Drops off Heroic Thorim.

Ideal off-hand for enhancement shamans, as we are the only class that must have a slow weapon in the off-hand. If you take this, "the thunderous strength of the storm" over such a shaman, you will find yourself a lightning rod for the furious storm of shaman anger throughout Northrend.

Edit for clarity: This is not exclusively an enhancement shaman weapon. It does, however, fill a tight niche given that we can use only slow weapons in the off-hand, of which there are very few. A rogue, for example, has many alternatives in the main hand, including Calamity's Grasp from Naxx25 (a small downgrade from this mace). To avoid loot drama, I'd recommend talking to your raid leader about this - it represents a key upgrade to us.

How come noone has said anything about the name "Vulmir"? I'm pretty sure it's a reference to Krolmir (Thorim's old hammer), which is a reference to Mjöllnir, the hammer of the nordic god Thor.

If I were a raid leader, and I have been before, I would hold this to the Enhancement Shamans first, and the rogues or whoever else who wanted it second, because a slow offhand, indeed, is much more vital for the Enhancement Shaman.

any rogue who would take this would be pretty weak minded, simply because flame leviathan (hard mode) drops something thats much better and mace spec in general isnt the thing to go for.

You guys are kind of thinking 1 track style, maces have the higher DPS output of all specs in combat, why?

The 5% crit for fist/dagger is alright, but the 15% armor pen for a longer than 1 minute fight is superior, especially since the bosses in ulduar have a higher amount of armor..

@Uberkorl, i suspect you don't play a rogue, If the item your talking about is.. This , Then you don't understand rogues, the 5% crit (like i said above) is attractive but the 15% armor pen, is much more attractive... i WILL gladly take this over a shaman, The dps increase would be very good..

Ugh, so much fail. Do you even understand combat mechanics, or do you just pick stats to use based on what seems cool to you?

First off, what does combat duration have anything to do with the value of crit vs armor pen?

All raid bosses have 10645 armor, factor in the armor pen "cap" listed in this post, only 9093 armor is affected by ArP. This means that after Sunder you have 8827 armor, after FF you have 8402 armor

I'm not sure how much ArP a rogue would have in ulduar gear, but let's assume it's somewhere between 10% and 20% (246 rating, which seems high considering how rare ArP leather is)

With 20% armor pen from rating the boss is now down to 6733 armor
The damage reduction at this level of armor is 6733 / (6733 + 16635) = 28.81%
This means that an attack with a base damage of 1000 will hit for ~712 damage

If you factor in mace spec, the armor drops to 5723, giving a damage reduction of 25.60%
The same attack would now deal ~744 damage. This means that mace spec will increase your damage by about 4.49% for any attack that is affected by armor.

I did the calculations again with 10% armor pen, so a starting armor of 7568
DR w/o Mace = 31.27%
Damage w/o Mace = 687
DR w/ Mace = 27.88%
Damage w/ Mace = 721
So with less ArP on your gear, Mace spec gives you a 4.93% increased damage for attacks that are affected by armor.

So, Mace spec will increase your physical damage by 4.50-5.00% This will be all abilities except for poisons (and env if you all aren't using evic these days). On the flip side, CQC (fist spec) will give you 5% crit. With 30% crit that will net you about 3.85% increased damage to all abilities that can crit. This will be all the same abilities, but also include IP (or WP). I'm not really interested in looking up the typical breakdown of IP/WP vs DP vs Physical damage, but those two talents offer very similar net DPS benefits. As such This is quite a large upgrade over Vulmir.

One final thing which some people have pointed out. Combat rogues want a fast OH, the faster the better. CQC allows you to use a dagger in the OH to maximize combat potency, while mace spec will force you to use (slightly) slower OH weapons, and not generate as much energy, tipping the scales slightly more toward CQC over Mace Spec.

guys, why don't you just run the numbers yourselves?

