(Let me start off by saying that the completion of a user profile is completely optional, and one may make it as simple or complex as they wish. I do not claim that I have a good user profile, or that others don't have good user profiles. This is a guide, not a mandate, use it at your own leisure.)
After browsing through the Profiles of many different users in the Wowhead Community, I've found that many of the users either have not completed a profile, or they have a profile that is extremely simple and in this user's opinion, boring. So, I've decided to take the liberty of writing this guide to help the users of Wowhead spice up their Profiles.
===Formatting===Formatting is your friend. Not only will it make your Profile easier to read, it can also make it look nice. If you post everything into a single paragraph, details can become jumbled, words run together, and the wall of text will crit the reader's eyes for over 9000. To avoid this, something as simple as breaking your information into short, easy-to-read paragraphs is vital.
If you want to expand on your profile, and not limit it to simple information and descriptions, you may want to think about breaking it into sections. This can be done by using headers:
Header Exampleand line breaks:
___________________________or a combination:
_________Line Break and Header Combo Example_________In order to indicate a separate section.
This can be done by using the Bold and Underline format functions. In order to use these functions easily, highlight the words you wish to make bold or underline and click on the format buttons directly above the editing box.
If you feel so inclined to include more than just your average descriptions and wish to list some of the things that you like or dislike, instead of just putting the items in a paragraph format, where all the words are separated by commas, semicolons, or other forms of punctuation, try making an unordered list:
- Favorite thing 1
- Favorite thing 2
- Favorite thing 3
or an ordered list:
- Favorite thing 4
- Favorite thing 5
- Favorite thing 6
in order to make your list stand out. If you keep a list in a paragraph format, words tend to run together, it becomes hard to read, and you risk making it a wall of text.
This can be done by using the Unordered List and Ordered List format functions. In order to use these functions easily, highlight the words you wish to make into a list, separate them into lines, and click on the format buttons directly above the editing box.
If you wish to expand further on some of the things in your profile, you may want to link to other pages. Some people tend to do this by simply copying and pasting the direct url to the page, while writing a description of what the link contains next to the url link. This can make your profile look sloppy. Instead of using a simple url, try linking the page you want to link into the description.
Sloppy: Wowhead -

Now that formatting has been covered, let's delve into what you might like to include in your profile.

Don't be afraid to expand on what I've mentioned in the guide, because that is all this is, a guide. If you feel that it contradicts the way you like to keep your profile, feel free to discard what I've said. I hope this helps anyone looking to expand their User Profile.
