honor Change, Traveling Azeroth
Just two little brief tidbits of news today!
Blizzard changes Rated Battlegrounds to award full Honor to players already at the Conquest Points cap, and have also posted a helpful and informative guide on getting around in the World of Warcraft!
We've recently made a change in an effort to promote continued play in Rated Battlegrounds. Now when a player is at their weekly Conquest cap they will receive the full amount of Honor from kills, objective completions, victories and losses while in a Rated Battleground match. Those not at their cap will continue to earn Conquest normally, and will only earn Honor once they reach their weekly cap.
Whether you’re capped and others on your team aren’t, or you’re all capped and just want to keep playing, we hope this change will allow more flexibility for those participating in Rated Battlegrounds.
Check out their informative post on travel methods in Azeroth and beyond after the break!

BFF Report - Top 5 Most Controversial Games of 2010
While you guys were out having a good time with the Loot King, I was running all over the MMO-verse keeping up with the latest it had to offer. By proxy, I was also absorbing all the crazy crap that some of these developers do and figured it would be fitting to package it all up nicely into one big fat.. er.. fony report.
Any shockers?
p.s. A message from Darnell
regarding Tol Barad

Archaeology Impressions
How's the Cataclysm been treating you guys so far? The expansion added a ton of new things to do, including new dungeons to run, quests to complete, raid encounters to defeat, items to craft and otherwise acquire. Despite all of those substantially more "important" things, a new secondary profession was added, available to players who have purchased the expansion.
Arqueologia
lures players to spend the substantial amount of time grinding out digsites and completing artifacts with promises of odd, quirky and even downright amazing blue and epic quality items. Other secondary professions offer an expected, substantial benefit, such as the valuable food buffs obtained by
Culinária
and
Pesca
, and who doesn't love being able to bandage? But
Arqueologia
is a bit different.
Read on for Archaeology information, including lists of all of the rare artifacts, and my own personal impressions of the profession!

Dungeon Finder: Friend, Foe or Fail?
Recently, a player on the official forums brought forth a strong opinion regarding the use and abuse of the Dungeon Finder. I'll admit, I haven't been using the Dungeon Finder much lately to find groups as I've been solely doing Heroics with my guildmates or premade server groups. Apparently, though, many players are reporting cases of abuse of the system, ending up in groups which are ruled by seemingly tyrannical leaders / groups who call the shots in rude and unfair ways. That is, when they're actually playing. Players are also reporting groups where people will queue up as a majority or tank / healer role, then refuse to actually
play the game
. I'm sorry, but if you're going to sit there and go through the trouble of logging into the game and queueing up for a dungeon, why the hell
wouldn't
you play?
How should players deal with this? Is it our responsibility to have to deal with attempting to kick players (which won't always work), or are changes to the Dungeon Finder by Blizzard the answer? Do you think the problem is in the Dungeon Finder's lack of penalty for such players? Would a karma system
actually
work? Read on for a full look at the Dungeon Finder system and learn to

Character Transformation: Thrall, Then and Now
Blizzard has just posted the first in a series of blogs about the transformations key characters have undergone over the past few years, especially the most recent changes with the Cataclysm. This first blog looks at the orc hero Thrall, former Warchief of the Horde.
We will see more articles in the future about other key characters' transformations, including Garrosh, Anduin Wrynn, and Magni Bronzebeard and possibly others. Check out the full post about Thrall's amazing metamorphosis from noble war hero to shamanistic savior of our kind after the break!