For my gear set up (some Ulduar gear plus 4 set bonus on Val. T7.5), and ONLY switching from Calamity's Grasp and Webbed Death to Vulmir and Stonerender (and also switching the 5 talent points from CQC to Maces), my dps goes from 6615.8 to 6723.10 using the Rogue Spreadsheet from Elitist Jerks. If I then use the top swords (Remorse and Malice) and CQC (Golden Saronite Dragon and Bladetwister) from Ulduar my dps is 6700-6750. Therefore, there is not much between pve top weapons for rogues between swords/maces/CQC.

I have Stonerenderer in my bag (only person to bid on it). Vulmir dropped and I passed it for my guild's Shammie. However, if it drops again, I will bid and take it. Simple.

Bottom line: If you have Calamity's Grasp and Webbed Death then ANY new set for combat rogues from Ulduar is merely a slight step up, but a step up none-the-less.

Just picked up one of these on my DK, and since I was still using a $%^&ty 10 man naxx 2 hander my dps went up by going unholy DW. And before anyone !@#$%es at me there were no mace rogues or enh shamans in my raid, and I was the only one that even remotely wanted it (offspec). I really like it.

Apparently its you who doesn't understand combat mechanics sir, the person you responded to was spot on about how Arp vs raw Crit goes up and down in value depending on fight duration.

ArP being RARE? have you even gone into Ulduar, over 50% of the leather has ArP on it. And some people have alot more than 20%... I know you said just leather but here is leather + other items rogues will be rolling on to get more ArP.

News flash, we use Evis. Why? bc any smart rogue wants to keep his deadly ticks up on the boss due to the crappy but still in place 2 set bonus, the longer the fight the more energy we gain, more energy = more attacks, more attacks = more dmg, see what I did there? Why would we want to lower our dps by burning DP stacks and give away free energy, but again, you have no clue what your talking about

Id love to hear it as I use my 1.5 speed offhand mace, which there are more than 1 of. Mace spec has nothing whatsoever to do with speeds of the maces, its a flat armor ignore, the only thing you would lose by using a slow mace is CP procs and as ive already stated, this would be a MH weapon and you would OH any of the 1.5 speed dps maces. 2.6 / 1.5 = speeds seem to work just fine for mace spec.

And for those of you saying "O just take the Fist from Flame Levi 25m ? Well my guild is working on Yogg 25m but still havent done all 4 towers up, and that's what you have to do to get the mace to drop. Its not an easy task and 90% of the wow community wont have access to that Hardmode Fist. On the comment of "or get the Mimi 25m fist" well while that fist is good, its not as good as this, why? The fist max dmg tops out at I think 585? while the mace is 605. When our instant attacks are based off top end weapon dmg, you want the highest weapon dmg possible, so why would I want to sacrifice 20 top end dmg when I don't have to just to appease an ench shammy doing sub par dps.

Really? Odd bc i found https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=46097 , which could best 1h melle weapon in ulduar for rogues due to good white stats, a RED socket, and a higher max dmg than even the 25m mace....and its a mace..from 10m for that matter. People should really do research before just posting blanket statements that make them look lazy and uneducated.

Got to think this is "Thorim's Hammer", as Thor's hammer is called Mjölnir, a hammer whose leather band could stretch as far as the eye can reach, and can also be thrown as a projectile to hit the enemy with a thunderous hit.

I am curious how Mongoose and Berserking look on this weapon.

Though Berserking is the better enchant, Mongoose still makes me drool over the lovely lightning effects...seeing as lightning is kinda THE theme for Enhance.

As (admittedly not THE best :p) raid lead for a guild finishing up ulduar 25 (normal mode at least) AND as a rogue with bloodcrush cudgel sat in the bank waiting for a decent mainhand mace to go with it AND having something of a fetish for ArP i'd STILL make sure my mainspec enhancer shammies got this before either myself or any other rogue got their grubby paws on it.

There are around 5 good(ish) mainhand options for combat this weapon aside while enhancers have to deal with a very restricted loot table for their weapons upgrades. Show a little thought to those around you (and your guild/raid team as a whole) and pass to the guy who this best fits.

What with only 1 off-set item dropping from the keepers, Thorim never dropped this weapon for me. We've one shotted him for as long as I can remember.. and every time he drops something different than this. It's total bull.
