I'm guessing they invented this place name after the city of Norwich, Norfolk, England. I was surprised to google and find there's no real place called Surwich.
"Nor-" means "north" and "Sur-" means south, fitting with it being on the south coast.
Norwich is pronounced "Norritch" (or "Norridge") so I'd pronounce Surwich "Surritch" (or "Surridge").
